don't ever answer an 800 number on your cell phone...cellphone have gone public and if a telemarketer or sccam artist calls you, your information can be compromised and you are charged for the call!!! if you have an account with citizens they email you and confirm with you, or they mail you a letter confirming that you have gotten your card. NEVER GIVE YOUR INFORMATION unless YOU are calling the number on the back of your card...and people wonder how identities are stollen?!

    Skeptical Too
Also received call from this number. It was a legitimate call from Citizens Bank concerning a new debit card that was issued several months ago but not yet activated. Had the telephone displayed a legitimate Caller ID instead of the very common (and ILLEGAL) bogus ID, I would have been less reluctant to answer. Why do companies feel they have to hide their identities even when they have legitimate business with you? What a bunch of crap!

    Doubter
Got a call from this numebr at 22:40 on my cell. What call center, let alone bank, calls this late at night? I do have a Citizen's Account, but this is way too fishy for my taste.

    Double Doubter
I too just received that call...at 11 pm.  I hung up, checked my online balances..everything was fine but I still called the Citizens number that I use all the time.  The operator stated that they would never call this late, and she could find no record of that number in their system.  Sure sounds way fishy to me!

Previous posters are correct.  This is Citizens / Charter One bank calling to notify you that they sent you a debit card that has not been activated and that you need to activate it.  To the poster who said "my bank should send me a letter" - well, they did send you a letter with activation instructions.  They are calling because you did not respond to their letter.

Just remember that there is technology to "front" a number on caller id, so I call from my home but the number that shows up on your caller id is any number that I want (Citizens for example) - there is no way to know that this is the case. This technology is used by many scammers...So even if you call this number back (which I did) and get Citizens Bank (which I did) that doesn't mean anything, the call could have actually come from Nigeria.

Never give out information on a call that you did not initiate, simply call the financial institution back yourself and obviously don't use the same number!

It shows up on my caller ID as "800 Services." I didn't answer, and they didn't leave a message on my machine.

I read the info here and I too have a Citizens Bank account. That new debit card was issued months ago, and I've used it a few times (not often) since then. So it didn't need to be activated. I don't ever answer oddball toll-free numbers unless the leave a message anyway, but I don't even like the idea that they're calling.

I keep getting calls from this number. Called the number back and it is Citizen's Bank. No one in my family has an account with them, so I don't know why they keep calling.

Just because the phone was answered "Citizens' Bank" does not mean that is who you have reached. The fact that this thread exists for this phone number is proof enough that the number is not legitimate.

Any legitimate phone call, letter or email WILL identify you by name. They know who their customers are and will use your name.

They keep calling us! Should this be illegal? What if we're on a do not call list?
