This is a SCAM!  I was told I better hurry and call back before I get arrested.  The caller has a foreign accent. This is the 3rd call in 2 weeks.  He told me to call back at 347-344-5290 and also says "if you don't, all I can do is wish you good luck!"

Legit IRS public number for inquires.   I've called it numerous times.  People should be aware it's very easy to spoof called ID and make it appear an incoming call is coming from any phone number in the world, masking the scammers real phone number.  Most definitely don't answer this call or return the call to any crazy number they give you.  If everyone would stop being victims, the 2nd or 3rd world scammers would quit the phone games and go back to work at the Nike or Apple factory.

Got phone call at 10:55am on April 27, 2015. Person with an Indian/Pakistani type accent got out,  "This is officer" before I hung up. About three months ago I call a few calls from this scam group so I knew right away they were calling again. I have Verizon and they will block a number but only for 3 months. I will try to get Verizon to block again for another 3 months so I don;t get the darn calls.

This is a scam.  We have called the State Attorney's Office and reported it to the Do Not Call Registry.  The number that shows up when they call is (800) 829-1040 but they ask you to call back (703) 957-7694.

I got a call from this number 1-800-829-1040 saying that he is the IRS officer, his name is Christopher Francis, his badge #  0220815, ad # 9857, and  I will go to jail if... I did not understand his heavy Indian accent. Then he called me more and more from another # 703-957-7521. Now I know this is a SCAM, but this is really annoying.

So these numbers have called multiple times over the past week. Barely can speak English  - red flag #1 - all Asian accents
giving Irish or English names. They talk OVER you and make insults and threats. I threw it back at them... How unprofessional and ignorant they are. That the IRS would only and always contact with certified mail and professionalism. He began shouting at me well, what did YOU do? Because you OWE this money and they will be coming for you...
Now using Virginia area code: They tell you to call back to: (703) 457-8119, (703) 828-0814, (703) 957-7293
I think I'm going to cue a really annoying song and call them back and blare it every so often. If I have nothing better to do.
The scary part is the fact they can throw the IRS legitimate # on the ID... I told him I was calling the FBI the last call.
Daniel O'Brien in a strong Asian accent said, "We don't care."

Got a call from 1-800-829-1040.. Mr. Alan Dexter informed me of a lawsuit against me for under-payment of taxes in the years 2005-2009. Which is factually wrong, of course. An awfully heavy Middle-Eastern accent for a Gent named Alan Dexter, I must say.

He gave me a different number to call him back on.

I then hung up and called the IRS, they confirmed this is a scam, our tax account is in perfect order with no issues.

I'll be filing a report with the Tax Inspector General Tax Administration over the next few days. If this is US based, they may be able to catch them. If its not, there's probably little chance they'll be apprehended.

BOTTOM LINE: IRS confirmed that they will not make initial contact via phone and demand payment. Letters, a bill of taxes due, something will arrive via snail mail long before any calls are made.

This is, sadly, a part of our new electronic age of communication, it seems...

I literally just got off the phone with these people. They told me I am being held accountable for tax invasion and that I can resolve this matter by paying off my debt owed of 495. I asked they to fax me a letter and what exactly I owe for and they said if its not completed today they will send the "cops" to my door and have me arrested. I then again asked for proof and the man repeated himself so I asked to speak to a supervisor. The "supervisor" got on and began yelling and demanding that I pay the amount owed. I informed him that he was not being very professional and asked for him badge or ID # ( which changed 3 times) I just laughed and told him unless I receive some sort of statement I wasn't giving out any of my info. HE was very loud and angry. I then told him that I work for the police department so I guess they wont have a hard time finding me. The call was ended (by the "SUPERVISOR").

the scammer that I talked to called himself Bernard Zasney, badge number 40091 from criminal investigation.  His voice was heavily accented.  I thought he might have been Pakistani. This scam ring also used the police number given on the webste of the local police.  The woman that called claimed to be a Sargent with badge number 89625 and she was going to arrest me. I believe that was their final effort to scare me back in line.  We need to complain to our Federal Representatives about how easily it is to "high jack" telephone numbers.  This even happened to once when our bank sent us a letter asking us to call our bank.  When I did I got a list of promotionals that basically were big rip offs.  I contacted the bank on its web site.  They did send the letter but never offered any of these proms.

I just received a call from this number but did not answer. They did not leave a message. I looked the number up and saw it  was an IRS # but then I started reading all of the posts. Seems like I shouldnt call back? If it were the IRS wouldnt they leave a voicemail?

These guys are still at it. Number came up as 800-829-1040, no other info. After voicemail prompt, caller gave a few 'hellos' then hung up. I googled the number and read about the 'IRS' scam here. I know we have no outstanding business with IRS and this is not the way we'd be contacted if there were a problem. Shame on these people.
