- Annoyed ConsumerWe need to stop hanging up on these calls. Those entering false numbers are doing exactly the right thing. They pull this scam because there is an off chance they might get a few people who actually enter the right numbers. They disregard hangups or invalid entries (like 0000). They sift whats left, matching phone# to name, looking up address by name and area code, and then trying to verify the SSN the target entered. Which means the more FAKE answers we plug in, the more time they waste and eventually will decide its not worth it. Consistency is the key to looking like a valid account, so make up 4 numbers and enter it every time this number calls you. They wont see the backhand coming until they try to run your credit :)
- Barneyscam asking for access codes for AT&T phone numbers. DO NOT GIVE ANY INFORMATION.
Hang up and call them back if you want to. File a complaint with the FBI.- Call type: Prank
- Bill johnsonI got a call from this number 800 888 8804.
I didn't answer. No one left message. 2 minutes later I got another call from a different number but simular to the first. When I googled the first number I was directed to this website. - Gusty| 1 replyJust got a new cell phone from sprint & this number called my new cell same old number - asking for last 4 of social or they will disconnect service ! Nothing has happened to my accounts - gave bogus 4 digits then one of our 4 Ssn between 3 people digits thinking it was legit - it said ( thank you for using AT & T ) when upgraded with sprint ! My accounts have fraud protection . Nothing can be achieved with last 4 Social alone the bank states .
- Caller: AT&T
- lkI just got a call from this number on my cell phone. It was a recording saying there was a security breech on my AT&T account (I don't use AT&T) and to enter the last four digits of the account holder's social security number. I never provide that information unless I'm absolutely sure who I'm giving it to.
It's a scam!!!!
My husband received 2 calls from the same #, didn't answer either one. - Annoyed Consumer replies to GustyThey have more than the last 4 of your SSN. They have your phone number. From there it is fairly easy to get your name, cross reference your area code, and find your address. Or the more likely scenario, they have already gotten this information from other sources and profiled you, which is why the robocall targets you. Once they have all of this, they most certainly CAN use the last 4 to gain further info. This is a largely scripted scam. Their system only checks users who actually enter 4 numbers. When it does, if the 4 numbers come up invalid, they drop that account. If it DOES come up valid, they pretty much own your life. If you dont enter anything you will be called back until you do.
- Mike replies to RMJust got the call but I actually put my last 4 of my social fuuuuuuck! Anything to worry about? What could they use that for?
- JamesGot call this number asking for last four digits of SS # or my phone would be cut off. About two hours later my phone with ATT and internet with Verizon were both off. This lasted for about two hours before service to both returned.
- StaceyI get, on average, two calls a day on my cell phone from this number (despite being on the 'do not call' list) - usually about half an hour apart. I don't tend to answer calls when I don't know the caller. Even more so when the numbers themselves are suspect, so I don't answer these calls. Thanks to the information here, I never will answer it. And here's the kicker - my cell phone service isn't through AT&T
- BenStupid me enter my last 4 1st time and someone else 2nd time. Was sleeping
- Caller: Fake AT&T
- Call type: Prank
