These are a very busy lot of scammers. It must be a robo  dial system looking for active phone numbers to sell. If you even answer they have a number they can sell.

received a called asking me for ssn number.

The number that you called back is for a legitimate company that was closed when you called. Hence why no one answered.

got call from this number. didn't answer.

same call...all of us should say 1234 is the last 4 digits of our SS

got a call from a computer saying that my ATT service was in danger of being cut off and to put in the last four digit of my SSN.

Received this call a few minutes ago.  Did not answer it.  If I am not sure who is calling me I won't pick up.  From the other comments this was for an AT&T.  I don't have this carrier.....don't these people have anything else to do but bother people? Scammers!!!!

Same thing @ 10pm. I hung up and called back. It was Life Technologies.

I have received many phone calls from that same automated voice. Every phone call is from a different phone number.  Today, I received a phone call asking for the last four numbers of my social security.  I did not give out my social.  I decided to call back to see if the call goes through.  Interestingly enough the call did go through and it was life technologies (800) 888-8804. I assume they spoofed the number.  I reported it right away to the FTC. If enough people report this then maybe the FTC will investigate this further.

I got a call twice from this number I answered it the second time the recording said my AT&T cell was compromised and I needed to enter the last four of my soical.
The fun part I was in my sprint cell store where I have my service we had a good laugh !

I received a call from 800-888-8804 on my cellphone saying there was a problem with my account and to enter the last 4 nbers of my social security number!  I hung up.  The call was at 8:15 am pdt.

Just got the call from the same 888 number. I was stupid enough to enter the last 4 of my social security. Called AT&T afterward and was told it was a scammer. :-/

Received a call from 800-888-8804 (Like many others already stated) the automated message said my phone has a Security breach, and I need to enter last 4 digits of account holders SS#.  (yeah riiiight....of course I hung up)

anyone who gets a call from them hang up it is fraud trying to get into your cell phone accounts

i work for AT&T have this call all the time do not disclose your last four digits

Scammer called number back to find out. Just set up a pin through att.

Just received call from this number saying Please the last four digits of the primary account holders social security number to prevent service interruption through AT & T.  I  all ed the actual number back from my landlines to find d it was a chemical company.  They said they had been flooded with calls all morning and it's a scam call my service provider to have the number blocked.

Got a call on sep 6, 2014 from this number.  Missed the call but called back because they called me and my wife.  Claimed to be a science and tech company.

got a missed call, left no message.
got another call ~15 minutes later and answered that just said that there was a breach in security in my account and  asked for last four of my SS #,  i hung up.   Did not identify WHAT account?   phone? cc?, etc?
