- 800-955-7070Just got off the phone with this telephone number: 800-955-7070
This is an "off the book" number of Capital One credit. Incoming calls get routed to Capital One customer service. Outcoming from this number can come from anyone within the company or from any of it's branches and outsourced vendors.
Relevant History: I have an open and a closed credit card with Capital One. Neither is in errears - all payments made in time and great than the minimum. One is very close to being paid off (the closed one.)
These people call and then hang up - without leaving a message. Always during the day when I am at work. I finally got tired of it and answered today from work. A man without very poor English skills picked up a few moments after I did (auto-dialer). He did not know who I was and asked for my account information and zip code.
Of course, I declined - even after he asked me twice. He cited recently changed Federal regulation as the need to discuss my account. He didn't elaborate at all after I declined to give him my information!!
I cited security reasons and he assured me he understood. He provided me with this number, "800-955-7070" so I could be assured of his authenticity. It was his own number - the number he just called from!
I asked for whatever information he needed to communicate to me, come in a mailer - and hung up.
I called CAPITAL ONE customer service and they show no record of the call attempt or any reason why I should be contacted. They reiterated to me that NO ONE SHOULD EVER request your account information from Capital One this is a major security risk!
My advice is to NOT take this call.- Caller: Capital One
- DanielGot a call from this number yesterday and today. Both times they wanted to tell me about new federal regulations. Didn't let them say what they wanted to say and asked that they send me the info in writing. First caller said that there was nothing in writing. Caller today said that I will be receiving something in 7-10 business days. We will see what happens.
- Ray AlmtA good question would be is how can we get this to stop, it is so annoying and unlawful. Any ideas is welcomed, lets show those losers who got the power

- SCAMIF I were president organizations like this would be no more. I would have a special team of "SPECIAL OPS" that would go in and take down companies/businesses like these, arrest the owners, board members..etc. Freeze their accounts, take all of their computer office equip and give it to the needy. People that worked their would be subjected to a 9 week Marine style training program that would teach them some self respect and not to scam people. Any objections??
- NOT SCAMMEDI have been getting calls from this number 3-4 times a day. I do not answer it and looked online to see a lot of people said it was someone from CapitalOne. I called CapitalOne, they have not been trying to reach me and made a notation in my account that I have been receiving fradulant phone calls regarding my account.
I do have to blame CapitalOne a bit though, because I would they they had to have sold my contact information to someone who is now using it to try to scam me.
But sure to OPT OUT of allowing CapitalOne to provide information about you to anyone!!! - mikeCalled twice today, I never answer my phone if its important thats what voice mail is for and ill call back.
I looked it up here and seems kinda fishy. Called the number back and it asks for my account number right off the bat, hit # and it gives you options, I hit 1 to talk about my card and I got a guy that wanted my first and last name so I hung up. Ive had my card for 8 years now and capital one has never called me like this in the past. Its probably fake if its not fake and its important they will leave a message. If there are fradulent charges they want to notify you about you can always log on to online banking and look for yourself. If you owed them money they would just lock your card and call debt collectors. If they wanted to market you a new card they wouldnt ask for your info it would be mailed to you.
Trust me I know, like I said ive had the card for 8 years they mail me offers they dont call me. It even says on the website "be carefull giving out any info by email or phone" - Annoyed..This number calls me multiple times a day. It is on the capitolone site for general correspondance, however the message is recorded and is always cut off on my voicemail. I believe they are somehow creating the number to show up on caller ID but are not actually calling from Capitol One based on the previous comments.
- ANSWER it!If you want to know WHY Capital One is calling you, ANSWER THE PHONE! Could be a couple things. Either you're in collections, and they're trying to collect...they're calling to get you to activate your card...or it's a sales offer, and would not leave a message because you would have to answer to find out the offer details. If you don't feel comfortable, CALL CAPITAL ONE!
As far as 800-955-7070 being an "'off the book' number of Capital One"...stupidest BS haha. That's the number on the back of the credit cards! How is that an off the book number?!
Stop being so paranoid. - billy1997I have also been getting calls from this same 800 number for about 2 weeks now. It showed up on my caller id on my cell phone for the first time about 2 weeks ago, but a few more days went by before they called again. Now this past week it has been pretty much every day sometimes twice a day. They don't leave a message either. When I did a search for the number online, I came across this website. I know people have been saying that this 800-955-7070 is a legitimate Capital One number but something dawned on me as I was reading how some of the people that have reported to this site that this number is on the Capital One site and they have called it and have actually reached Capital One. But one thing I wanted to mention is that there is a way that when someone calls you from one number they can actually make any number appear on your caller ID that they want. This technique is called a "Spoof Card". You can google it. It's kinda like a phone card. First you call the Spoof Card access number, enter in the number you actually want to dial, then you enter in the number that you want to appear on that person's caller ID. So this could be a scam to where they have your number, using the spoof card, they call your number, enter in the toll free number that is actually Capital One's number so it will appear that they are calling from Capital One. So, it's a high possibility that this is what's going on when people are receiving calls from the Capital One 800 number. Just a thought.....

- KrisRecv'd call from 800-955-7070 on 11/02/09. Girl on the phone stated that there is a new federal bill that recently passed to be implemented come Feburary 2010 which will no longer allow credit cards to go over the limit. She stated that I currently have the ability to go over my limit and if I choose to keep it to please say "yes." This is supposedly of no charge to me but more of a benefit as it will lower my over the limit fees from $39 to $29 a month and I still have the ability to go over my credit limit in case of an emergency or whatever. FYI - THIS IS LEGIT PER CAPITAL ONE THEMSELVES. No upfront fee, no change in APR, $29 charge good for life, no credit limit decrease no BS. Do it before February 2010.

- SCAMGot a call from this number last night. The caller ID name said: NOT PROVIDED, and no message was left on vmail. The call came after the hours I specified as 'ok to call' in my online account.
This morning my account online indicates no messages, no past due amount, no recent charges, etc. In other words, no reason for them to call.
I agree with other commenters that this is a spoof call. When Cap One has called me in the past, my caller ID indicates their name. They also leave a message if it's a solicitation, or they call my alternate number if it is urgent. - LCThis is just a scam to get people to call back to enter their credit card numbers, because that is what they asked for when I called back to see who it was. THIS IS A SCAM!
- Caller: Scammers
- lauraCapital One called regarding new legislation effective 2/2010 and how it affects customers when they exceed their credit limits. They are offering to maintain our over-the-limit option on the account and reduce over the limit charges from $39 each occurrance to $29 per occurrance and only once per billing cycle.
- LauraJust wanted to say that there is a lot of speculation as to what these calls are for and it was all provided by those who did not answer the call when it came in. Of course they would want to look up your account when you call them back, as would any place where you do business.
Why is everyone so scared to answer the phone these days, anyway? - Laurahttp://articles.moneycentral.msn.com/Banking/ ... ns-for-you.aspx
Limits on over-limit fees:
Consumers must "opt in" to over-limit fees. Those who opt out will have their transactions rejected if they exceed their credit limits, thus avoiding over-limit fees. Fees charged for going over the limit must be reasonable.
So Capital One is calling to get you to opt in under the pretense that they are saving you money. If you do not opt-in, you will be declined if you charge over your account.
Just a little research for the naysayers. - StephenThis is the main Capital One Customer Service number.

- SallyReceived call from 800-955-7070. Caller ID himself as a Capital One Employee informing me of an increased credit limit and lower interest rate. Asked me to provide personal information < RED FLAG > - I didn't do it and told him I would verify my information he had on file. He said that's not how it works and to verify his honest intentions to please call 800-955-7070. He hung up. I called the number on the back of my CC. Customer Service indicates Capital One policy is NEVER TO CALL AND ASK FOR VERIFICATION INFORMATION FOR ANY REASON - All rate adjustments, credit line increases or decreases and any change of account is done automatically to the account and the customer is informed by mail.
