- TJA woman named jennifer called my sister who lives over 4000 MILES away at her work number...
The woman said that I listed my sister as family which she is but, I didn't list my sister's name on any application or form ever in my life... I FREAKING PISSED... The only reason I'm mad is that they bothered my sister. If they really wanted to contact me they could just google search my name and click on my Facebook. It's open privacy I don't hide anything on Facebook. Even my personal number is on there... It's easy to contact anyone. I should know, I'm a computer programmer who also tracks people for my county's police department. If they try and contact my sister or anyone else to get to me. I'll freaking find them.- Call type: Debt collector

calls my cell about 3 or 4 times a day... I don't know who it is so I don't answer. They never leave a voicemail. But they did call my brother (no idea how they got his number) telling him to have me return their call... Called the number and got an automated response saying "Mr 'xxxx' is on the other line and will be with you shortly"..
it's very annoying that they call so frequently. - matt| 5 repliesI just got a call from Williams and fudge about a debt for someone with my same name. I asked to verify my social and address and neither were correct. I then asked them where they got my number from since I am obviously a different person and I was told that they got it off of spokeo. Which means that that they are calling anyone they can find with my exact name hoping that they get lucky in locating the right person. I may be wrong but isn't it illegal for a collections business to just make random calls to some one who has the same name

- TEXAS| 6 replies803.326.1302 Angela (slightly different number but same losers)
She is a "debt collector." Do NOT confirm your social security number or date of birth to her over the phone. She does not work for any type of Federal or Government institution and has no authority whatsoever to coerce ANYone for any type of information. She works for some type of 3rd party debt collection agency.
She called, and when I would not answer her questions she began yelling and talking over me. As soon as she told me she was recording the conversation, I told her to stop yelling immediately and to change her tone of voice. She changed it ASAP. She is a nobody. She just acts like she's somebody. Just deal directly with the institution you should be dealing with and avoid these losers.- Caller: Williams & ???

- Collector replies to As a consumer| 2 repliesWe don not buy debt ... we do not give info on who we are calling about since it's illegal ... it's simple, get the message to the person we are trying to reach ... that's all we are trying to do.
- Collector replies to matt| 3 repliesNo, it's not illegal to call someone with the same name. At least you answered the phone to let the collector know you were not who he/she was looking for. Thank you for that!
- Collector replies to TEXAS| 4 repliesWe have to confirm who we are talking to .. would you prefer we speak to just anyone about your debt? Probably not .... it's for your own protection .. if you folks paid your bills, we wouldn't be calling
- Goge replies to Collector| 2 repliesHey there collector dude, since you claim to be a collector, you should know that it is illegal to contact anyone not listed on the credit application for the debt you are trying to collect. That means not using Spokeo to call people, and not leaving messages with neighbors (since they likely are not listed as people to whom you have permission to contact.)
So then, Mr. Collector, can you tell me why this number called me today trying to collect on a student loan when I don't have any in default? they gave me some crap story about the school having charged two months to my bill that the loan didn't pay. Well guess what? I left the school months before those charges were accrued to my name, and I am not responsible for them - Sallie Mae agrees with me, and I've proven it twice already, so why are you trying to collect a debt illegally?
Oh- I also got a call from this same number about a $2000 debt from the water company that is from 2005. Not only did I disconnect the water before I moved out, but I only had the water in my name for two months; the landlord was responsible or the rest of it as per my lease.
This is an illegal collection attempt. Not only is this debt well past its statute of limitations, but I never owed the money to begin with - and I proved it to the last collection agency that decided to illegally collect on this debt.
How do you explain the illegal tactics your company and so many others are using? Its unfortunate that there aren't other folks who are well educated in consumer law, then people like you would have to follow the rules. I've reported each of these calls and collection attempts, and my attorney general agrees they are illegal. Hope you rot in hell. - hp79These morons called me about some other person's uncollected debt, which had a similar name. If my name is John, they were linking Abjohn to me. I never attended PCC, they said I have $400 debt. Faggets.

- Barb replies to TEXASi keep a whistle by the phone, and the minute i know its not legit call, or they start being irate i just blow the whistle loud and long...they seem to have slowed down on the calls ...
- Baroness Machiavelli replies to SHELLY SFirst of all I would advise you or anyone else not to ever give information about yourself or anyone you know if you don't know who you are talking to and why!! Why would anyone do that??!! Also, if you don't recognize a phone number, do what I do, plain and simple, don't answer it. Also, if you have a smart cell phone....download Mr. Number to block such calls or suspected spam calls! There are other applications that do the same thing as well. If I don't answer, and you don't leave a message on my voice mail....you get blocked plain and simple!!
- Peter RodgersI got a call from this company today. They claim to have important business information and wanted me to verify all of my personal information. I told them I would not provide any information as I dont know who they are. They then said if I send information to your address at.... will you get it. I still would not give them my information.
- CantHoldMyTongue replies to CollectorWhat a full bucket of BS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have never missed a payment on any bill in 45 years and owe no one a penny - YET - you *&(%^%$ (*)&^(*&)^ call me about 100 times per year!!!!
I live alone and only I have used my phone number for the last 20 years! Calling me is a waste of time when you are looking for someone who is not living here and in most cases I have never heard of!
The fact that you and your industry enter 100% bogus information in peoples files and then call IS YOUR PROBLEM!!!!!! Fix those issues and maybe we wouldn't be calling you every name you deserve!
Also - many in your "business" are worthless criminals so don't claim we are deadbeats! My daughter paid a bill (late) one time and for 3 years had "debt collectors" try to collect the EXACT same debt over and over! She had to threaten to have charges filed against them for attempted fraud and file million dollar lawsuits against them to finally put a stop to it! But each time she also had to provide all the "required" information to prove that the debt was already paid and not owed. That took her hours of time and a lot of postage for each of the fraudulent attempts to collect a bogus debt.
So who is the real scum ... - nancy replies to CollectorSo, what if I have a phone number that was the person that you are looking for? I mentioned this several times and keep getting calls. I have no earthly idea who the person is that you are looking for, and I don't care that this person is not paying their bills. That's between you and them. And the person who calls me, shares all their information with me. Maybe I'll record the conversation next time.
- souc (sick of unwanted calls) replies to Dodi143| 1 replythank you doty. i and my husband have no outstanding loans we know who we have debts with and none are outstanding. what we do have though is a very common last name and we are getting call from people like this. they say is sam _____ there we say no then they say is jack _____ there and then we say no and they ask for a few more people with our last name and we will say no there is no one here with that name then they ask well what is your name ? and we say thats none of your business and then they get rude..... look just becuse we have the same name as these low lifes that dont pay their bills does not mean that they have the right to bug us. i am about to get rid of my phone. my cell phone, and my computer. i travel alot maybe i sould pay these bozos a vistis and give them a peice of my mind .. you know what really pisses me off is we have perfect credit we pay all our bills. and we have to put up with this crap hey fcc and (do not call list) do you job and stop this.
- a debt collector replies to Martin| 2 repliesWhen people answer and immediately hang up, we assume you are hiding and indeed the person we are trying to reach. This company is not a scam at all, they represent colleges, so at least stay on the ohone so we can ask a question or 2.
