big brother kept calling me from this number, got to where i was getting calls every day on my cell phone.  i filed a complaint with the no call registry, and utilized Verizon's blocking service to keep them from calling me.

Received a call from 812 218 3144.Claims to be Us Dept of Commerce Census Bureau and wanted to know if I received the questionare in the mail and that it was manditory that it be answered. I told them that party wasn't home and they said any one at home could answer the questions for them. I told them no. They left the number and a reference case # to call them back. I DON"T THINK SO!  This is a scam and they are just phishing for private info. Do not give these people ANY INFO!

OK, Here is the Scoop.  This is a legitimate organization that is part of the US Census bureau.  I called the US Census number in Jeffersonville, IN:   1-800-523-3205 and they transferred me to the correct department.  You can get this number from the US Census Bureau web page:  http://www.census.gov/npc/contactus.html   I'm pretty sure that it is not mandatory.  They are doing a survey primarily of teachers who took college courses/seminars sponsored by the National Science Foundation.   I took several of these courses back in the 70's - 80's and they were great so I figured the least I could do was to give them some feedback [ 35 years later  :-)  ].  I completed the phone survey (about 15 mins) rather than fill out the survey sent to me months ago.  The woman who fielded the call was very friendly and professional.

Received call from "Census Bureau" waning to know if this was my land line home number. Its a scam there is a Bureau Census, in new albany , IN..they are phishing for info , don't give it report them to police as I am going to do.

They have called and left several messages.  They said they were the US Census.  I can't imagine the US Census calling.  So, I assume it is some scam or other.  I don't answer any those calls.

Received a call from this number that stated it was the Census Bureau and to call back and left a reference number.  I used my cell to call back.  Got a lady and when I gave the reference number she put me on hold and asked if I was calling in reference to my home phone number.  I said yes.  She again put me on hold and then my home phone started ringing.  I hung up and did not answer the home phone.  They left no message this time.

I've gotten at least 40 phone calls the last few weeks from the census bureau claiming their legitimate. I refuse to give them any info but how do I get them to quit calling?

I have been receiving calls from 812-218-3144, when I attempt to call back the call does not go through, the other # provided 1-866-564-5432 also does not go through.

There is something "fishy" here. They call at odd times, usually about 7-8 pm, the US Gov't offices are not open at those times. An official inquiry would come via US Mail and look official. I smell something wrong here.

They also refer to a case #. The caller speaks VERY fast, almost nervously, it's difficult to understand what "she" is saying.

I am a retired federal employee and the gov't DOES not operate this way.

BE CAREFUL, what info you provide I think it's a scam.

Also, we just went through the 10 year census when a person with proper identification came to our home and went through a questionairre that was not invasive.

I would be willing to bet this is a scam to get personal information.  The reason I think this is that I received the phone call and voicemail message at work.  There is no reason I can think of that the U.S. Government would be calling my office number which is one of 80 numbers here.  It is most likely a scam that started when the real census questionnaires started going out.  They are most likely trying to piggyback on that to get private information.  Even sadder thing is that I am sure it's worked!

If you are unlucky you are one of 3 million selected addresses to participate in a more detailed survey by the US Goverment that happens every year. We never received any paperwork only the annoying calls.

i received a call today in the morning the lady said she was from the census she asked me what i did yesterday from 4 a.m. till 4.a.m. this morning she also asked me what did i do yesterday she asked me what time did you get up? Where did i go eat? How long did it take me to get to the restaurant? How did i get there..

I have received calls from the same #, answered only once, told the lady to send me any more needed info through the mail.  They just keep on calling, how do I make it stop?

Can't find the phone number on any website, and I don't understand why they are asking many of the same questions I already answered on the survey.  They can't be checking to see if I mailed it back, they already know since they are verifying the info I gave them

The US Census is the best example going of how badly our Government has gotten out of hand .  The American Community Survey is the most un-American appalling attack on the privacy and civil liberties of our citizens that has ever occurred.  The US Census Bureau has unlimited resources.... all paid for by your tax dollars.... to harass you by phone, and in person at your door, and by questioning your neighbors to gather information that our forefathers who founded this country would never have allowed.  And your government has given itself the right to fine you and ruin your life if you do not obey their demands for your most basic, private, personal information that WILL eventually be used against you.   This is the type of thing that eventually leads to revolution.  We are no longer represented or supported or protected by our supposed "representatives" in Washington who have determined that they are now our ruling class and who have decided that we all should be cataloged and subjected to their demands and affronts on our personal freedom.  When the revolution comes I know what side I will be on. Do not give up your guns.....when they eventually come to demand them, hide them.... your freedom and the future of your family depends upon it.   God bless America, and God Damn our current un-American government.  The time is coming to rise up and take back our country. Be ready, be willing, and be able to defend yourself and your family!  You WILL have to make a decision in your lifetime.  Will you be a patriot, or will you be a good Nazi and go along with the demands of your oppressors in hopes they will leave you alone and focus on the Jew, the Black, the Muslim, or whatever group they decide to target first?

This is clearly a scam. They are fishing for information. The real federal census is done once a decade, with 2010 being the last one.

My question is ~ who can we call to stop this and other unwanted calls??? My number is on the National Do Not Call Registry, but it seems I'm getting more phone calls than ever. Why should we be harrassed at home by unwanted calls?

This is ridiculous, & the phone companies should help its customers.

I filled out the DO NOT Call Registery yesterday. Now I got this. Similar to others. I think the registery has a contact for scammers.

I hope the US Govement is looking into this Census Bureru Phone Number 812-218-3144           If  I don't get a replie I will send this to the FBI, ATF and others sone.

I received multiple calls in the past 3 months from 812-218-3144 stating they were with the U.S. Census Bureau.

This is the kind of 'Horse [***]" that makes some of us true Americans close up like clam-shells and not get involved. When we do get involved - their will be hell to pay!

I keep getting calls from this number 812-218-3144 which I do not answer and they never leave a message. Have recieved calls from other numbers as well which i do not answer and they left a message stating to call a toll free number and a reference number they also state they are the census bureau. I did not return the call. As far as I know the census bureau does not call you.
