They can call repeatedly until they speak to you and after they speak to you, they cannot call back that day.

This phone number has called my phone 3-4 times per day, every day for the past month.
I'm annoyed with these calls. When I answer, there is no one on the other end.
    What can I do?

Why on earth are you posting about a single call / wrong number, as this appears to be if they're asking for someone who doesn't live there!?! That's not what these listings are for. If they keep harassing you and won't stop, then bother posting. Otherwise nobody cares, and it's within the margin of error for everyday debt collection.

Be careful because he's Indian and keeps calling? Really? Truth is you have no idea if it's a scam or not. People assume everything is a scam these days because you're idiots. Fact is many companies employ phone jockies overseas for all types of things, including debt collection. This could very well be legit, and simply be a bunch of people who can't pronounce names properly that you don't understand. Your xenophobia is showing.

The problem is many legit companies have their name and number used by scammers, which means you don't in fact know if it's the real company calling or not. Best thing to do is always require a Validation of Debt. Have them send that to the address they have on file for you, and ask them to cease and desist phone communications as this should be handled by mail. You might need to send them a registered letter with the Vaidation of Debt and Cease and Desist letters (templates & boilerplates available online). If they're legit, they should follow through. And if it's legit, work out a payment plan, paying with money orders or one time use credit card numbers that some companies offer, but never your primary bank account number, credit or debit cards as companies are known to take more than their share.

And don't give out any information whatsoever until you've validated who THEY are - you do not validate yourself to them beforehand. Hence the US Mail. Don't give them your address, require them to use the address on file.

And for god sakes, don't claim something is "100% a scam!" unless you actually have verifiable information that it is! If you follow these standards, nobody should be getting scammed by fake debt collectors, lotteries, or anyone else calling. While this is the modern age conman / conwoman, there's no excuse for people falling for it. As always, handle important matters via mail.

Are you for real Dayana?? Surely nobody is that dumb. Medical billls usually DON'T come directly from the doctor's office or hospital directly (and never from the doctor or practitioner personally), as there is a wide variety of third-party services employed for things like blood work, pathology, x-rays, etc and any of those companies often use third-party billing companies to process Accounts Receivable. Furthermore, once that debt has aged to a certain degree and remains unpaid, they WILL contract out to a third-party debt collector who is either working on a commission or has bought the debt, in which case you CANNOT pay the original service provider as they no longer own that debt.

If a debt collector calls you, it is your responsibility to verify that debt and pay it if it's legit (using the steps listed in my previous post).

Playing by your rules will do nothing but earn you horrible credit and the occasional garnishment. Don't offer advice on subjects you know nothing about, you'll only get people in trouble!!

I have calls once in the morning and at 9:30 every night. Blocked the number. Now they just called with a new number. Who are they? How do they stop the calls? What do they want?

If you're not going to read any part of this thread and simply block-ignore, I don't see why anyone else should do all of your homework for you.

Do not confuse the office policy of your employers with what the FDCPA says. Nothing like that "one daily conversation" is part of the statute. There have been many cases in which unanswered calls are still considered "communication" however indirect, because the call purpose is implied by other markers like Caller ID and call patterns. Therefore debt collectors enjoy no unchecked ability to "call repeatedly" and without limit simply because of nonresponse.

If you'd done more than a cursory glance, it would be obvious that I was rebutting a "John" and his very faulty reading of the FDCPA and his claim of a per-violation $1500 damage award. I am well aware of the difference between statutory and actual damages and how much this Act allows. I don't believe anyone could know what "STATUS's" are or how one may "aware" awards. This particular Doofus has studied both English composition and the law and has been paid several thousand dollars by lawbreaking collectors with no help from cowardly attorneys. But sure, let's go on thinking that anyone who insists upon due diligence must be a shill for "the enemy", since jerking knees is more fun and less work.

This is absolutely not a medical bill collection service. They are phishing to get your personal info and will open accounts in your name.

The fact that a computer is calling you and it has to switch over to an available operator tells you it is not legitimate. A legitimate debt collector would have your information before them and be calling you specifically.

The people commenting that these specific calls are legitimate are just sleazy third party debt collectors or their attorneys. The selling of debts should be made illegal, and then banks and other companies would stop lending to people who cant afford to be borrowing.

This process exists so people can spend beyond their means, making banks and companies that sell non-necessities money that they couldn't receive if people spend within their means.

And people who don't want to speak with foreigners about domestic debt and those who are suspicious because of the accent are not xenophobic, they are being reasonable and wise. A person outside this country cannot be reached by our law enforcement and that's specifically why they're being used.

They call me constantly.  They are even calling me now from my local area code number.  (281-949-7414) they use different numbers now to see if I will pick up the phone.  They will call me all day long from different numbers.  This is really getting out of control.  I looked up what to do and sending them a certified letter - return receipt requested and telling them to stop calling me.  Doesn't stop them from filing a lawsuit if I owe them money - but at least I won't get calls (not sure that is better)....:-(
