sms txt message from this company..googled it & found people are being harrassed by an american company..how do they get your number when your x directory.

08456021111 is the number of BT's SMS text-to-voice message service. Generally, it has the prefix "0" omitted on caller ID and therefore is displyed as 8456021111.

It is not a scam. It is not a stalker. It is not Al Qaeda giving a 5 minute warning! It is not an automated sales message service, nor an automated information service. It is a telephone service provided to all telephony service providers by BT and is only activated through input by a third party (i.e. the leaving of a SMS text message).

It works by someone sending a SMS message (text message) via a SMS capable device (i.e. mobile phone) to a non-compatible device (i.e. a standard house telephone). The digital text data is translated into a voice message, the system then dials the number that the original SMS was directed to and informs you that you have a text message from BT's SMS Text Store. The service will ALWAYS tell you the number that left the message, so it is always advisable to note the number down. You then can listen to the message, then delete or store.

As previously mentioned in an earlier post, you only get these messages/calls after 8am as all phone lines have a curfew (unless you change it). So, any txt msg sent to a landline between 11pm and 8am will not be received, but will send you a notification after 8am.

To change your curfew times, call the SMS Voice Store automated options system 0800 587 52 52. You can also bar all text-to-speech messages on this number too, by choosing option 1 to change the curfew settings, then choose option 5 to turn off the service.

The system is not abusive - the people texting to your numbers are. There is no control over who texts what to your number if they have it. If a sales company gets hold of your number, there is nothing to stop them SMS messaging you and you getting a call from this service number.

It is a users responsibility to either keep the service on, or barring the service so they receive no more calls from this number. And if the service is kept turned on, don't come complaining about the calls you get!!

Please do not confuse the (0)8456021111 BT service number with the 845-602-1111 number. This IS a US (New York) landline number, but will ALWAYS be shown on caller ID as an international call (will always show INTERNATIONAL or show international dialling prefixes on screen).

received a call at 4-30 in the morning, not amused. have had these calls before, just the one word "****hole", which adequately describes the moron that sent it.

Hi all I just had another call it is a debt collection service they appear to have unorthodox methods and cannot confirm if they are legit, The person they wanted doesn't live here so I don't know why they are ringing my number

THE MESSAGE LEFT FROM THIS MESSAGING SERVICE WAS A REMINDER FOR A DENTAL APPOINTMENT. IT APPEARS IT IS THE NHS THAT USES THIS COMPANY AS THE SAME NUMBER CALLS TO REMIND OF HOSPITAL APPOINTMENTS AS WELL.

This number has called about seven times today, I live on my own so vet all calls via ans m/c. They never leave one so I don't answer.

If you are so fed up with people leaving you a text message turn it off using the instructions from BT's website

How do I enable/disable the Voice Text feature with BT Text?
If you don't want to receive Voice Texts type *1# and send to 00000. If you want to be able to receive Voice Texts type #1# and send to 00000.

you can turn the tex messages off,you need to dail the freephone number,it then gets turned off within 20 mins.They will then try another way to contact you,even if you are ex directory.

I have had 23 calls from this number in 2 days start at 8.30am and continue till 12.30am. This is ridiculous what is it? haven't answered it incase it's a dodgy number!
Is it worth answering or is it going to put a small fortune on my phone bill?

Yes it is just an SMS service, but as sarcastic as your message is towards the recipients, this service is open to misuse and I like many others get plagued my unscrupulous companies. If I turn if off then I cannot retrieve messages from companies I am awating deliveries etc from - or one of my children. Why the hell should we have to put up with constant calls from the same moronic slime bags companies many times a day.

There should be an option to ban certain numbers from usisng this service!!!!!!

What it is about some of you people?  We know what the service is and use it for things like home deliveries. Unfortunately it is open to misuse and we DO receive unwanted sales calls and other morons constantly using this service.

Please try not to make out you are better than everyone else on here. So high and mighty - people are worried, there are many scams and as far as I am aware scam artists are NOT banned from using this service.

had 20 calls from these idiots in one day at all hours every 30 mins took the phone of the hook when i did listen it was just a load of rubbish who are they? and why are they allowed to pester people late at night? is there an  identity for the people behind the message del.service
