To clear up a few more points,
we do not buy debts from BMG, Columbia House Book of the Month etc
they send us files to collect on. If you "just got this phone number"
respond so we can fix the problem. I work out of Cambridge Ontario, Canada
no calls that I am aware of come out of the USA. If we are calling your number
is because somewhere down the line someone gave us that number either as a reference or the lied on an application. (Yes people do that)
Again if it is really not you we will take you off the lists.
To answer though a collection agency cannot be placed on the do not call
list. You can though send by registered mail a cease and desist letter to
stop calling but again that only applies if you owe a debt and you do not want to pay.

Relax, everybody. By the time someone disappears without paying their bills, they've no doubt changed everything: telephone numbers, addresses, and maybe even their names. The last known point of reference is all that's left to the poor folks who're trying to collect what is owed them. Unfortunately, telephone numbers carry cooties from their former owners. It's easier to just deal with it as a legitimate cost of owning a phone.

I knew I didn't owe anyone anything, so it didn't bother me to put it to rest by calling the collection agency and getting my number purged from further call cycles. More importantly, I found out it was a real person who screwed up and that it wasn't a clone of me. Had someone been using my identity, this would have been a good first notice, so I could take steps to repair the damage. If you continue to refuse taking the calls, and it is your debt, or worse, the debt of someone who stole your ID, you're just making it more difficult to resolve the problem.

I returned the call from my cell phone to the agency. The guy was pleasant and professional. I asked why he'd called me and he said he needed the telephone number I was contacted on. I told him I was talking to him on the cell phone they had called, and he got the number from caller ID. Then he said he was looking for some Mexican dude. I laughed out loud. That Mexican dude had been assigned my cell number before I got it, and all his friends had been calling for a couple of years. Most only spoke Spanish, so that was amusing. When one of the missed-call numbers kept showing up, I did a google on that number and came up with a website connected with the number. I checked the website, which turned out to be a hybrid of sorts ... it had alternating porn and cars for sale. It took cheesecake to a whole new level! It, too, was all in Spanish, so no help there. Anyway, when I finished laughing about my Mexican predecessor, I explained that I thought I'd finally gotten rid of that sombrero shadow when the phone calls from Mexico stopped. We both had a good laugh, and he said he'd remove my phone number from the collection files. Case closed ... for me anyway. Jose still has the dogs after him.

Takhar Group called my house last night at 10pm (866-408-8299). Recording that threatened action if the call was not returned. Called this morning and Takhar Group answered (Pat?). Calling for my mother (obviously a medical collection). My mother passed in Sept 08 (it is April 09). Person answering was efficient and removed my phone number from their call lists.

Regardless, I don't like their methods. I get it that people have to collect monies owed them, but all I can ever hope is they get stuck in the tread of the Karmic wheel and have [***] calling them at all hours of the night to see if they can grasp a few sheckles from the pile of nothingness left by your cancer-addled mother.

I had this call come threw to me last night and was freaking out because I have great credit and could not imagine what it would be from.  I called them this morning got a very poilte lady she asked for my phone number, looked it up and gave me the name she was looking for.  The person does not live at my residence and I dont have a clue who he is and as soon as I told her this she said she was sorry for the innconvience and said she would update the file.  Overall I suggest calling just so you have peace of mind.

I GOT A CALL FROM THE NUMBER 866-408-8299 SAYING IT WAS URGENT THAT I CALL I CALLED RIGHT BACK AND A MESSAGE SAID THEY WERE CLOSED PUSH POUND TO LEAVE A CALL BACK NUMBER ALSO I COULD NOT MAKE THE NAME TAX COMPANY OR TARGGETT I DON'T KNOW THEY ALSO STATED ACTIONS WOULD BE MADE AGAINST ME .I DON'T KNOW WHO THIS IS .

I just got a call from this phone number, i thought i was in trouble. i couldnt find any information on the name given  (sounds like Christine Himmens) or the company name (sounds like Tech Yard group or Taggard group) Thanks to this site i am not going to bother to call them back

Returned their call, told me the # they called was not even in their database!?  Anyways, person on the line was polite enough...we'll see if I get any more calls!

I got a call on my cell phone from 1-866-408-8299 ... from what I see on this website, I won't try to call them back.

This call is from a Collection Agency.  For me is was for a losy $22.95 from Columia House Records.  I called them (the 1-866-408=8299) the collection agency and I am sending them a money order to resolve my issue, but I do not realy want to.  I really don't think that I owe Columbia House any money but the $22.95 is going to go on my credit report.  How silly is this!!!!  Well good luck to everyone with this company and I hope that this will help you.

They only let you hear the back part of the message.... "call or a ruling will go against you"...

I've reached my boiling point with this number calling, so I decided since they are calling a pre-paid number, I started calling them non stop from a private line, after all they pay per completed call with 800 numbers, maybe if they start paying more than they are dolling out, they will leave us alone!

My husband finally called this number and he asked the name of the person they were trying to reach and they gave us a name.  My husband said, there is no such person at this number and we recently just got this phone number.  So, I did some research on the person they were looking for on MO Case.net and her number is posted and address. So, I thought I would be helpful and called them back to provide them with this info.  
When they answered the phone they ask, "did you receive a call from us?"  I said yes and you have the wrong number, and the man said, "your number has been removed from our system".  I then tried to be helpful and provide him with the info and he sternly said, "thank you for the information".  Sternfull and rudely.  If it is so urgent that they contact this person, you would think anyone providing info would be greatly appreciated.  I told him just how rude he was and hung up.  I was still fuming about this, so I called him back and again he was so rude, when I asked for a supervisor.  I was told there was no supervisor available.  So, I again told the man how rude he was and I would be contacting the attorney generals office.  After hanging up that time, I just might report this as well to the BBB and Contact 2 News.

person calling for robert alberson. told them wrong number. hung up. have reported this numerous times to our phone company. they have it on record as a horasment call. now i don't answer ehwn i see this number come up on my caller id. hmmmmm. veery agrivating and rude.

I got a call from this number as well today. I called back and a recording asked me to leave a number. From now on, I will not call or answer this number.

Received a call from these people they weren't rude they are a collection agency said that a book company from a long time ago had said that I owe them some money and that I can use a credit card they are safe (so they say)So what I did was called the book company myself and I hope they verify but maybe I can pay them instead

I've had calls since last December from the Takhar Group. They've called from several different numbers (mostly from NY State 518 area code), and this one.

First, I'm CERTAIN that I have no outstanding debts (other a loan that I pay every month).

Second, IF they was a debt from many years ago, the company I "owed" wrote if off as "uncollectable" and took the tax deduction LONG AGO.

Any phone calls from this Takhar Group should be considered telephone FRAUD, and probable PHISHING attempts to collect personal information. (toward the goal of identity theft)

I've warned them to STOP calling me, but they just ease off for a while and back from a different number. I've contacted the New York State attorney general. Those people need to be SHUT DOWN!

Like those before me this number left a very stern message, but when called they were very polite, and said they were looking for a name I've never heard before. They also said they'd remove my number from the system. I think they're not so much a phishing company as a collection company working some VERY old data in a vain attempt to collect some VERY old money. But if you call them back, problem solved, so just give them a call and clear it up.

I got two message from this number identified as Takhar Group and asked me to call bacck immediately or they're going to put me on file or something. The message was not clear, and I suspected it's a scam so I googled it first. But after reading some comments here, I called back and told them I just got this cell # a month ago, and have no idea about the person's name that they're looking for. So they said they'll take the number off their list. These days, just have to be careful for any call back, I heard some people get charged very expensively just by calling back some 800 number. Beware!
