Phone call for : My Ex Boyfriend
From: Nicole Harrington, Takar Group
She asked for a specific person and gave the full name. She was "live" and therefore, I was able to communicate with her. I told her that I had never heard of the person she was referring to and asked how she had gotten my phone number. Her reply, "I'll take this number out of our system". Then she hung up. I must admit, I was surprised at how easily she gave up.
I did a bit of research on the Takar Group and found out that they have been calling people at least since 2007 and that they are a scam company. They try to pry sensitive personal information, such as credit card numbers, birthdays and social security numbers out of the people they are calling. Please do not be duped. You will find that your identity will have been stolen.- Caller: The Takar Group
- AndreaGot a recorded message from them when I didn't answer - sounded like Tacker group and they were very stearn about having a decision on file or something like that if I didn't call back IMMEDIATELY.
I do not owe money to anyone, so it seems to be a scam, esp after reading all of this!
I'm not calling back. - KerrieI got a threatening message from this number. I don't owe anyone any money so I think they may be trying to reach the deadbeat person who had this number before me. If they are not, then this is a scam.
Folks, you don't need to call these people back. If they have old information about your phone number then that's their problem, not yours. From what I can tell, the only information they have is the phone number -- not your name, your address or anything else about you, so it seems doubtful they can ruin your credit. That idea is probably something these slimeballs falsely claim and promote.
Also, those of you who are reporting that you "forgot you owed a bill," think twice about that. This sounds like a scam to me -- they initially scare you with the threatening, "urgent matter" baloney and then become "nice," when you call back, somehow convincing you that you owe somebody some money somewhere, and then say "We can resolve this if you give us your cedit card numner." Come on people! Don't goive these pigs your credit card numer -- ever! Ask for a bill, and if they won't do that, then you you can be pretty sure this is a scam.
Sadly, my cell company -- I-Wireless -- Yes that's I-WIRELESS (In Iowa) said they could do NOTHING about this when I called to report it, not even block the number. Thanks a pantload I-WIRELESS.
Finally, I noticed that I got this call shortly after leaving my cell number on Criagslist. I think that these calls are from people who mine these sites for cell phone numbers for fresh people to scam. If you get a call like this, do nothing, I say.
omehow convinve you that you owe money you didn't think you owe. They place doubt in your mind, tell you you owe something, and you begin to believe it.
it seems suspicous to me
I figure that if they have old information then that's their problem so I don't plan to call back. - RebekahI received a call from this number and THANK YOU the number is from Takhar Group. I called the number on their website 888-246-3871 to have my phone removed from their auto-call system. The woman that had my cell number before me gets lots of calls from collection companies and since I've had the number, I've had to deal with it.

- AlirezaI was called from the same number, I didn't pick up the phone, so it left a message asking me to call them back. The message was started before my cell phone's greeting message finish! I didn't call them back, since it seems to be scam.
- TinaI was a little apprehensive at first but I called them back today and kept getting a message. I blocked my number and somehow got a live person. Anyway, the representative was very nice and cordial, asked for my phone number and BINGO, she called out my name. Columbia House reported me to them for a $28.94 bill that I thought I paid off 3 years ago. It's such a small amount and not worth risking ruining the credit that I'm rebuilding, so I paid it and there was a $5 processing fee...no biggie. She gave me the original account number from Columbia House as well as a confirmation number for my records. It's all legitimate, at least in my case. I remember the bill, just thought it was paid and taken care of. I suggest calling back because she did reassure me that they report to credit bureaus so it's not worth it to ignore them. Just my two cents!
- TinaI'd also like to add that I was never once asked for my social security number or any other identifying information other than my debit card number, which can easily be cancelled if there is an issue, though I don't believe there will be. My payment has been processed and I called the number that was listed and they are indeed affiliated with Takhar, as well as other collection agencies for whom they process payments. I called back again to verify that my account was closed and before I could even ask, I was asked very nicely why I was calling back because they could see that I called earlier in the day and made a payment to close my account. I've also received confirmation from CH that I was indeed turned over to this collection agency. In this day and age it is more than understandable why we'd be apprehensive and suspicious, but this is very legit.
- TinaOkay, I think this is my last comment. :-) For those of you thinking that it won't show up on your credit report just because you didn't supply your SSN when you signed up, THINK AGAIN! I'm in DC and unpaid camera tickets are most certainly on my dad's credit report from the DC Government for a measly $100. Gone are the days where only those accounts that involve your SSN are put on your credit report. This is a new day and age and people, present company included, have gotten over for far too long by not paying little companies like CH, BMG, magazine subscriptions, etc. because we knew it wouldn't affect our credit reports because they didn't have our SSNs and these weren't serious accounts like mortgages, car loans, student loans, etc. I don't know what law was passed, if any, or if it's even legal, but little accounts like that are now showing up on credit reports so please do not think it will go away or not affect you. At least call them back and fight it if it's something you once owed and paid in the past. I would not ignore it, just like my dad is wishing he had not ignored the notices from the DC government collection agency PAM (prof acct mgmt).
- ballbraekeri am going to put there no# on creaglist see how thay like it when a ton of perverts start calling them you should all do the same

- SandiReceive multiple calls from this number on my cell phone every day. I actually got a live person when I answered once, and it was at work. They were told not to call. 3 hours later...another call. No message is left. When I returned the call, I got an answering machine with no company identification. I left a message that said that the harrassing phone calls needed to stop immediately OR they needed to leave a message identifying the company, what it was in reference to, a contact number for a live human being and a file number. I told them if they called again without that information, I would trace it and contact an attorney. I work in a call center and cannot be receiving phone calls all day long.

- SamChecked takhar group out on the better business bureau website - they have an F rating. Request written verification if they are trying to collect a debt. If they are calling for someone you don't know, tell them. If calls persist, that would probably be harrassment. The BBB has quite a bit of info on consumer rights in relation to debt collection.
- KJI sent Tkhar Group a cease and desist letter and I received the signed receipt back and I stil got a call from them tonight at 8"04 PM Pacific time on July 22.They are now in violation of a cease and desist lettera swel as the fact that making a harrssing phone call i Nevada is a felon under Nevada Law 201.255.Law enforcement wil be hearing about this call....

- PPKAs the others have said, this is a collections agency called Takhar group - somehow they got my work number and I don't give it out to ANYONE. Sometimes your employer will show up on your credit bureau, so my guess is that they did a search on google, called the customer service line, and asked for me by name - scary, huh! Anyway, when I spoke with the gentlemen he was very reasonable and polite - not like some other collections agents.
If you call them back and tell them they have the wrong number, they won't call you again - if you owe a company money, just call them and make an arrangement - again, they are reasonable. They will let you settle for a discount (worse for credit rating), or let you pay the full amount over a period of time, which is better for your credit.- Caller: Takhar Group
- smidge53705WRONG. You can tell them they have the wrong number; you can send them a certified letter telling them they have the wrong number. THEY WILL STILL CALL YOU. I just don't answer the phone. I have written, I have called, I have contacted my state's consumer protection agency. I have done everything I can to get them to stop. They are calling the wrong person. They don't get it. He**....they don't even speak good English.
- ChaTakhar Group calling regarding a very old bill. I did owe it and I was glad I got it taken care of because they will not be giving me a negative mark on my credit. It you owe then pay it not then investigate the company that sent your "bill" to this collection agency.
- Caller: Takhar Group
- billy mayesgot this call a a few times too. they not asking for me, just somebody i've never heard of. ill call them back from a pay phone in case they have caller id. if it is a collection agency there are statute of limitations you know. all states are different, and if you acknowledge verbally you owe some money that statute may be extended. so don't do it. you should check statute of limitations for past debt in your state and any state your past bill is owed to. if its past SOL tell them to go pound sand and quit harassing you. and if they ding your credit you going to sue them. these kind of places buy old debt for pennies on the dollar and if they collect from 1 out of a hundred people they profit. don't give in odds are its too late to collect or you would of been notified by mail legitimately.
- MELISSAI received a message stating I needed to call back immediately between business hours or a decision on a file will be made w/out my response. It didn't say who the call was for or what it was regarding.
