- BradI was extremely skeptical of this call. After being prompted by an automated system to verify a recent charge on my debit/credit card, I didn't even stay on the call long enough to see in depth what kind of information it would request. Being leery, I called my bank to legitimize and make sure my card or personal information had not been compromised. After talking with BB&T's fraud dept., which you can find the number on the back of your bank card, the lady did in which state that this is a legitimate monitoring service that does routinely check on questionable transactions. That is directly from the horses mouth (from the fraud dept. off the number from the back of the bank card...which is currently 18002265228). I'm simply stating that I was directly informed by BB&T that this is a legit phone number. I'm in no shape or form a scammer or working in behalf of some sort of felonious phishing scam. When in doubt, if you're anything like me...play it safe, and call your bank directly to verify. Even knowing this number is legitimate still makes me no more comfortable than prior. I highly suggest using common sense and reasonable judgment. The less personal information you give over the phone, the better. Legitimate or not, be safe and protect your personal information. Call your bank directly, and if any fraudulent activity is suspected, they should in theory be able to verify likewise. And for whatever reason you still don't feel like something's right, cancel your card if that seems to give you a better piece of mind...better safe than sorry.

- S. HolmesEVERYONE SHOULD BE HIGHLY SKEPTICAL HERE. SOMEONE IS POSING AS A BB&T REP USING A PHONE NUMBER THAT IS VERY CLOSE TO, BUT IS NOT, BB&T'S (THE MIDDLE 3 DIGITS ARE 577, NOT 557). MY GUESS IS THAT THEY ARE AFTER MORE PERSONAL INFORMATION THAN THEY ALREADY HAVE (E.G. WHO YOU BANK WITH, YOUR CELL PHONE #, MAYBE A FAMILY MEMBER'S NAME) SO THEY CAN STEAL YOUR IDENTITY. I'M CONVINCED THE "SUPPORTIVE" POSTERS HERE ARE THE SCAMMERS THEMSELVES. BEWARE!!!!!

- WilliamI am associated with BB&T and that is our Debit Card Fraud Monitoring Services department (877-557-0506). They will call to verify if there are any suspicious transactions on your account. I understand it may be annoying if you are making internet purchases, but the internet is were fraud happens the most! So they are doing a good job and looking out for all of their clients.

- William replies to AronSomebody can easily write down your 14 digits of your debit card number, the expiration date, and the CVC code on the back. That is all the information they need. They can do this by just having a look at your debit card and putting it back in your wallet without you ever knowing if you left it on the table somewhere for too long unattended or gathering information from a website that has been hacked or a company (I.e. Target Breach). Be safe on the internet when you make purchases.
- meaganIt's real. When my husband told me about it after the call I got really freaked out...I mean who asks for the two middle of your ssn? But it's real. To confirm, we called bb&t's customer service line and asked all about it.

- I Block Everything First Check LaterLike most of you, I verified It was a real call from BB&T Fraud Dept. Funny, they blocked me trying to reload my Starbucks card but better than letting unauthorized charges go through. No where is my Pumpkin Spice Latte!

- LTThis was a legit call from BB&T. They ask for the 2 digit date of birth, 5 digit zip code, and 2 middle digits of your SS# to verify your account.

- Ang replies to AbeIt IS LEGIT! Call your local BB&T office or better yet.. go in person and they WILL verify it. You are making yourself out to be the idiot.
- ***SCAMMED***| 2 repliesTHIS IS A COMPLETE SCAM - They will represent themselves as BB&T's Debit Card Fraud Monitoring Unit. They will have already used your debit card to place a couple of small pending charges against your account. When you call them back, you give them the information they need to process bigger charges. They will tell you the charges are fraudulent, that they will be reversed, and that your card will be cancelled and reissued in 3 to 5 days. DON'T CALL BACK. CALL THE NUMBER ON THE BACK OF YOUR CARD AND DISPUTE THE CHARGES IMMMEDIATELY. THIS IS THE FIRST STEP IN FULL IDENTITY THEFT
- Observant replies to ***SCAMMED***| 1 replyAs part of the scam, the fraudsters appear to have deposited numerous fake testimonials regarding the legitimacy of this number on various sites like this one.
- Scammed replies to ObservantRETRACTION - I went to BB&T and met with my personal banker today. This is a legitimate automated call and response number used by their fraud department. I confirmed all the details of my pending claim. Yes I was scammed, but this is legitimately BB&T trying to help. I still suggest you call the number on the back of your card.
- Cynthia replies to Jackat least they helped you...they let thieves out of Houston TX steal all my money from my account and I cant even get my money temporarily put back on my account
- J. WelshGlad they called, BB&T Debit Card Fraud Line. Two purchases made on my account!

- VWell, I called their regular customer service number, 1-800-226-5228, and selected option "0". The technician had no questions about any activity. This was after receiving calls to my home as well as a letter. The technician advised that my having called their customer service number, rather than responding to questionable solicitations, was the correct response.
- Mike CReal number for BBT fraud department.
- Caller: BBT
- JOI was hesitant to call the 877-557-0506 # when they called me yesterday. I called the 800# on the back of my debit card and they verified that it was a good phone # and transferred me to the fraud department. They were questioning a purchase that I had legitimately made. I am glad to know that they are monitoring.
