- ChrissyGlad I called back. BB&T Credit Card Fraud Department. Someone tried to use my Debit Card.
- JohnIt is a scam. A lot of posters say it is BB&T fraud department, but this is not true. I do not have any accounts with BB&T. No debit/credit/bank/mortgage/loans or anything. Most of my credit cards are through Chase, and when they question a purchase, they always leave a voicemail with callback number. This caller does not leave any voicemail. It is classic phishing. Please do not fall for it. Tip: If in doubt, call the number on the back of your credit card or debit card if you suspect fraud on your account. Even when Chase calls me about online purchases, I never call them back at the number they leave. Always call the number on the card, just to be 100% sure it isn't a phishing scheme.
- MKS replies to pasThis number belongs to the BB & T (Branch, Banking & Trust) bank. It is their fraud department and is real. However, I would always suggest that you call your local bank to confirm that fraud has actually taken place on your card.
- BBT Customer| 1 replyFraud Call. Do not answer.
- Fraud Squad replies to BBT CustomerPart of a fraud campaign targeting numerous financial institutions. Note the pattern of shill postings all claiming the number is real - an obvious giveaway.
The large number of phony posts claiming the call is real come from some con artists spamming the site to try to fool people. There is a similar pattern to other fake calls claiming to be from Chase, Citibank, Bank of America, US Bank, Wells Fargo, RBC, PayPal, etc. all with the same shill postings:

- Caller: BBT Fraud
- Jean replies to pasI received a call from this number. The man said he was from BB&T Fraud dept asking about a recent transaction they they felt may be a fraudulent purchase, asked for my birth date and to verify the 2 middle numbers of my SS #. I asked questions about the purchase they felt was fraudulent, and how this could happen that someone could access my debit check card info, etc. the explanation was "welcome to the world of technology", that there are card readers that can be put at gas pumps and/or individuals who can "swipe" your card info. I was told a new debit check card would be issued to me and that I could still use my account but my card would be disabled. With this information I did not use my account for any purchases for 5 days while I waited for my new card to arrive. On the 6th day I called my local BB&T branch, explained what happened and asked for them to verify the situation. I was told that this IS the number to BB&T Fraud dept, however, when they called and inquired on my behalf ALL OF THE INFORMATION regarding this call to me WAS NOT MADE and that it was someone attempting to access my information. Even though this number is listed as the FRAUD DEPT, when a BB&T branch manager looked into this through their Fraud Dept I was assured they had not contacted me. Long story short if you receive a call from this be AWARE it could be a scam,,,protect yourself and deal directly with your local branch to inquire about a call like this or call the main BB&T 800 number and talk to a representative.
- Scambuster replies to KLBLooks like another shill for the fraud here.
- MCThis is a legit number. It's from BB&T's fraud dept. Was able to decline a purchase and get my card deactivated right then.
- Caller: BB&T
- MichelleI'm not convinced that this number is from BB&T's fraud department, like many on here seem to believe. I've been called by BB&T's fraud department before, and when I didn't pick up they left a very specific message. This number did not leave a message and just seconds after they hung up, they called my house phone, and also left no message. I checked my bank account and nothing seems to be out of the ordinary, but I will keep an eye on it for a few days.
- Richa cornwell ClarkSomeone tried to take a $50 student. An email was sent to my daughter. It might be the sAme fraud issue from my credit card for over $500
- Memaw09I also rec'd a call from this number, called back, they said my debit card was trying to make a transaction in another state. It was not mine, they told me my card would be cancelled & I needed to go to my bank to get a temporary card. Next morning I got to worring & called the number on the back of my card, They told me this was indeed legitimate. I felt much better. This number 1-877-557-0506 is indeed the Fraud Department. They are helping to stop suspicious transactions from being run thru on your Debit Card. I'm just a Elderly Lady, do not know a lot about all this stuff but I will call them again if they call, you better too.

internalrevenueservice78@mail.com - PaC replies to BlueIt is legitimate from BB & T I had made a money transfer and they were checking it out. The numbers they ask you for are your zip code and the second two numbers of the ss number. They say if you don't feel comfortable doing this, to press 0 for a real customer specialist.
- SC| 1 replyBB&T. They left this number and a case number on my cell phone. I didn't trust that, so I looked at my account online and saw a charge I didn't recognize. I called 800-BANK BBT (not the the number we are talking about) and asked to be transferred to the fraud department. I am in South Carolina. Yesterday someone made a large purchase from a liquor store in New Jersey. NOT me. The thing is, I've only had this card for a couple of weeks. I think these chip readers make cards less secure, not more. I have heard multiple store clerks say this.
- J replies to SCChip cards are more secure only if you use it if you still swipe the card or are using it online that where the compromise happen with the strip on the card not the chip
- kaylahIts a real BB&T card fraud number. i just called the bank for verify and its real!
