Just got the same call.  Someone attempted to make charges with my debit card number 17 times today, ALL OVER THE WORLD!  I about died!  This phone number is legit.  They will ask you for your name & zip code, the middle two numbers in your social & will read off your address for you to verify it's correct.  The first two questions are automated, but if you feel uncomfortable there is an option that puts you directly through to a person.  Once I was connected to a person (which was pretty quickly) they asked if I had purchased anything online today for $20 and I said, "no".  They informed me that my card has been compromised and they will be issuing me a new one in 3-5 business days.  They also told me that I can go to my branch location Monday and get a temporary card and that I can still write checks on my account.  I am so ticked some jerk tried to steal my hard earned money and so thankful that BB & T was diligent in their monitoring & notification.

After reading all of the above comments, I decided to call this number to see what happens. I had been getting calls daily from this number for the past week. I got an automated answering service that asked 3 questions to verify my identity, none of which I thought were too invasive.  After the questions, the recording stated that I had 5 transactions that were questionable and they listed each one.  I compared them with my online bank statement and they were legitimate.  So this number truly is the BB&T Fraud protection service and they are closely watching each charge to make sure they are not fraudulent.

The number is legit, recently my debit card was hit for $900, reported it to my personal banker at BB&T, sent out the bloodhounds and retrieved my $900 within a couple of days, prior to that someone tried to purchase $7,000 worth of airline tickets to Finland, received a call from BB&T about the transaction, they were stopped in their tracks, transaction never happened.  BB&T has been one of the best financial intuitions I have ever dealt with, thank you BB&T for what you do in all phases of your operations, not just the banking side.

I doubt this is BBT.  My debit card has been disabled for the past year.  Nothing goes through except billing that I have set up online.  If you have doubts, call your local branch office.  If they can't help you, they can direct you to someone who can.  I just called my local branch and confirmed that there is no suspicious activity.  This is a scam.  CALL YOUR LOCAL BRANCH!

It's the BB&T Fraud Protection number--It's legit. They called to ask me about some purchases made on my card that I didn't make. Cancelled and issued a new card.

This is a safe number. BB&T's fraud alert line. They are calling to verify a transaction.

The number is valid - BB&T Fraud Protection Department.  So grateful they contacted me concerning a suspicious transaction.

They mentioned my first and last name and said they were BB&T and said it was in regard to fraudulent activity on my debit card.....SCAM...I do not have a BB&T account.

Fraud..The real bb&t will not call and they said do not answer any calls and ask you those questions or tell you the information that they tell. Please do not give any information such as passwords or pins or any of your social security number. Not answering is the easiest.

if this is a scam number if you have bb&t or truist and they send you a text saying someone tried to scam you by sending money to their account and they said to call this number it is a scam please watch out i called truist and they denied this number . It's a guy with a strong accent who answer the phone

Re activate debit card

I received a call at6:30 tonight. It said they were from bbt and they gave me a case number. I didn’t call back. BBT email measure urgent if there’s a problem.
