I entered what I thought was a free entry competition on my Samsung Tablet. I then recieved a text from 88222 saying that I had joined ipad winners,FREE PLAY @http://bit.ly./LWHQvr.£4.50 a weekuntil you send stop to 88222 care 08435236370
I have just sent "STOP" to 88222 and have got a free message back stating that these will stop as from tomorrow.
Why do service providers allow this form of robbery

They are refusing to give me a refund, as they say I replied to their text. I only opened it as I didn't know who it was from. I am a pensioner, so feel very disgruntled that they are taking advantage

I entered a free competition to win an iPad. I had a message from 77games on my mobile telling me that I had joined iPad winners FREE PLAY @ http://bit.ly/LWHQvr. "£4.50/week until u send stop to 88222". I used the reply option to text "Stop".  The message recorded "Send failed" on 6 occasions. I have now sent "STOP" as a new message to 88222. I have received a reply "Thank you for your STOP message. The last service from the short code requested will be stopped on your phone within one working day". I am yet to discover where I have been charged & the total amount.

Tried to cancel but keep getting text not delivered number to cancel is stop 88222

This is a very underhand marketing ploy.  On my tablet I received a message to win an IPad. I answered the question (which was very simple) then I received a message to enter my mobile number, which I did, then I received a txt message saying that "U have joined IPad winners, FREE PLAY @ HTTP//BIT.LYHQvr £4.50/week until u send stop to 88222 Care 0843596213.  I have received 5 texts one after the other and I don't know how to trest them

I also got the same message - it was from a reputable web site providing software for my phone - then I got bombarded with texts saying I will be charged £4.50 a week no mention was made of a cost BEFORE I entered -
I am sure this not legal.  

I have now sent a message STOP to 88222 and have been advised it will stop tomorrow - I called my provider and they told that you can put a cap on my monthly call allowance so if you pay £25.00 a month - make sure its capped until you are completely sure you are not being robbed by these people

Pop up on iPad App for checking broadband speed with chance to win a free iPad - asked for mobile number - this was given and a message received acknowledging then a further one saying I had joined I Pad winners. FREE PLAY @£4.50/week until I send Stop which I did but found £4.50 had already been taken from my credit .

I also had the same message but cancelled straight away and received a message back to say it would be stopped within a day . But have put money on my pay as you go and within seconds the money had gone. Because I have no credit I can't cancel again. I have been on their web site and they give another number to cancel.  82344.

I am being billed by 02 @£1.50 per text sent from 88222 who I contacted in June complaining about the charges ,they said they would refund the charges made and stop the texting they have done neither and the charges are still being made  Marketing Craze based in Manchester they have been find £25,000 in December 2008 but must be making load of money from these unauthorised charges enabling them to pay these fines.they need to be shut down and heavily fined for each month that they continue operating this scam how about £1.000.000 per month.

Like all others I have been had by this scam! I downloaded a weather app , and then asked to enter a free competition to win an iPad. ( silly me! Nothing is for nothing these days)! So I did and entered my mob. No. When asked, then had 4 text mess saying I would be charged £4.50 a day until I text stop! Tried that and was told mess was to short, so phoned the no that was on mess, got a woman straight away and she said it would be stopped . Mmmmmm waiting to see if I have been charged loads !

Wont allow a stop message to send!  Wants to charge me £4.50 a week!  I dont want this, and feel i have been coerced into an unlawful situation/agreement

Phone network provider who will give you an 0845 number to phone to get off mailing list and also request refund for unsolicited texts either by cheque which will take 10-14 days or via PayPal within 2-3 days

I was charges "£24 for text's from 88222 on a phone used by daughter contacted orange about unsolistated text's hey put a block on number and gave me a contact number of the third party who operate the service, they also agreed to stop messages via an 0845 number and then gave me the number for the client who hey acted for again a simple phone call and the operator ageed to stop messages instantly as the stop all text i was advised to send by orange could take up to 48 hours in which ime further text's could be received, they also agreed to refund payments as i was monthly plan they could post cheque or paypal payment i choose paypal and £30 was in paypal account the next day to cover text's over a 6 week period

They would not stop texting me and I kept on typing in the request so they would stop and they didn't.

Just received message to say I have joined ipad winners for £ 4.50 a week. I do not want to do this.

That number is shared by a variety of Companies.     Talk to your service provider and to PhonepayPlus to get their help.

If you want to log a complaint to PhonepayPlus  you can call their helpline on 0800 500 212 (Mon-Fri, 0900-1700).   PhonepayPlus is a service from Ofcom.
