- Dan the ManHey, this is just one of those stupid texting scams. You know those commercials that say "Ohh, text this for jokes" or "text this number to get this ring tone." I remember the commercials saying "Text 'Stop' to (whatever number) to cancel subscription. I did, and I instantly got a reply saying "You will no longer receive message from this contact." I just did it now, so I have yet to confirm it. So yeah, Reply the word "Stop" and legally, they should honor that. if they don't then yeah, file suit. ^_^ Hope this helps anybody who reads it.
Peace, Dan the Man. - PascaleJ'ai des appelles 88588 mais je ne suis pas capable de les enlever meme si je fais stop 88588. Ils continussent a me l'envoyer pareil. J'ai parfois 23 messages en 1 seul appel...quelqu'un pourrait m'aider svp

- JJ FahrniYes, I am another victim of these scammers. About $85 charged to these creeps.
I am most willing to make this public - take these guys to the cleaners - publicize the scam and get out money back.
When I used to broadcast injustices in the media, this would have been an ideal subject for the show.
I have no idea how these people got my number - I m trying to remember if I ever gave out my number. I only have this phone so that my mother can call me when I am at the store.
I am her full time caregiver and just found out 2 days ago that my pay as you go phone was at less than one dollar.
It was only when I then checked my account that I saw these charges were being made every second day and kept on coming until my entire account was nearly at zero.
An absolute scam.
Jennifer - HowieYou do realize that they cant call you or text you unless you give them ur number right?
-Howie - LindsayI got a txt from 40000 which gave me the same 866 number as the 88588 texts do. When I reply to 40000 it simply says "sorry messages to this address are not responded to. Please send your message to the appropriate number for the service you are contacting"... what the hell? I don't want these texts and I certainly don't want to be paying $2.00 a message for them!
- Caller: ?
- PhillWow, I can't believe this scam has been going on for so long and that it seems perfectly legal!
I just got hit for $137 after receiving 64 messages from the 88588 group of numbers. I'm on a $10 a month plan and only use my cell phone for emergencies, so I hit the roof when I saw the bill. Fido refused to help and after investigating who owns the number I found the Wixawin website (based out of Holland according to the whois IP address).
The website clearly states that you will not be subscribed to the service unless you enter, on their website, a 4 digit ID pin that is supplied to you in the first text message. I never entered any pin number and I never replied to any of the text messages. So I think it's safe to assume they (the owners) have found a way to legally obtain payment without your consent.
I'm now disputing the costs with Fido. I've terminated my agreement with them and I'm taking my complaint to senior members of the organization.
