When I answered, there was a recording, "Call back Ron Jackson at 888 379 4884"  That's it.  No company name, no reason.

I get this call from people too. I don't know what they want but I seriously just got this phone number like 2 months ago. My husband and I both check our credit reports once a year and owe nothing to anybody. I don't pick up the phone when they call and nobody leaves me a voicemail, they just hang up the phone and call back two seconds later.

You are an idiot!  This company is harrassing people, some of whom may not even owe money to anyone. This company is a shark, looking for bait. Perfect you may not owe money now, maybe not even in the future, but you made yourself the lowlife of the day by criticizing those who got themselves into debt. That is not your business, and it really is not the business of this company.......they are a proven scam, playing on the down trodden. Get a life, even better, get a loan and try being late for a week...see how it feels.
People are having a hard time in this economy and believe me, they do not intentionally forgo on a bill, Things happen...a lost job, sickness, an accident; Things we have no control over. Priorities will sometimes but off a bill to a later date.
Next time, Mind your own business. If you can't say anything nice, don't say anything. It makes you the total idiot!

I sued ALW Sourcing, LLC in small claims court for violating a ceast and desist letter. In my letter, I wrote that if they contact me ever again by phone, that they agree to pay me a default court award of $100,000, and by signing and reading the letter, they agree and understand and if they did not agree, to write me a letter stating why and return it within 20 days. They never sent a letter to me. The judge awarded me the full $100,000 and additional damages of $50,000 for harrassment. That was 5 months ago and they still haven't paid up, so I am filing a subpoena for information on their [***]!!! THEY ARE THE DEADBEATS NOW!!

They called, I ansered with Hello and they responded "Goodbye" and hung up. It seems they are trying to collect a debt from the owner of my cell phone number of 4 years ago. They keep coming back every once in a while, even though I've explained it was someone else years ago.

They aren't a scam but a collection agency calling your #, so the FCC do not call list doesn't apply as they get the information from the original creditor that they are collecting on behalf of...

I agree the Clark Howard Show is good source of consumer rights for sure.

Maybe you are a contact for someone who ows a debt...how else would a C/A get your number? Can send a Cease and Decist letter to them so they stop calling, as well as fax it. This is your right even if you owe the debt, as they can then only communicate with you via US Mail...that is if they obey the law. This ecomony is effecting everyone to some extent! Good luck to you.

this was taken from the FEDERAL STUDENT AID website

    Statute of Limitations

By virtue of section 484A(a) of the Higher Education Act, statute of limitations of no kind now limits Department’s or the guaranty agency's ability to file suit, enforce judgments, initiate offsets, or other actions, to collect a defaulted student loan. Regardless of the age of the debt, statutes of limitation are no longer valid defenses against repayment of a student loan.

So even though she defaulted, apparently there is no timeline to repay a federal student loan or collect on it.  If you own a home, I'm suprised they haven't got a lean on it if it is a significant loan amount that was defaulted on. Good luck to you, they'll probably keep calling

    WTF?
Keep getting repeat calls from this number, several times a day at random hours. SO ANNOYING! I don't owe them any money, so they're barking up the wrong tree. Luckily this website exists so everyone that's posted here can be warned that the company is a scam, and not to pay a dime of any alleged "debt" that isn't legitimate. Demand to know the name of the company that they are trying to collect the so-called debt for (like Macy's for example), just save your breath and call that company directly to see IF you  actually owe them anything. In my case it was all paid in full, but these people use old documents that are no longer accurate to try and get you to pay them, as if you don't actually know if you've been current on your own bills? Please. Beware when strangers call you and want personal information like your social security number - do NOT give it out since its none of their friecking business. Turn the tables and ask the caller for THEIR social security number and mother's maiden name, and see how fast they hang up on you! What a hilarious post by "debtfree" - you obviously work there. Try learning Grammar sometime.

Interesting article posted 4/23/2010 in the Business section of New York Times newspaper: "Learning How To Fight The Collector"

    http://www.nytimes.com/2010/04/24/business/24 ... =general&src=me

Also see www.debtorboards.com - this contains LOTS of useful information such as the Telephone Consumer Protection Act,  Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, various State laws and links to Court websites, Consumer Attorneys, Case Law,  Federal Rules, Collection Agencies, Bankruptcy, and Lawsuit Fundamentals.

It would be really great if an Attorney/Law Firm out there was willing to start a Class Action Lawsuit on behalf of all the citizens that have been illegally and continually harassed by these illiterate clowns at ALW. If any such Attorney/Law firm is interested, then please post your contact info here on this site so we can all get the ball rolling.

There are at least 150 fed up people right here who are tired of being illegally harassed, bullied, threatened, mocked and insulted for FAKE/nonexistent debts they do not legitimately owe!

ALW will not stop going after innocent people unless they are legally forced to, once and for all, stop their illegal conduct. If they were legitimate, they would not be able to stay in business using bogus debts that don't exist anymore, so I'm not sure how they are still around to begin with. Maybe some people have been bullied into paying what they don't owe. Why should we have to tolerate their ridiculous scam tactics otherwise? Let's use the legal system to the help average citizens, especially if the law is on the consumer's side, as it appears to be in this potential case.

THEY CALL ME EVERYDAY, ALMOST EVERY HOUR! and have been doing so the past 4 months.
The only time my funds went into the red zone was last year and I have already taken care of it last year. Why did they decide to start calling me 4 months ago? Who knows.
Thanks to what I've read here, I know to keep ignoring them, and not pick up, ever, *growls*.
