I think annie has a point here....

notice how the word 'legit' is in almost all of the favorable posts herein??

NEVER legitimate... very very improbable for that word to be used so exclusively.

I stand (self) corrected as legitimate is there too, just not so often as legit.

still, lotta use of legit here.

either way, I also got the aforementioned call (he left a voicemail) and of course I emailed my CU to
see if it is 'legit' or otherwise. I would never initially respond to such a VM message.

Legitimate call - they were calling to let me know that I had a couple of fraudulent charges made on my account yesterday. (TruWest Credit Union) They didn't ask for any personal information. Now to play the waiting game for a new debit card.

Legit.  Had a voice message on my machine.  Being suspicious, I called the number on the back of our credit card and was informed that there was indeed a security alert on our card due to some inregular (but valid) charges we've recently made.  I appreciated the vigilance.

I got called by them today telling me they were from the security department of my CU. the previous night my Netflix account was hacked so I was a little suspicious. I only gave them last 4 digits of my SSN and my date of birth. They told me I had 2 transactions that were flagged from Southfield Michigan store and gas station. Told them it wasn't me so they put a hold on the transactions and my card. Still feeling suspicious I called the lost or stolen number on the back of my card and they were able to verify the transactions and the holds. I would have to say legit though I was still suspicious.

Number is legitimate - Falcon fraud detection services.  If you are not sure, as I wasn't, you can always call the customer service number printed on the back of your credit card and ask them if it is a legitimate call and have them transfer you to their fraud handling service.  Turns out when I checked recent transactions on my card's account portal, I had a small $8.06 charge (to see if the account was active) yesterday for a dental office halfway across the continent from me the day before, and when I called Falcon told me that they had blocked a $500+ charge today to Ethiopian Airlines.  So yeah, this number is legit.

Ha.  As soon as I posted this message, I was returned to the forum and what do you know, a few posts above mine there is a post about how the positive posts all use the word 'legit' as though that is an indicator of 'bogus' posts...honest guys n' gals, I used the word 'legit' because, well, er, the service and number is.  But if it helps, I will henceforth always instead use the term 'legitimate'.  Anyways, do what I did, call your card's customer service number and check the number through them.  Just trying to help.

I check my online bank account regularly and noticed an unauthorised charge on it. I went straight to my credit union in person and explained the situation. The teller (whom I know very well) said they have a contract with a company for any fraud problems and she hand wrote this number on a post-it for me. I called it from my car outside of the credit union. I get why people are worried, but many businesses contract for some services nowadays. I got my card turned off, the charges reversed and I'm soon to have my new card. It is a real service, but always check with your own credit union before giving out info!

This was a legitimate call for me - I called my bank to confirm and she said the number is their fraud division. I called it back and turns out some joker was using my card information in NYC so we had to go through recent charges to confirm what was legitimate

I do my banking through First Source Federal Credit Union.  This company is a fraudulent detection company for multiple banks.  If you are in doubt if you should've received this call, just call your bank.

This is a real company.  I can't figure out why this topic has grown to 15 pages of back and forth "is it real or not".  Yes, it's real.  If you don't call, they'll simply lock down your card until the activity they deem as suspicious can be verified.

Legitimate call.  I got a voicemail asking me to call back regarding "routine security check" on my credit card with "******* credit union" along with a case # to reference.  Since I had made some some small purchases with this card online yesterday and then tried to make a purchase with it today (moments before they called) which was then declined, I was interested in finding out what was going on.  I called my credit union first and they confirmed that my card had a "hold" on it and the company calling me handled the fraud services for it and that I should return the call.  With that assurance,  I did.  After giving my phone number and verifying case #, I verified 4 authorized transactions that took place in the last 4 days and the "hold" was removed.  The person I spoke to was professional and did not ask for any personal info other than my phone #.

A woman called Christmas evening and said they were doing a routine security check on our account.  She asked for my birth date and last four of my SS number.  I gave her nothing.  She stated her name was Virginia and even gave me a case number to reference.  I immediately hung up and called my bank directly.  They said they do not do random checks and it was a scam. Lucky for us I did not give her any information. I went online and checked our accounts.  Nothing wrong with them. A word of caution, when someone calls you and wants you to give them information they should already have, hang up and call the company back directly.

The left me a voicemail with a case number to reference. I called them back and it was my bank security just wanting to verify some charges on my card. The only thing they asked for was the reference number and my name. I verified the amounts of the charges and they closed the inquiry. We had certainly used the card both locally and online more than an average amount of times it being around Christmas, so I was cool with the inquiry. Very legit.

This was a credit card monitoring service used by my credit union. They didn't ask anything more personal than my name. Nothing to freak out about. I verified some recent purchases and that was that. I had expected their call as I had been out of town to a new town I'd never been to before and was using my card there for the past week. I'm glad credit unions look out for fraud.

Legitimate, professional, helpful.  If concerned, you can call the cardholder services toll free number on the back of your credit card and have them connect you directly, instead of calling the number.

Totally legit. I just received a call and returned the call back to this number. It was my credit union's fraud protection service notifying me about several suspicious purchases on my card. I was asked several security questions to verify. I did not provide my full card number, as they already had it on file. I was able to verify MY recent transactions stated to me, but denied the suspicious ones (totalling about $375). My card is now deactivated and I need to obtain another one on Monday at my credit union.
