they have been calling my dads non stop I just found out today ... I rarely speak to my parents ... and do noy have the money to pay them... also very confused on if they r scammers or not ?? I also have kids

I was away and had a call come in from that number saying I'm being sued and to contact them imediately. They have called family and friends and are harrassing them and being  pushy. This has got to stop. I have no idea what this is about and and when I googled the name to see about the law firm I came across all these stories about people being scammed. How come they haven't been caught yet? Some stories go back as far as 2008?

Yes, I got an official call from Paul Cooperstein quoting a case number, telling me it was an urgent legal matter and it was pertinent that I call back right away as it is an investigation. What investigation? There is no investigation. What is even better is the call was for my mother, who lives somewhere else! I thought I would look on the computer as it seemed suspicious, and that's when I found this :)

Now I find out they are a Collection Agency, not a Law Office. Still not sure if they are a scam or not, but I won't be speaking to them!!

Alright, they just called me tonight.  I have no idea why.  I don't deal with any cash stores and do not owe anyone any money.  Some of you guys have to do a little Internet research on debt collection rules in Canada.  Before they can do anything, they have to send you a written report.  Detailing the terms of the debt you owe, to whom you owe the money and a few other details.  If you haven't received that then no need to worry just yet.  Second they are legally required to behave in a professional manner on the phone.  They are technically not allowed to yell at you or call you names or anything like that.  I intend to call them back tomorrow and record the phone conversation.  Just download an app on you're cell and make sure all contact with them from now on goes through the cell phone.  And yes you can legally record a conversation in ontario if you are one of the two people involved in the conversation.  There are a few other rights people have when it comes to dealing with debt collectors,like for instance they cannot demand any more money from you then what you owe.  I do believe interest can accrue but that's it.  They cannot let other people know about you're personal information regarding the debt so if you catch them doing any of that, just tell them, you have been recording these calls and will let you're lawyer listen to them and see what he or she thinks.  It could just be an empty threat but I bet it gets them off you're case.  Just be informed, the Internet is a wonderful place!

Omg this jerk called me today and threaten to sue me and im glad i looked on here . I thought it was kind of funny he called back after i threatened him with my lawyer. Im goin to ctv news about this loser

I just got a call this morning saying that the cash store is sueing me for a loan I had back in 2011. That the cash store finally got a hold of me a couple months ago after a long wait. now this idiot is calling me saying I got to go too court

Regardless if a debt is owed, that doesn't give these POS's the right to harass people, use manipulative scare tactics and treat people like criminals just so they can earn a commission.  Making up a grande story about being a "legal assistant" who's going to have the authorities come into your workplace and arrest you if you haven't paid 1000 g's within 24 hours and then threatening that you will appear in court and potentially be charged with Theft Under $5,000.00 is in no way, whatsoever, "legal."  This group is a bunch of scummy COLLECTION AGENTS who clearly have no conscience or they wouldn't be able to sleep at night, passing themselves off as lawyers and legal assistants.  People, unfortunately, don't realize that collection agents have no real power.  They just like to pretend they do.  So they can threaten you all they want but if you have been handed a [***] set of circumstances at some point in your life and rent and feeding your children is more of a priority than paying off 600.00 Money Mart bill, then they can shove it up their [***] and you can smile and laugh in their face about it because there is nothing.they.can.do. End of story.  I hope you lying, manipulative, cold-hearted collection agents realize that what goes around comes around because everybody finds themselves in financial problems at one point or another in their life and you bottom feeders sure have it coming.

These trash bags operate so far outside of what they are allowed to do it will be a matter of time before the end up like Deanne Natale and out of the collection game. Yes pay your debts but there is no law saying you need to deal with these [***] unless they have a court order

They have recently called me twice now. " Mr. David"  funny how I have to call them back within 24 hours regarding "a legal matter". They really don't like it when you call with an attitude... hahaha and Not only did he ask for my name ( which ok....) but needs my phone number to know who he called....... the file number he gave me wasn't good enough..?? figure that one out. I see most ppl are saying that they are trying to play collection agency..... well guess what, I have nothing in collections.  Plus from past experience with an ex bf who had collections chasing him, they send you paper work and they call you. They don't hang up on you b/c you have an attitude and refuse to tell you why they are calling. For those of you who do have legit debts in collections, call the LEGIT company it's with and go that route don't deal with these SO CALLED DEBT COLLECTORS! Also for a "law office" funny how they ARE NOT REGISTERED with the BBB. Plus the BBB is showing complaints against them also!  Do your research before you dish out money and screw their threats!  REPORT THESE [***]!

Mr. Davis 905 474-3535 left a message regarding a legal matter. This number called for my fiancé and when I called them back they didn't want anything to do with me.  My fiancé  called them back and they are a debt collector, but not for him, for a "so called friend" that used him as a reference.  This "friend" cannot be tracked down and this was their only contact for him. My fiancé politely asked to be taken off the file due to the fact he never gave this "friend' permission to use him as a reference. Believe it or not Mr. Davis was polite and removed his name. We'll see if we get anymore phone calls regarding this matter.

Thinking this is an unauthorized company, as my husband had received a call, and my mother, like the comments above, requesting an immediate call back regarding a civil matter. I called back, was told was the same thing as above posts. I told mr.paul to send me paperwork in regards to this matter. About 2 weeks ago I recie ed paperwork in mail stating I owe cash store $729 still, and will proceed to get their money! Even though cash store has their $700!! this is a scam, and it has been happening to everyone I know who used cash store just after the cut off date for that stupid law suit the company faced. If you keep getting these calls, send it to info@antifraudcentre.ca it may take a while but at least if more people report it it stands a bigger chance of finding out what and who is harassing you. I have a legal matter that isn't anything related to this yoho, take it seriously though. His name was Mr. David...no last name, ask for me by my first name ONLY...asked (deliberately) for the number twice...seemed very annoyed and rushed through it..asked for a message as I pretended it wasn't me soon as I felt something wasn't right! Got the number and search it here...REPORT this if it happens to you to the email above.

A man by the name of Richard Hazel called my place of employment stating that he was a lawyer and that if I did not come up with $1406.54 by the following day at 11:30 am they would come to my place of employment with a supenia and garnish my entire wage...which is illegal as they can only take a percentage. He also stated that he would stop any direct deposits into my bank account and would sue me for $5000.00 for damages to the company because of my failure to clear my debt....BTW My debt to the loan company was less that $1000.00 to begin with and has been over half way paid off willingly. How is this ok????? Why are they allowed to use these tactics???? As it turns out they are now allowed to do this....it is called harrassment and is illegal!!!! Dont let this company intimidate you!

I got a call from the paul kupferstien office today or "LAW OFFICE" and are telling me that if I don't pay 4 grand in 48 hrs im being charged with fraud and 3 to 5 yrs!! if  they wana take me to court for 8 to 12 grand when I only owe 4 yes I owe times were tuff when I called cash store to set up payment arrangements they told me it in legal matter now and then that's when law office called ...what do I do they say because I owe cash store and instaloans that they are the same company and that i frauded them..

yes I had no idea the cash store and instaloan were the same company when checked the box that said I had no previous outstanding loans with Instaloan. I got the same call re: fraud today. Omg. Help?

Paul called stating they are taking my money. I am on disability and have limited money. He said they have started a lawsuit and we will have to pay an xtra 2000 for lawyers. I will pay the bill but do not and will not pay any xtra.
