I had mr.hazell call me same story as everyone else
i called the cash store directly
they gave me another company to call...called them....they gave me another # to call...guess what # 9054743535 i asked if this was a debt collection agency...she replyed yes...the Name of the elusive company is...... Total Liability Solutions ...and yes they are collection agency...not lawyers office

Just to put some people at ease... I used to work in collections... remember in your head, companies do not collect money to punish people, they collect it to recover money. To take something to court will cost a company about $1500 in legal fees alone. Do the math... Do you think they will take you to court for $300 if it's going to cost them $1500 min to even file a claim. I too have had a phone call or 12 from Mr David. What a joke. I have been out of work for 6 months taking care of 2 terminally ill grandparents. I did take the loan out and I am aware of any and all debts I need to repay, but I need to get a job to do so. I'm glad I have to knowlegde to understand what is and is not a sham, and I hope I give those in similar positions to me the same comfort. Be honest and up front with the actual companies of your situations and frankly, IGNORE the collections. Pay your companies DIRECTLY and KEEP RECEIPTS... because at the end of the day... The actual companies you owe are who will report to your credit bureaus not the agencies... so pay the ones that have your future in mind... There are ppl who purposely throw themselves into debt and don't care and do so fraudulently. For the rest of us who get into a bad spot and have to work for a long time to get out of it... Do what you can, put food and shelter first, take a deep breath and understand... you're a good person and these ppl have absolutely no right to tell you otherwise. Just be honest and deal with it as soon as you can...

in response to veryconcerned's comment to any follow-up:  I first wrote to this site on August 19, 2008 and again on October 22, 2008 and still have not heard from these so called lawyers or whatever they call themselves.  I told them if there was a legitimate bill to please send it and then I would see that it gets paid.  I was told to deposit it into their account and it would be fine.  Hell no.  Even if it is a ligit bill i need proof of it.  I am not a dimwit to just trust someone with that kind of money to just hand it over.  I told Mr. David that if I didn't see this bill they wouldn't see any money and you can take me to court if you want to.  Haven't heard anything else from them.  So don't worry.

I was called by these people too. regarding a payday loan that was in arears.They too threatened court fees ($3000.) plus more if full amount wasnt paid within 24 hrs.I made a deal with mr.sergeant and I'm payin bi-weekly.I phoned today to request a fax showing me amount owed and why it was so much.He told me I should know how much and why...he refused to comply with my request and threw a fit, said he'll be taking me to court and hung up on me.

I to got a call from a Mr.David.  Can't call back as it is long distance.  Same thing, number not listed in Canada 411 and I even did a reverse number no listings.  So I to googled the number also.  Feel sorry for him when he calls back.

Ask for a Laurie Fex which there is no such person I only use this last name when my children were in school. They are now in their 20's. Mr. Klasen said he was calling from Paul Cooperstein and Associates and left a case number. I looked it up in the phone book and could not find it so i decided to google him and this is what i found. I do not want this person to call me back but dont know how to stop him.

My brother in law received a call from Mr. David, stating that I had left him as a reference, and I was about to be sued. My brother in law called me and told me and I called the number. Mr. david did not recognise my name nor my brother in law's name, He asked me what the phone number was he dialed out!!! When I told him he said that he needed ID to prove who I was and I had to fax it to him! I refused and he said he would see me in court, I told him O.K. and hung up to google the number. Unacceptable!!!! This is fraud! If it was a legitimate investigation there would be communication, not evasion and intimidation.

These people are absolute SCAMMERS.  I knew there was something up when I called the number and the display said, 'law office'. Duh..

I called 222-TIPS and the police said they are being innudated with these type of calls. For those people out there who are concerned.  Don't worry.  These people are absolute [***]!!

I just got that call today, they called asking for me, not knowing what it was for i had said that i wasn't home, as he was calling me on a number thats not even mine. anyways, i 441'd the number and it came up Paul Kopferstien & associates or some [***] like that, so i google it, and i can't even find the main site, its all reports of a mad scam going on both in the US and Canada, if you recieve a call from a steve sargent, mr david, or any of the other [***] names they use, DO NOT SEND THEM MONEY UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCE!! Joys of fraud and our [***] world we live in, people need to get a [***] life

Don't fool around with these people, the are legit.  And they CAN and WILL take you to court.

These collection agencies are violating the law, and they know that most people are unaware of the law and thier own rights.

I have been getting these calls from law office 905-474-3535 i was crying when i told a mr. klassin that i can make a payment on the 20th of this month cause the only income i have is my child tax and im a single mom of 4 trying to go back to school he got very angry with me and started threatning that i would be going to jail for fraud and that he was going to have my accounts and assest froze... then stated a sherif and local police would be by within 48 hours if i didnt cll hi back within 12 hours with $600 i told him i had no one who could help me and he stated again and again i would be charged with fraud and go to jail... he didnt do anything but wait a few days to call again and again so i contacted him and asked to speak with his manger or supirvoser he put a mr. sergeant on the phone and he stated i can make payment arrangements for the 20th of this month april 2009 and to call him monday morning to make these arragements .. and that if i didnt it would have to go to court.. now i got a letter on friday in the mail from the office of paul kupferstein and after reading all this im not sure i wanna pay them... someone let me know what i should do its now saturday night monday is coming fast... thanks....

I got a call the other day around 9pmish pretty late... wasn't expecting any calls what so ever... I checked my caller id and it said just Law Office... which I thought quite weird... especially since when a law office does call you it has the names of either the owner or the actual lawyers...I couldn't well didn't answer my phone though i knew I should have... as I had company... I inevitably knew that they would leave a message... gathered around the dinning table chatting with my friends.. sure enough i seen the msg lite flashing... So I went to check.. the message said this message is for... me, that it is a legal matter and that I should call back within 24 hours or I would be taken to court.... so immediately I was pretty scared... thinking I should have done something about my debt sooner..I let it off while my company was here... the next day I was going to call back but the "Law Office" called me first.. I answered to a Mr.David who stated he works for Kupferstein and Associates here in Ontario. He said he was representing this law office, for a defaulted pd loan with the cash store, and that it must be paid within 24 hours or I will be served with papers by my local authorities for a court date, in which I would be criminally charged for fraud, that I would pay for it for the next seven years not be able to have credit for anything, that any job I looked for the employer would know of this charge.... (especially kinda hard to pay it back when you have no job and they say this) , and my accounts would be frozen pending a 3-month investigation... which was also fishy cause normally when you're being investigated someone immediately either comes to your door or sends you a letter... so I was very worried unti I came across this... I'm not making excuses I know I owe this money and I will pay it... seeking credit debt counseling and everything in my power... but no one needs these [***] calling them when  ever they feel like it threatening you like that and being pretty rude I might add... and telling you your only option for all this to go away is to pay the full amount immediately or as of noon the next day the papers will be sent off and I will be sued... Also I'm pretty sure if you're going to be sued... you would be notified firstly my mail as it is pretty confidential and everything would be stated within that letter and not be discussed over the phone...  SO THIS IS NOW MAY 2009 AND THESE FIN A HOLES ARE STILL GETTING AWAY WITH THIS come on

This is a law office and not a collection agency. The problem is that Fair Debt Collection act does not apply to them. They are simply a law firm that recovers accounts for all kind of companies.

I got call from Mr David to make payment within 24 hours, i said i dont have money now to make payment. He called again and said that file has been sent to court. I think this David is trying make money from the poor people, he is asking 2 times than real amount. My advice to all the people who are seeing this comment, IF YOU EVER GET CALL FROM THIS PERSON OR FROM THIS NUMBER 905-474-353 THEN U SHOULD CONTACT YOUR CREDITORS AND DEAL WITH THEM, IF U DEAL WITH CREDITORS U ONLY PAY LESS THAN WHAT HE ASK, SO PLSS DO NOT WORRY, ITS NOT CRIMINAL OR FRAUD CHARGES, HE TRY TO SCARE PEOPLE BY SAYING THIS. CANADA HAS GIVIN RIGHTS TO EACH AND EVERY PERSON, BUT MOST PEOPLE DONT KNOW THEIR RIGHTS THAT WHY PEOPLE GET SCARED. SO ONCE AGAIN, DEAL WITH CREDITORS. BE HAPPY

my mom got a call today looking for my boyfriend saying that he needs to get ahold of him today. when he called back mr sargeant sayed he had less then 24 hours to come up with the money or he is going to court and get a lawer. i think its fishy and i will be looking hard core into it i think it a scam

I received this call on Wednesday,asking me to call a Mr.Sargent to resolve this matter and that chargers were brought against me.  Since, I only had this number for a short time, and they specifically asked for some other person including a case number and the fact that an Officer Heemskirk of Toronto Police court services was also looking for some individual about a week prior to this person calling, I just assumed it was about the same person.  I phoned Mr. Sargent right away, a secretary answerered Paul Cooperstein and Associates, and directed me to Mr. Sargent, whom was very official and impatient.  I explained the error in his calling  for the wrong person and he apologized. I also told him, under the assumption he was legitimate, that I had all ready contacted the Toronto Police Court services with the same information error.  

It wasn't until I looked up his number, and read everyone's reports that I realized that he was some kind of scam artist.  Yikes!!  I will double check next time before making any return calls to these scammers.

Aug 7/09  I made a comment earlier about Mr. Klassen calling my house for someone else and when I spoke to the person, she had never given out my number to anyone.  I have made inquiries on this call and how collections works.  Firstly, whoever you owe money to will write you a letter indicating the amount you owe.  Failing a reply they will then send you more correspondence indicating the account will be forwarded to collections.  When this happens, collections will forward you correspondence indicating your account is with them.  No company bypasses this proceses.  This Paul Cooperstein & Assoc. does not exist (after checking it out on the net and Law Society) however I advise you to read up on this Paul Cooperstein on the net -FRAUD is linked with this person.  So be aware - inform the caller you do not want them calling for reasons you are not aware of, or ask them to send you correspondence indicating what they are telling you so you can have your legal counsel attend to it.  Do not let the caller intimidate you, speak up.  A friend said, when they call, just put the phone down until they hang up - its their quarter.  Or if you have caller block - then block this number from your phone.  And remember to always report these incidents.  The more attention to this matter may get publication in local papers to warn others. The 905 area code is from Ontario.

I had a friend that worked there, he was a collector for the company. Mr kupferstein doesnt even have an office in that building, hes just paid be the collection agency to USE his name.By a tammy earle, and jay cowen. As for "mr david" thats not even his real last name its juan Orbegozo. They buy old debt thats already gone threw a colletion company. Although you do owe that debt, they always rank up the outstanding amount. With there legal fee's and [***]. It never goes to court!!!!!! They couldnt afford to do so anyways. It is a huge scam, all the money you give them just goes on there pay check, in the past they didnt even give all the money back to there clients, thats why they lost soo many and faced threating charges themselves. These people rip off the lawyers, there co workers, there clients, inosent people, and even the guilty people. If you know, you owe money to any cash store GO PAY THE STORE IN PERSON. That way you can get it off your mind. And if everyone does soo then the "cash stores" wont have anything to send to them, which will cause there company to go under AGAIN.

For starters, this man cannot claim to  be from a law firm as when law firms undertake credit collections,they are no longer deemed to be law firms but COLLECTION AGENCIES.  Secondly, if the caller (Mr Klassen) claims to be ready to charge you with fraud, he  CANNOT charge you with fraud.  Fraud would only have been committed if you had provided incorrect information on your application NOT BECAUSE YOU DEFAULTED ON THE LOAN!  Members of the general public even if they are calling from a law firm CANNOT CHARGE YOU WITH FRAUD!  Fraud is a police matter.  If it were possible to charge all the people who have defaulted on loans thru banks, payday loan companies, etc were guilty of fraud because they defaulted on  repayment, why then are the courts not clogged with people being charged with fraud.  If this man Mr Klassen and others who work with this so called law firm call you using  their scare tactics, call and report them to the Law  Society and try to find out the collection agency name associated with this firm and report it to the relevant government agency.  What he is doing is unlawful using threats and intimidation tactics and this i illegal.
