Don't admit to anything even if you do owe the money there is a Statute of Limitations on debts as of 2004 your debt was well out of that range. The man that once owned/ran this company is what I call a lifer he works for different debt companies after different companies collecting debts because he can't get a real job. They get themselves in trouble at one job and then move on to another. I think debt collectors are the lowest form of life at least the ones that work for companies like MCA.  Most are uneducated and Unethical the ones at the top are the guys that are the guys/girls at the top of the Slime list. You will see if you do google searches that most of the people at the head of these companies work for the same companies over the years the one company gets into trouble for breaking the laws and harassing people and they close down or change names and all move to the new companies.  The man that ran/owed MCA

Don't get me wrong some companies need to have someone do the collecting for them but the people working for them are decent people not like the dirt bags that work for these companies.

Oh and your right these guys have nothing to do but search the internet looking for message boards like this so they can post as if someone is going to think they are all of a sudden human and pay a bill they don't owe.

Look guys im a collector for Visa. Yelling, hanging phones or telling them stop to pay wont make them stop calling you, in fact they are probably laughing at you after you hang up, trust me most are trollers. I do too sometimes troll the debtors who i know wont pay lol, but for fun. The easiest way to stop the calls is just send a written letter that you dont want phone calls and want it send by mail. or u can just make minimum arrangement. Its like 20$

By law: they can call once at ur work.
Call once per day. 6 times a week if you just ignore the phone.
But 3 times if the call was succeeded.

    Hope this helps you.
O and if you get a automated dialer calling you. Dont scream at the collector, bcuz he doesnt know who the [***] hes talkin why. while ur just yelling STOP CALLING ME.

I have had numerous letters from Global Credit & Collection Inc. concerning a debt I owe.  I finally called them and right away they offered me a settlement amount for less than I owed.  They also said they noticed I had another debt on file for a credit card and offered me a settlement of 60% but only if I paid the next day. Has anyone else dealt with them?  Should I pay them and if I do will my debts be cleared?
Very nervous and suspicious of this because it seemed too easy!

    Incredulous replies to mca
...and you wonder why people think you guys are fraudsters or scammers?

Unprofessional business practices abound in your industry. Not the least of which is harassment.

If you do a little rudimentary research you will find that these types of companies devote the vast majority of their resources to contacting the wrong people.

What's worse is that this is financed by the gullible people who are fooled into paying for a debt that has already been written off by the original lender.

No luck collecting any money? They will simply sell the debt again to a second tier or third tier or fourth tier collector. As such, provided the collector recoups the amount the bought the debt for...there was no harm in the effort.

This will continue for many years and many transfers. Seven years in theory....and *poof* it should all go away.

That is, assuming you actually owe something.

All the collection company employees are brainwashed into believing they are performing a righteous task, so explaining that there is no debt is typically a waste of time....in fact, since the collector is not really a "business partner" of the original lender, you will find they never have any access to your original account or records. They can't actually confirm any payments made to the original lender without you doing the legwork for them. Simply put, it makes no sense speaking to these people on the phone at all.

If you do make the mistake of entertaining their calls, encourage them to pursue legal action. (it's not cost effective so they never do). It is the only way they will be forced to do due diligence with respect to the debt. The onus will be on them to confirm the amount that they are requesting. Further, it will give you documents in-hand that you can research on your own time. (incidentally, a form letter with a font for a signature does not constitute a lawyer's letter)

I guess this industry will be dead soon...It's not too hard to google a phone number or organization name. Most people know what you guys are about long before they even consider picking up the phone.

Hi Lena, I was called by an agent from these guys and the number she gave me back was the 1-866-463-9161 number.  Are you saying this number is legit or not legit?  Im being stalked nailed for an outlandish amount.  Should I talk with these people or tell them off?  A few things don't seem to add up and the agent was really pushing for a good faith payment.  I'm leary because its for a student loan that I really got nailed to the boards with before.  The loan has been in default since 2000 and the last payment made was 2008 they say.  The loan has gone through a few collection agencies and the last one in 2008 told me that it had gone to court and sent me a copy of the court decision that didn't look very official.  Whats your take?  What should I do?  Negotiate or ignore?  Hopefully you get this message so you can verify or fill me in, thanks!

    Frustrated with Telus
Got a call from a very rude person from Metropolitan Credit Adjusters for my Outstanding Telus Account by the name of Ronique. Keep nagging me to pay this but would not listen to a single word that I had to say to her. In frustration I asked to speak to someone else and she told me someone. would call her back. This happened this last Friday an then I didn't hear from her at all. I called back on Sunday an left a message asking for someone to call me back as I did receive a letter from this company indicating my debt was placed in their office.

This morning I received a call from another agent Carl (1-866-463-9161 ext 6262) in response to my message. This guy was not only professional and polite but didn't once ask me to pay my bill. Instead he listened to what I had to say. I indicated that I paid this to Telus on my Visa towards the end of April. He asked if I had my statement had that charge on it. I checked my Online statement and for some reason didn't see the charge on there. I told him I was going to call Telus and try and figure this out.

Telus on the other hand were rude and flat out called me a liar saying that I didn't pay them. I did however get a receipt stating the transaction was approved so I hung up on them and called my bank. My bank told me that the payment didn't go thru at all.

I called Carl again and explained the situation and he was again patient to listen to what I had to say. He told me that he was going to ensure this didn't affect my credit as the file was not reported on my credit. I asked him how this agency works and he said that a file from Telus only gets reported if it remains unresolved with Metropolitan for 30 days from the day the file is received in their office. I asked him if he could lower the amount he said he could but then that would result in a settlement and would then get reported as a settlement on my Credit bureau and paying it off would be better as it would not be reported by them.

I called Equifax to check if this was reported against my credit by Metropolitan and was told they aren't on my Credit bureau and Telus reported this only as past due.

If you guys have an Issue with your Telus account maybe this would be the only agent that you would need to deal with

This link might help some people:

    http://bankruptcy-ontario.org/bankruptcy-in-o ... of-limitations/

    Summary:

Section 4 of the Ontario Limitations Act states that:

       4. Unless this Act provides otherwise, a proceeding shall not be commenced in respect of a claim after the second anniversary of the day on which the claim was discovered.

In simple terms, a creditor is required to commence legal action against you within two years. This two year period is generally acknowledged to be two years from the date you stopped making payments on the debt. If you defaulted on your debt before January 1, 2004 however, your creditor has 6 years to make a claim for payment.

    Polite
After numerous phone calls and automated messages not leaving the name of the party they wished to speak to, I called this number to ask who they wished to speak to.  They asked for my phone number and then told me they were looking for So and so.  Never heard of that person and I've had this phone number for 9 years.  I asked them to remove the phone number as it is disturbing my sleep (shift worker).  The individual was very polite and apologetic and said they would update their records and remove this phone number.  I'm just wondering how long it will be before the next call.  :).

People don't pay their bills because [***] happens! Nobody can afford to live these days and I don't deserve to be harassed on a daily basis for money I don't have..

And you don't have to pay them a penny if you don't want to.. They can sue all they like but the government are the only ones that can garnish your wages so as much as these [***] threaten you, that's all they can do.

I haven't filed for Bankruptcy protection because my debt is under 12k and I have enormous student debt that is new.  Bankruptcy won't touch me unless I can make a lumpsum deposit first.  No hope for me.

I desperately want to work with my original creditor, I have begged them to work with me.  They refused and have left me to the dogs of Met credit.  Down on big banks. CIBC sucks.
