- fundafighsSo, I get this call from the number which I obviously ignored. I check the area code and it's New Jersey. Now, why would I be getting a call from New Jersey when I live in California? Weird. The voicemail message explained that they were contacting me with a job description?? I sent a couple emails out to postings online for jobs and they couldn't tell me which one they were? That, definitely threw up a red flag for me. I thought it was weird too that they had called me on Christmas Eve!! Even the REAL creditors didn't even bother calling me today. I honestly believe that this is a scam and not worth giving a chance. Everything about it sounds wrong.
- now concerned -12/29/09Before reading these message, I got a call from a Indian woman for a job. The pay is good, and then she asked for the last 4# of ssn. Now I feel stupid for giving it to her. Oh god, please don't let this be a nighmare...
- Caller: artechinfo
- BEWAREThey kept asking for my S.S#. They are a scam. Do not give them any personal information. Do not give them your S.S#. I worked with other agencies and they did not ask for my S.S# over the phone. They do not need your S.S# to submit your resume to a company. This so called co. from India is a scam!!!!
- Caller: artech
- Ex-Contractor for Artech BEWARE!!!This company is a joke!!!!!!!! I worked for them and they LOST all my paperwork. They sent me a prepaid envelope and I sent it to them with all my stuff. I called and and they said they had it and then after being on my contract for 2 weeks they called me saying that they didn't have it. My SSN, DOB, copies of my DL and SS Card, address, etc were on these papers and they can't find it? Where's my stuff. Also the recruiters are NOT in NJ like they say they are, they are in India. They are liars and scam artists!
- jb-tiredI received the same email as many of you. I used to work for one of the "big 3" credit bureaus and I'm well-versed in identity theft. What a sham. They actually asked for my SSN over the phone to check my past history with another company. When I said that didn't make sense and I could not provide it, they asked me to send it over email. How stupid do they think people are? This company should be shut down for being in violation of fair business practices and consumer protection laws. They're walking on dangerous ground and I wonder where and how the info they obtain is really being used.

- 15 year contractorI the 15 years that I have done contract work, switching jobs regularly, it has never been the norm that any legitimate and professional contracting company asks for any part of my social security number until such time as my proof of eligibility is needed to complete an offer on the table from a prospective client.
There are numerous articles and comments all over the Internet right now about this company, and companies like it, which make a contact based on a resume they find somewhere and how they gather entirely too much personal information on the first contact.
Ask yourself: In this current job market, does it seem reasonable to you that they need to track you down because you are one of the only people they can find to fit the role they are representing? How is it that a company located out of State, or even out of Country, has contract opportunities available for these major tech companies when the local companies with offices in the same city as the client and who have had decades of excellent vendor relations don't have these job listings and are not shopping for qualified contractors out of the local pool? Lastly, ask yourself: In this economy and at this time, are you comfortable with supporting either an out-of-State or possibly foreign company by letting them make a percentage off of your contract instead of that same money going to a more local company that provides HR / Agency jobs somewhere nearby?- Caller: Artech
- Deb| 1 replyThis company works with other third party employment agencies to fill positions in the telecommunications field. They claimed to have a position in my area for a Verizon sales rep. I have had one telephone interview and have not been contacted again. I was told to NOT contact the local Verizon store although I was given the location. The location is legit. I am planning on dropping in at that location to get the lowdown on these people.

- Robert| 2 repliesGlad I googled and did reverse phone lookup. I work in sales and Indians are by far the cheapest people on the face of the earth. They ask a million questions and make you think they are going to buy. But, than they use the Hispanic I am leaving excuse "I will be back tomorrow" I went to a retailer that sells electronic goods. I wanted to purchase a camcorder. When I got to the department all the sales associates were tied up with Indian customer asking them questions. Its sad when you are a paying customer and they are just in there taking up other peoples time. Whenever I walk into a store I notice that Indian people are the only ones walking out with bags in their hands. Why should their business practice be anything different than their purchasing practices. Next time you are in an area that is prodominately Indian check out their stores. They know how they are so they have to list everything 70% off. Most of them here make 6 figure incomes but are always looking for the cheapest thing you have.
- johngoner replies to Stefanie| 1 replyI don't mean to be rude, but if you can say "they are just a temp agency", then you've lived a charmed life. A significant portion of the population has worked for an agency and not just b/c they have a criminal record or can't hold down a real job. As a hiring manager, you should know that the majority of job candidates probably aren't a fit (skills, personal preferences, etc) for a lot of the positions you hire for.
While I can't speak to the quality of Artech, I know that collecting data (SSN and DOB) is necessary to run a background check. That said, most recruiters I know wouldn't demand it until after an offer is made. But that's usually dictated by company policy. Try asking your own HR their policy on collecting info. Sometimes it's through their online job posting. I've seen several major US companies that won't accept a resume without a social. You'd be hard-pressed to find a legit company that DOESN'T ask for your social by the end of your first interview. - maccat55| 2 repliesI got a call from a women with an accent from India saying she was with Artech Information Systems and it was about a job I had applied for with AT&T. I thought it was a legitimate follow up by an outsourcing recruiting company. Unfortunately, she asked for my ssn which I foolishly gave her. (I usually go online and check out things before going that far.) I should have been more wary. The call came at night around 9:30 pm. She sent me an email requesting my resume and references which I also sent her. Now I'm scared of the whole thing.
