999-999-9999

I just got a call from here and when I tried to call it back, it said it was not a working number.  Weird.  I see urban legends say it's the call of death..day before Halloween too.  Creepy!

Received a call from 999-999-9999 @5pm on a Saturday afternoon. Husband picked up, then asked for me...said he was a recruiter (I'm currently looking for a new job and have been getting lots of calls and emails from agencies) but wouldn't leave a message. Is this number used to hide the return number of the caller?

Got a call from 999-999-9999.  It was a congressman from Utah reminding me to vote in the election.

I received a 9 call and the name was sun loan company, when I picked up to tell them to stop calling, no one answered and I swore, god damn it, this voice respondes, did you know that god did not damn it and started talking about something religious, I'm an atheist and told him so and said, stop calling me, they did

I had a missed call then a voicemail (presumably from the same phone call).

Apparently, this numner, 999-999-9999 is a way to hide the actual source of the call. It could be *anyone* and it doesn't necessarily mean it's legitimate or illegitimate. Bill collectors, political groups, non-profit groups and others, will use this as a way of masking the actual origin of the call. With more people working from home, this number is effective in reducing the amounts of call-backs that aren't friendly. I just ignore them and let the machine answer.

This morning I received a call from this number and did not answer. I usually do not answer calls with first, "Unknown Caller," "Private Number," or "Out of Area" as the name, and without a number I do not recognize. They did not leave a message. This was, of course, NOT a political call. It was either a bill collector (on something I am currently already making payments on), or a non-profit group, as I am on the DO NOT CALL list.

if you like me and they call your cell phone there goes your minute's my husband got hit by this number 35 time anywhere from 1 min to 7 min that adds up and up goes the cell bill

This number just shows up on one cell phone out of the five on our account.

freaky... my girlfriend and I were talking about a close friend of mine that was murdered last year. We were speaking of missing her and of the pain her children must be going through as they face all the 1st's this year without their mother. b-days, halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas. It was a tough subject for us to speak of. Tears were in the room. Just in the middle of our talk my cell phone rang with 999-999-9999. As I reached to pick it up and see the number..... the phone stops ringing. I call the number back and a answering service says... "there is no route for this number". Chills fill my body and we are freaking out. I google the number and find the call of death first on the list...wow...  To end the drama and make the long story short... 30 min's later call again from same number. its Waste Management to remind us trash service is 1 day behind... but had me going for a while full of chills.. lol Happy Turkey day to you all

This number keeps calling my cell phone (very annoying). Sometimes they will not pick up, others I get a person offering some kind of sweepstakes and although I have repeatedly asked them to remove me from the list, they keep calling!!!

Same here, and I am in Canada (not the US).  I am getting very angry, I wish I could block the calls!

i have recieved this call twice today in the span of 2 hours, they hang up before i can answer the phone. same number 999-999-9999, its not so freaky to me more or less just makin me mad.

God damn nonconfederate telemarketers, takin up all our jobs and wasting up all of our cell phone minutes!

Not sure of the legality, but was finally able to trace the "999-999-9999" number back to Nuance Software (www.nuance.com). Its their sales dept - and I was getting these mysterious calls for the past 2-3 weeks. No messages, no one online. Finally got a message today and was able to ID them. They have some great products (PaperPort, OmniPage, Dragon Naturally Speaking, etc.) but I told them they just lost a sale using this tactic to conceal their phone number. I own some of their software, so I am probably considered someone with an "established relationship" and therefore legal

If you recieve a call from someone who hits *67 prior to the # all 9's appear on your bill and caller id will show restrictrd or unavailable

1-19-09 rec call from 999-999-9999 no idea who this is

Received a call yesterday from 999-999-9999 and I didn't pick it up.  Curiosity arose and I called the number back and it was 911 emergency.

This call came Jan.20, 2009. I didn't pick and no message was left.   We have no business with Sun Loan Company.
