They must be doing the rounds tonight Anna!

Landline rang this evening at 19:32- when I answered the line went dead. Rang 1471 and got the number 01138- which isn't a number you can ring back or anything.

We're registered with TPS and Silent Call... hope we don't get more of them!

Had this number call us about 8 times today since 2.30 in the afternoon.  What a pain in the backside!

We're calling BT now to see if it can be blocked.

I have just had a phone call from the same number, picked it up and line went dead. Pointless!. Maybe it IS a premium number and they are hoping people will call them back. Why else would they do it?.

Really annoying whoever it is that keeps ringing.

This number, which I thought was incomplete until I googled and found this website, has been calling me all afternoon. And just like everyone else, as soon as I pick it up, the line goes dead. Very odd. Just in case they're doing the regional rounds, I'm based in South Wales.

Just had a call from this number which went dead after a couple of seconds.

Just had my 3rd call.. I happened to miss the first one as I was at work but on the second (about 20 minutes ago) they asked for a 'mrs savage' I told the lady she had the wrong number and she wittered on about some charity so I hung up.I just didn't bothered answering the 3rd call as I thought it may be them.. good old 1471 :)

Called me , knowing my name already and asked if I would participate in simple Yes/No Survey.
I replied " Not atthis  time of night" and they promptly hung up without apology, etc
Sounded like a Co called SMS or similar

Phone rang but no one there.

Got a call from 01138 about 10 mins ago.  I've had about 4 calls a week for over 2 months where the phone just goes dead & the number is withheld.  This is the 1st time I've got a number through 1471.  Also TPS & Talk Talk.  I'm actually relieved now I've googled number & know other people have had this too - I thought I had some weird stalker!  Don't want to have to pay to block calls.

GRR! STILL keep ringing me.. I answered a min ago and they wouldn't speak so just left the phone off the hook.. they're bill not mine! I've asked them nicely enough to bugger off.. next time they ring I won't be so polite >:-(!

Just rang me at 21.15, this is call number four, each time line dead.  Rang bt nuisance calls and told nothing can do as not real number and from india.  Finding it disturbing as have mental illness and even though I know these sorts of companies call, I cant switch off from the fact I dont know who it is and its making me ill.

I dont know why as in peole like me bt cant block all international calls, I mean I dont use or expect them, so it would stop the problem, but they wont help me.

Like so many of the people who have commented before, I just had the phone ringing constantly and when I answered they hung up.  Hope they don't start calling a lot like other poor posters have experienced.  Extremely strange that they are hanging up on every phone call.  Don't see how there could be any purpose in it but i'm sure someone knows.  We are with virgin media so I wonder if this has any relevance.

Just had a call from this number asking to speak to me knowing my name and asking me to take part in a survey, I told them I was ex-directory and how did they get my number, when asking them to take me off their list they put the phone down, interesting that I have read a comment about only starting to get these calls since AOL have teamed up with Talk-Talk well AOL will be loosing me as a customer if this keeps happening, and also not happy with their internet connection lately.

Well it runs into 2010. Same thing , they just hang up as soon as I said hello.

Just to say that I am neither with Talk Talk or AOL (I am with BT and my email account is with yahoo)so I don't think that this is related to them (previous posting).

Just had a call from 01138 which hung up when I answered.  My daughter answered one doing 'market research' on Boxing Day. She said she was not interested and they hung up. They asked for her by name which is slightly worrying as she has never been in the phone book, and has not been on the electoral register at this address for some time. Maybe they have got hold of out of date electoral registers which would explain the focus on a particular area at a time?   Someone posted in the summer mentioning being able to choose the ring tone for particular numbers - sounds like a good move to me.

We receive this number all the time, and I think it is the phone company's responsibility to block these numbers at the exchange. It's already been said that they can block these numbers !IF YOU PAY! Is this some kind of legal fiddle? these are public nuisance calls and an invasion of your privacy. Surely this could be a police issue? The company who sells these numbers will know who they are? We have a caller id and now leave it ringing until it stops, I wish everyone could do the same?

I just got a 1138 call. The guy asked if that was **** ****? i said yes and it went dead.
