Had the same as the rest of you. this number called me and left a message with a member of my family saying it was important and they would call me back in 30mins.

As my business banks with barclays I rushed home, expecting the 'barclays' member of staff to contact me back....but after 45mins I had no call back.

I have now contacted Barclays and Barclays Business, but both state they do not know this number. Id be happier if the stupid employees of this comapny would actually state where they are calling from. They have just wasted my evening for nothing.

I believe the number is from a company trying to sell extended warranty on your sky digital box

I also can confirm that 01273384548 & 08001218141 are the same number (the 0800 one calls me 5 times a day, but didn't hang up, and left a voicemail, which came up as 01273...). It appears to be Barclays, going by the other comments. My wife and I both bank with them, but there's no reason they should be "after us", so from now on I'm just answering and hanging up. They'll ge the message.

I have been getting calls as well but the person at the end of the line never says anything; instead s/he just put down the phone. I got my first call last night and after saying hello nearly 6 times, s/he hung up. i dont have a bank account with barclays though so i dont know how these people get my number.

Yes its Barclays selling accident cover - or at least that's who the bloke said her was from.  I asked him to put info in post and was not asked for any personal detials, so if the stuff shows up I will know it was above board.

Been having missed calls from the 0800 number others have stated; today this 01273 called and I answered and it is Sky attempting to get me to buy extended warranty for my new Sky package. I told them I wasnt interested and the were very polite and ended the call.

It may appear to be Barclays, but is it? Based on another persons comments here on this site it appears that way as they said phoning the number got them through to an ansaphone saying "this is Barclays".  But, on the other hand, another person here says she knew people who lost money to the callers.  So is it Barclays a scam? A con to get peoples bank details?

But if it is not Barclays how do they get our phone numbers in the first place (randomly generated, or someone got access to a set of mailing lists from their workplace? Mailing lists are used by market researchers who often employ temporary staff to make calls on their behalf, so all a temporary worker needs is a photocopier after all and they take the list home).

Has anyone actually checked with Barclays? If it is really Barclays, shame on them.

re 08001218141: guy claiming to be barclays - didn't sound very professional to me. i do have an account with barclays but when i opened it i stipulated in writing not to receive marketing calls. (and never have until now.) if this number rings you, i suggest you go into your local branch and check with them whether it was legit. if it is, it's a poor tactic. if it's not, i'm sure barclays would want to know they are being impersonated and customer details used.

I was getting calls from the 0800 number last week, now I seem to be getting the brighton number instead, the annoying thing is I live in brighton and I thought it was someone genuine.
I do remember talking to them a while ago (again on a brighton number) and telling them not to contact me again. I guess they think they are above the law, I really should start recording these calls.

    I love this site btw.

I had a missed call, and it showed as the Hove number in txt form for me too. All I can say is when and/or if they call again and I answer it I am going to inform them I believe this to be a phish scam and next time I'm in Barclays I will give them the Hove number.

DON'T DO ANYTHING OVER THE PHONE! IT IS ILLEGAL FOR ANY COMPANY TO ACQUIRE PERSONAL OR BANKING CODE DATA WITHOUT FACE TO FACE ID RECOGNITION FIRST.

Please be careful with your money.

From what I see it seems a mix of Sky and Barclay's calls, one reason could be:

    - Same call centre, hence a building number from hove, but an individual 0800 diect.

Of course, this is actually probably a scam, I want to know how they got our numbers???!!!

I'm sorry for everyone's discomfort! Now it's annoying me too. [***].

    Guys

I work for the fraud department in one of the big banks (not Barclays) I received the call today and like all of you appear to get that annoying engaged tone when trying to call back. There are company's out there who operate call centres only and work for all different organisations cold calling out for them. I reckon this will be one company who has been employed by both Sky and Barclays to call out on there behalf to sell there products.

If you ever receive a call from someone claiming to be your bank they should already have your bank / credit card details in front of them so should not need to take this from, unfortunately due to data protection the bank would still need to verify you are who you say you are but should never ask you for your full details I.E. your full date of birth, your full mothers maiden name etc etc they should only ever ask you for bits of your security I.E. the month in which you were born, the first 2 letters of your mothers maiden name.

It is entirely your decision if you want to give this security out and if you are unsure call the number on the back of your credit / debit card which you know will be correct and then you can confimr with your bank if the call was gnuine or not.

Hope this helps and I agree with the person above, look after your money.

a few missed calls from 01273384548 finally answered today and they said it was sky protect trying to sell there protection plan as the company i was with apparently had gone into liquidation. only problem being they said they were sky them selves but thats who i had my plan with. suspect big con dont hand over any details. i also found out like others through some investigating the company again is from brighton. seems strange this dodgy number is selling lots of different products
