    Just say no
Well after reading all these comments I have no idea why Ipsos would want to ask any of you for your worthless opinions. So petty and small minded that you are upset by genuine market research calls. These people are not trying to sell you anything. If you dont want to help then just say no. I am TPS registered and Ex directory and I never get calls from sales or MR. I guess the gods have decided that pathetic narrow minded fools deserve to be phoned by Ipsos. Perhaps if you took the time to listen you would find out what they want. You never know it might be about local issues or planned changes in your area or something useful.  The only sensible comments on this site are from the actual researchers. I hope they keep phoning you so much that your tiny little minds explode.

I am registered with TPS and fully ex-directory - they said they are exempt from such regulations.  Not to me they're not!  They phoned (on Sunday) in the middle of the Centotaph Service of Remembrance, just before the 2 minutes silence.

Unfortunately they were telling the truth.     TPS is exclusively in regard to Sales call originating in the UK.   Calls for other reasons are not included.

With shops and other services now open on Sundays it is increasingly like any other day.

Thanks for that "Old Mother Riley".  By what right do they cold-call an ex-directory number?  I thought that was illegal.  Why do they believe TPS users will be happy to co-operate just because they say they are not selling anything?  Many sales pitches start just like that.  I pay for my telephone and I want complete control over who uses it.

It is not illegal to call an XD number.    All that means is that your number does not appear in the Telephone Directory - no more, no less !!    As researchers they don't even have to bother checking dialed numbers against TPS records.  They simply call any number that gets up their kilt (well  0131 is Edinburgh after all)
I found the best way to stop them was to establish the Company identity for certain then use the internet to obtain their various Directors' home phone numbers.   A couple of calls to them soon saw my number no longer being phoned.  It takes a bit of time and effort, but it is well worth it.

"Old Mother Riley" - If that worked for you, how about posting the most effective phone numbers here?  Judging by the length of this thread (this is page 18!) a lot of people stand to benefit from your research.  The thread shows various ways of stopping the calls, but I feel, very strongly, it should be possible to opt out of such calls completely.  How about a petition on the PM's web site?

    A Daily Mail reader
I was called by this number earlier today. I was working in the garden and missed it. I dialled 1471 and found this number. I called it back because my daughter lives in Edinburgh and I heard a recorded message. I went back to the garden and the number called again about an hour later. Unfortunately by the time I made it back in I missed the call. Then, after googling the number, I found this page.

What a lot of nonsense the comments on here are. Why would I want to email the directors of the company or call them at home? My respects go to Ipsosausages, Chris Robin and the IPSOS employee for stating the case for their company in plain language. I googled IPSOS after this and found out they are the same company who do the MORI polls. All harmless stuff really is it not?

The number called me about an hour after I had checked them out. The Scottish girl on the phone (I think she was called Lauren) was polite and told me she was doing some research about the amount of sport people took part in. Having my computer on next to the phone allowed me to check out Sport England's website where this research was mentioned on their page. I had ten minutes free so answered the girls questions. She was polite, friendly and very professional. I answered her questions, she said thanks a lot for giving us your time and I hung up. If I had not wanted to take part I would have just said so. But, as I'm retired, I had ten minutes free and did not mind doing it. It was all fine.

I really fail to see what the hyperbole on here over this company is. You would think they were trying to extort your life savings from you the way some of you behave.

I pity some of you on here, I really do. Personally I have much more important issues in my life to devote my anger to than a market research company.

Oh, and to IpsosSausages - I read the Daily Mail every day and I agree with your comments. Perhaps you can change your mind on Daily Mail readers?

A nuisance call is a nuisance call and people must be able to opt out.  The Daily Mail reader above was called in twice from the garden and missed the call both times. Can you imagine getting out of the bath soaking wet twice? Or getting down from trying to paper the ceiling twice?  However nice they are (and I'm not trying to put them out of business), there has got to be a way of opting out.  They're not going to get my views on anything - except nuisance calls - even if they do by-pass the TPS and my ex-directory staus.

I agree with Jock.  To me, unsolicited market research calls are as much of a nuisance as ordinary marketing calls.  Like him, I want the right to opt out.

It looks as though IPSOS-MORI keep a close eye on these posts (18 pages!) so perhaps they'll modify their ways.

Readers may be interested to learn we are not alone - an e-petition has recently popped up on the number10.gov.uk web site.

I have subscribed to BT's "Choose To Refuse" service and completely agree with Jock- unwanted phone calls like this are just a very annoying nuisance and an invasion of privacy.

Ive only had my landline for about 2 month's and have for the past few weeks been harassed by this company. Surely the first few times I said "NO" they would get the message? I don't care who you are what you're researching, if i wanted to i would get in contact with you. Most of the time i don't think the person even cares what I think, they certainly don't give me a good enough reason to what there doing, where theve got my number or why there calling me every day.

I've just had a restless night because of this stupid number. Every twenty minutes or so i had a single ring on the phone from this number. 47 in all. Now had it blocked.

Dennis, Hannah - see Jaqui's note above.  As you obviously feel strongly, why not sign the petition?  I believe "silent calls" are illegal, irrespective of issues like XD and TPS.
