Sooner we can prosecute morons like you for being abusive/blowing whistles etc down the phone the better. We get no support from managers for dealing with aggressive scum like yourself. Instead we just have to be content with writing your number down and taking it away for further use when our time at the company is over...

If we get calls we don't recognise we just don't answer, if it's important they'll leave a message (then we can pick up if we choose to)
I'm with you, I don't give my info to anyone I don't choose to..

Called me today Sunday at 12 noon. was in the bath so didnt answer. Just did 1471 to get number and found this thread. I have no interest whatsoever in speaking to them. I find best thing with these companies is just put phone to one side and let them rabbit their spiel until they realise they are talking to no one

Had  this number call at 17:30 on a peaceful Sunday and the number appeared on caller ID and didn't recognise but answered as I was expected some returned calls.

I heard someone speaking and when I said "hello" he hung up on me. Number is now barred from ever calling again. Also read that they may call if you answer surveys, the only recent one I did was for an small ISP, and a competition and ticked the box that stated my basic info would only be used for the purpose of the draw, maybe just a coincidence?

Ipsos Mori are nice. I wouldn't normally recommend you answer questions but these people are trustworthy and definitely won't sell your details on.

Well looks like they're still at it. Got a phone call from them today. Seeming as my phone was upstairs I couldn't answer it but as soon as I looked at my phone I googled the number and luckily this forum came up telling me exactly what it is. So thank you for that. We need to stop these calls.

I don't care who you are, you are wasting my time which means you are costing me money. I don't care whether it's legit or not, if I haven't asked to to call me then don't. If I do answer you will not get a polite response. My number is for my business only, wasting time dealing with you, or anyone like you means I could be missing business.

Now I have informed you of this, I will also inform you that I charge £35 per call-out, any calls you make will be classed as call-outs and I WILL send you the bill.

The TPS makes it clear that telephone canvassing for a SALES or MARKETING call is disallowed- by law. Market RESEARCH canvassing by companies such as Ipsos-Mori are NOT debarred from the  TPS- those telephone customers who subscribe to TPS are as likely to be included in a market research survey as anyone else- indeed - if they were to be excluded from Market research canvassing, this would constitute an unnecessary and unwelcome source of bias, and thus might skew the results of a randomly applied survey. SO if you are on the TPS, you may still receive calls from Ipsos Mori , as they are not selling or marketing anything, i.e. cold calling for sales.

    Priesty replies to Ian Black
Dear Ian Black, for your information there is no conspiracy involved. Ipsos MORI use a method of obtaining phone numbers called Random Digit Dialling, where an STD code and the first four digits of sets of numbers from a local area (these are freely available and in the public domain) are randomly assigned two more digits to make up the number.  So your ex-directory number comes up by accidental chance only - no other reason.

FYI many of these essentially made-up numbers don't exist. To get round this the randomly produced numbers are then dialled using a device called an auotdialler, which recognises and filters out unobtainable numbers, only allowing good numbers to be put through to an interviewer. This increases productivity in the call centre and therefore allows companies to continue to provide both important local jobs and information on what people really think to organisations (including local and central government) who need to know this information in order to try to provide a better service or products to their voters/customers. That's you, by the way.

As has been mentioned on any number of these posts: if you get called by market research companies - who, remember, only want your opinion - and you don't want to take part, then just tell them so and ask for your number to be removed from their database. Any MR company that follows industry practice will be happy to do this and apologise for disturbing you.
