    Hi

Its quite simple, every time you apply for anything - credit, gas supplier, mortgage, catalogue, phone company etc you have to give your number out and in the small print it states they will give you number to selected 'third party' etc etc etc.

This means that YOU give consent to them ringing you, thereby bypassing TPS.

Annoying yes it is, but illegal it is not.

Report it to TPS itself - that is what they are for.

Ignorance is bliss. Once again: Market Research is not covered by the TPS, so anyone taking your advice would be wasting their time. If you had bothered to read previous entries you would have known this.

Anyone clicking on the above links would have to be really stupid - oh, wait, we're taking about people who can't even grasp the simple truth that market research is entirely legal, legitimate and above board, and that they are free not to take part if they choose not to do so, just by saying "no thanks, and please don't ring me again".

They also fail to understand that market research is EXEMPT from the TPS because it provides a USEFUL SERVICE, i.e. the opportunity to voice opinions on subjects varying from how much money the government should spent on the NHS, to what pictures they want to see on their cans of Diamond White. What is depressing is that no matter how many times this is pointed out, some of these people just don't want to listen because they are too busy wallowing in their outrage that someone has had the effrontery to telephone them to politely ask for their opinion.

Had the first call from this number yesterday (24/7/15) and as it's market research, I know they're exempt from TPS. I politely said no thanks & would you mind not ringing again. The lady I spoke to said they would delete my number. Today I've had 4 calls. I accept that market research doesn't sell anything & that it's a service allowing me to voice my opinion, but it's still a nuisance.

From what I have read on various numbers relating to Market Research calls, there is a simple reason you are still getting calls.  Teams of researchers work on different surveys.  The lady who rang you will have removed your details from the survey she was doing, but that does not stop calls from other researchers doing the other surveys.  Apparently to stop all calls from MR companies you have to contact them via their websites and ask them to remove your data from ALL their data bases.

You need to contact them and ask to be put on their Do Not Contact database, if you simply ask them to remove your number from a list then it can be put back there or randomly generated again.

Ironically it would be illegal for Ipsos Mori to have access to the TPS database.

No, the numbers are randomly generated. They don't have to respect the TPS because they aren't selling anything, just researching. If they took out all TPS registered numbers they wouldn't have an unbiased sample of people from whom they can collect opinons.

Pestered by this company--no idea where they got my number from.  There should be a simple service whereby the recipient of an unwanted call can input that number to the service and it automatically blocks ever calling the recipient again--instead of having to register with the TPS and then finding out that they 'don't cover market research calls'.  Surely the phone companies (BT, EE, Vodafone, etc) can develop a system wherby each and every customer can simply enter the spurious caller's number---and it permenantly blocks it.  Why is this not provided--I pay the bill for my phone---I do not want unwanted calls.
