Person mentioning Walking for Health survey has solved a mystery for me on these Ipso Mori geezers: Walking for Health is a not for profit honest, reputable national group of NHS healthworkers and walkleaders who get isolated poeple out walking in groups in attractive green urban areas. (I've volunteered as a walkleader for them for 6 years.) Yes it is a quango, but IpsosMori were probably paid to find out who uses the Walking for Health programme. I now recall being asked about my walking activities by quango Natural England, just a bunch of civil servants trying to get people out enjoying the countryside safely. So not all surveys are dodgy, they may be tailored, thanks for solving my mystery caller issue.

01313012940 have called me at least 10 times. I don't answer calls from numbers I don't recognise. They do not leave a message. They are doing my head in.

David - all you need to do is pick up and say "Sorry, I do not want to take part". The person at MORI will then code your number as not wishing to take part and you won't be called again for that particular project.

It may be that somewhere down the line you get another call from a different survey if your number has been randomly generated again. If you want to never, ever, ever be contacted by the company again you need just say "I never wish to be recontacted by your company again". Then stay on the line for another minute or so whilst a supervisor checks and records any numbers you do not want called again. Within 24 hours they'll be on the database and you will never, ever, ever get called again.

As to people stating about named leads. This is usually where your details have been given to us by another organisation. For instance, say your insurance company want to conduct a survey to judge how well it is doing and what customers think of it - so they get MORI to do draw up a survey and give them the details of some customers to telephone. This is a matter for your insurance company - probably a tickbox somewhere.

A general note. If you don't want to take part, just say "Sorry, I don't want to take part". Maybe the operator will ask why, but if you don't want to do it you'll be recorded as such. Then you'll not get called again on that project (after all - think of it from MORI's perspective - why call someone who has indicated they don't want to take part? It's not like they're suddenly going to decide they want to do the survey.).
If you just say "sorry, I'm busy" or "I'm having my tea", we'll assume that you are busy or are having your tea and call back another time.
If you say "sorry, my house has just caught fire, but I'll do the survey another day if you call back" *every single time we call* we will call you back (YES - this has happened).
If you fancy ranting about the TPS, please get your facts right before you begin. TPS covers sales calls only.
If you fancy ranting that you're ex-directory, look at the name. "Ex directory" means "not in the phone book". Anyone can go to their phone, bash in some arbitrary numbers and hey presto get through to a human. That's what we do.

its pointless what system your on to stop these annoying harrassments,as you provide your phone number to both websites you pay to or companies you do business with (your energy supplier e.g.)
whom are in the business of making $$ so they sell all your information.
Including from tesco's clubcard(big brother) on what your favourite toilet paper is & what size tampons you buy.

There is no privacy..Blame a generation of Labor government who did nothing to legislate.
I suggest everyone bombard their mp's to get it stopped.
But they may just follow normal practice and dissregard anything the "Voting" public needs, waqnts they only come for your vote, promise you the earth then give you the finger, take all your money & give it to thier BANKER friends.

Guys - please read the posts that I (and others) have put up. Generally, numbers are randomly generated. Try it yourself - pick up the phone, press eleven buttons randomly, and see what you get. Repeat ad infinitum. This, fundamentally, is what MORI do.

If you don't want to take part say so, and if you don't want to be called back ever again say so. One minute of your time and bang goes the problem.

At least 2 calls a day for over a week.   I eventually answered, asked not to be contacted again and said that I wasn't interested in their calls.  Two days later calls resumed.  I AGAIN asked them not to call me AND sent an email.  A week later...........back to square one!  I answered one call and pointed out that I had repeatedly asked not to be contacted, and that I was in fact on my way out to a funeral, to which the operator replied  ".....well this won't take very long.....!"

So DON'T tell ME they will go away if you ask therm to.  It simply isn't the case.

Finally..... I am NOT ill-informed, NOR ignorant, NOR a whinger! ;-)

    resolved (hopefully)
I had been recieving missed calls from this number all times of the day and up to 5 times a day.
I finally managed to catch one and having read previous posts on here explained to the very polite man on the other end of the phone that I would like to be removed from their calling list for this and all other survays, he explained that I should have recieved a letter saying they would call and why with an opportunity to opt out.
Unfortunately I hadn't recieved this letter, confirmed this and said I still wanted to be removed.
He said that was fine, he would need to get his supervisor to do that and would I mind waiting. I said not a problem and seconds later he supervisor came on the line and said I just need to confirm you want this number to be removed from this and future lists. I said yes. He confirmed my number would be blocked from their future ilstings and thanked me for my time.

All in all a painless experience and I would urge anyone else recieving these calls and not answering them in the hope they'll go away to speak to the people calling and just tell them.
Fingers crossed this will be it as if I'm called again I will be putting something in writing - but I will not be having a go at the person on the other end of the line as (having worked in a call center myself, I know) it is not their fault

Just answered a call from this number, the person was very polite and asked if I had time to conduct a survey, I said no, and they asked if they can contact me another time, again I said no, and the person apologised for taking up my time and said they wouldn't call again.

This is very rare and if they stick to their word, then I reckon this is one of the better companies. If they do call again, I will update this post.

Quite agree that's it's completely unfair to shout at, or play tricks on, the employees who make these calls. But I think the company is partly to blame for this, by generating automatic calls to the same phone numbers so frequently. I work at home and often can't pick up because I have someone with me, and it is very annoying to keep finding the same numbers on 1471, and having to google to find out what they are rather than being left a proper message. And extremely annoying being woken up early at the weekend by them.

Maybe using automatically generated phone calls just doesn't work for serious companies like Mori, who I agree do a useful job, because we get so many rubbish calls from other places, such as all the automated calls from America pretending we've won holidays, that many of us have lost our patience and tolerance.
