Market Research is conducted by many reputable companies and organisations, including your very own government. Research is done on a wide range of subjects and they phone you because they want to ask your opinion so that they can get an idea of what people actually want from a product or service. For this reason market research is exempt from the Telephone Preference Service.

The people who phone you are paid relatively little and deserve a bit more respect than they're being given here. If you object to being called you can just say that you don't want to take part and you will then be left alone. Sometimes it takes a while to get numbers out of the system, so you may get another call. If this happens you can contact nice people like Alex Thomson, who will go out of their way to be helpful and make sure it doesn't happen again.

This may come as a surprise to you , but  I and the other people calling you am not in the least bit interested in your "personal and private" life.  We are collecting data to enable organisations to make your life better.  Any improvements need research behind them.

If we  are "thick" because we pick phone numbers out at random during the sampling process (there are  good scientific reasons for doing this), then maybe you should get yourself a job at isosMORI showing them the "intelligent" way to do it?

    Have a nice Christmas,

    Alan

I've started Governent e-petition to see if we can get market researchers to abide by the TPS database.

At the time of writing the petition is being checked, but hopefully it will be accepted soon and then you can all sign it.

I don't really see using the TPS database would affect the results of any research - after all there must be millions of people not register with the TPS whom they can call

Don't hold your breath, mate - market research will never be subject to the TPS because it provides a valuable service. Like I said before, if you don't want to take part, just say "no thanks" and you will be left alone. Minus an opinion, of course.

Just had a call from these IPSOS MORI asking about the maintenance of my Seat...  I explained I've never owned a Seat and the woman said "Oh, sorry, I meant Skoda" I've never owned one of those either...  Where do they get their information??  Phishing I guess...

8pm on a Friday when you're trying to get your two sick children to sleep some tw*t phones you up asking you about cars you've never owned... Thanks, really appreciated.

As for Alan - I hope you're proud of yourself for being a pest and annoying so many people.  Does it make you feel big and clever and all fuzzy inside?  Ever thought about not being a loser in a dead end sh*tty job and maybe trying to do something worthwhile instead?  Just a thought...

Sick and tired of the calls from this number on my mobile, day and night over and over. I hit the reject button every time. The one vital app that I will look for on my next phone will be a 'block number' with enough space to list at least 20 .....

This number called me at 19.14 on Tuesday night (17.01.2011). I didn't answer because I was otherwise engaged, but I am somewhat annoyed since, although they are a commercial organisation, they are evidently exempt from TPS restrictions. In the event that I do answer I will be curt, dismissive and end the call swiftly.

    Hi all,
This number has called me 5 times today, I looked on here and found it was Mori. Next time they rang I answered and before the guy could launch into the chat I said " I WANT TO BE REMOVED FROM YOUR LIST" He put me through to a supervisor who assured me my number (ex directory) would be removed and I wouldn't be called again. We'll see! Worth a try though.
