Kayar, you really should check your facts before making statements that are so wide of the truth.

1) For your information there is not now and has never been technology to avoid ex-directory numbers when generating numbers using Random Digit Dialling - the key is in the word "random". There's no "conflict of conscience" because no industry rules or national laws are being broken.

2) You have NOT expressed a preference not to be contacted by unsolicited calls when registering with the TPS. If you had bothered to read the conditions that you were signing up for you would have seen that market research is implicitly NOT covered by the TPS, and for a very good reason: to do so would deny people the right to have an opinion, which, to judge by your opinionated postings to this site, is something you seem very keen on upholding.

3) You implied that "these companies" (by that I take it you mean well-known and highly respected  market research organisations) will NOT leave you alone if you politely ask to be added to their 'do not call' list. This is absolutely not true - all legitimate market research companies, including Ipsos MORI, sign up to both the industry MRS Code of Conduct and Ofcom regulations governing nuisance calls. These clearly state the process that companies have to follow, and penalties for transgressing can be severe. You can imagine, then, that every possible precaution is taken to uphold your rights.

If you really believe your rights have been so badly violated I challenge you to raise your case with either Ofcom or the MRS, or both. When they have investigated and found Ipsos MORI not to have broken any rules you can then exercise your right to come back here and apologise for your ignorant and inflammatory postings. I can't quite see it, though.

Rang me this evening at 20:48, didn't get a chance to answer. but had rang earlier today around 15:30 and it was silent then a tone sounded. think it's ridiculous that companies and organisations are allowed to do this. they don't think that maybe a person is already being weirded out by someone they do know. these calls have been going since the last few months that i was with Bt and haven't been with them since about august last year.

Called today at 8pm. Didn't answer it as I was busy.

I am fully aware that TPS, which at one time didn't even exist, has not yet evolved to the maturity where it allows people to stop market research companies from calling. I am also being plagued by false market research companies.

You are confusing the fact that something is legally permissable with it being socially acceptable.
Which is more likely people register with TPS because they want to stop nusance calls or because they only want to stop a sub-set of nuisance calls?

Somone may not want nuisace calls because they are disabled and cannot get to the phone quickly. They work shifts and don'y want to be woken, or they simply do not like them

I, for example,  work for myself and sometimes work on at night and take a nap during a day. I object to commercial companies of all kinds intruding into my privacy and waking me up!

Furthermore, and this is why I hope your boss sees this, your posting shows evidence of a cognitive deficit, a mental problem in processing information. You consistantly refer to authority and status in your posting. Ipsos Mori is is well respected. The government allows this behaviour etc.
Well there is abundant information about this kind of thought pattern in the scientific literature. It shows that it is associated with decreased intelligence. You may well have kissed your job or at least your next pay rise goodbye!.

This number called at 20.20.  Was busy so did not answer it.  Did not recognise number so googled it and was brought to this site.  Now I know what it is I will ignore it if I get called again.

0131301294 Called on Friday evening past 2 weeks and today. Phone doesn't ring and only left with missed calls from this random number.

Keep calling me every 3 days it seems i never picked up because i dont know who its from..so i googled it and this site came up. So now i see its people wasting my time..you can just add their number to reject list on your phone so it automatically rejects their calls..well hopefully :D
