They called while I was out asking for me by name and identified themselves as Ipsos Mori. According to their web site if you email telephone@ipsos-mori.com providing your contact telephone number they will stop calling you within two working days at most. See http://www.ipsos-mori.com/contactus/approachedbyus/telephone.aspx

When you contact them make sure you tell them to remove your details from ALL their data bases.  They have rung you for a particular survey and, unless you say ALL, another person may contact you when they are doing a different survey.  I did this, using ALL, about 18 months ago and have never had another call.  Also, if you are ver contacted by Kantar for a survey, and you contact them to remove your information, you need to say ALL their data bases for ALL their companies as they have about three different companies. This also works.  The only survey calls I get now are the fake ones from overseas and we can't do anything about those.

Fed up with this caller - they do not even tell the answer machine who they are so that we can make a choice.

Just to let you all know that I received a number of calls from this number and it was hugely irritating.  I found this thread and then I went to the IPSOS-MORI website where it informs you you can email them if you have any problems or complaints or if you wish to have your number removed from their system.   They claim it usually takes them around 24 hours to remove your number (which is certainly quicker than many sales agents).

The email address is telephone@ipsos-mori.com .   I simply put "please remove my number from your system" in the subject line.

I contacted them very late one night and they emailed back just after 9am the next morning apologizing and stating that they had removed my number from their system.

My number is TPS registered but as someone has already said, IPSOS-MORI are still legally allowed to call you.  However, I am also ex-directory and I have a permanent number withhold on all outgoing calls so I really have no idea how they even got my number in the first place.  However, I emailed them, they replied, and it took only a few hours for them to remove my number so I really would urge you to the same if you're troubled by calls from these people.

When you email, you MUST give the number that they are calling you on (ie your home number or wherever it is) in order for them to locate your number on their system, so don't forget to do that!

    I hope this helps someone.

This is as bad as cold calling on doorstep, esp as on TPS.

Market Research are exempt from TPS rules.  If you go to the Ipsos Mori website you cn use the "contact us" facility and tell them to remove your number from ALL their data bases.  This is important as different groups do different surveys and unless you say ALL someone else in a different group may ring you.  Have done this with all the Market Research companies which have rung and never get their calls now.

This number called me during the day this week, and then at 10am this morning...on a Sunday!!! Like others have said, they don't even leave a message. I'm on the TPS, and I always make sure I tick all the right boxes so I don't get any marketing etc. Grrrr!

Reverse the approach.  Sound interested but don't give them any information.  Keep them talking for as long as possible. Check their credentials. Call the person they asked for by name over.  Delay while you find a pencil.  The longer you keep them talking, the more power you have because the more time they have invested.  Put them on hold to take another call.  come back to say you are nearly fionished and will be back to them in a minute.

And then tell them that you were deliberately wasting their time, as you do to all junk callers on this number, and hang up.

This is the surest war to get your number blocked on their database.

I have 2 lines.  Occasionally you may get a second cold caller while you still have one on hold.  Then the best thing is to simply tell the first one that Fred (whoever they asked for) has just come in and here he is.  And connect the two (put the two handsets together) and leave them to it.  You definitely get bonus points for this.

I work for Ipsos Mori and I thought it would be interesting to see what the people we phone have to say about the awful company I work for.

I have to say, it didn't disappoint. As I suspected there are the usual ill informed plebs that you find on these sort of sites but on the whole just a bunch of angry people that (understandably) hate being phoned on Sundays etc. so as a result I have put together a handy list of dos and don'ts.

So, firstly, I would like to say that we at Ipsos Mori are underpaid, overworked and badly treated by our employer so spare a thought for us before you start screaming down the phone at us as we already know our jobs are cr*p, that we should go get lives and every expletive that you can think of (and by the way, none of them are unique when your calling hundreds of people a day so there's no point in trying to be clever). Also, its not illegal to phone you, x directory means you not in the phone book and that’s all and TPS doesn’t stop research calls so don’t bother even saying these things.

Secondly, (and this is the best bit of advice you will get from this site) you don’t want to  start screaming down the phone and swearing at us because otherwise the victim of your abuse will  make sure we phone you back at the worst possible time (think Sunday at 10:00 or 21:00 on a Monday night) and it will definitely be when the said market researcher is on a day off. The person your shouting at doesn’t care how many times you have been phoned or whether or not you are ill/sleeping/having dinner/watching telly. We don’t get paid by the survey so it makes no difference to us whether you want to take part or not. Remember, dont kick a girl when she's down or she will phone you back on Sunday!

Also, saying you don’t want us to call you again and hanging up immediately is useless. Granted we might not contact you for the survey we are currently doing but we will re-contact you for other surveys.

The best possible thing to do is wait till the market researcher has finished their speech and say the following words “I want to be  added to the do not re-contact list”. The Market Researcher will then have to go get their supervisor who will take a couple of details and you will have what you wanted all along - Ipsos Mori will never phone you again saving you all of you tirades of anger and venom for the next poor person who dares to phones you.

So remember the three rules for stopping these calls:

    DONT BE RUDE
    DONT HANGUP
SAY “I WANT TO BE ADDED TO THE DO NOT RECONTACT LIST”

This number has been calling me 2 or 3 times a day for a couple of weeks now.  I did answer the phone a couple of weeks ago - they wanted me take part in a survey. I declined and asked them to take my number off their call list, but they still persist.  Does anyone know how to stop them?

Called by this number in the last hour and I've no problems with it at all.

They announced they were from Ipsos MORI and I immediately said I'd rather not take the call.

The lady asked if it would be okay if they could call me another time, to which I replied "No, I'd prefer it if you didn't, thank you".

She said "Oh okay, thank you, goodbye".

What's the problem?  As has been said above by their own employees, they're not breaking any laws because TPS doesn't cover it - and they don't hide who they are.

Just do what most British people don't do - tell them you'd rather not take the call.  Be firm, but polite and courteous.  I really don't see what the big problem is!

We find that when people accept our products and services they are generally happier, therefore it is in everybody's best interest to just say 'yes'.
