I agree that guvnor's reply was unnecessary. I also think that it was equally unnecessary for you to call people names just because they don't agree with you. You still haven't got the point here...nobody but nobody wants to receive cold calls in the peace and privacy of their own homes, whether its marketing or market research, and I would argue with you that you do not have the right morally to disturb people in this way. It may be permitted at law at the moment, but it will inevitably change because market research cold calling is now becoming a public nuisance.

You're making assumptions again, and they're wrong - again. Thousands of people are perfectly happy to be called at home to be asked their opinions, as proved by countless completed opinion polls, many published in the national newspapers and shown on TV.

So your assertion that "nobody wants to receive cold calls" is demonstrably wrong. You have a personal axe to grind and it's blinding you to the fact that opinion polling has been accepted at every level for years and has become a necessary part of life - very far from being a "public nuisance" and certainly not immoral.

Everyone has the right to make their own mind up and is free either to take part in market research or to say no.  Many ordinary people do take part, by phone, every year, and are very happy to do so. Spreading untruths and misconceptions will not change that, no matter how hard you try.

No More Survey Sugging Calls replies to Market Researcher

You are again making a statement which has no hard data to substantiate it.

Yet again you are thinking about your own pockets and not ethics.

Market Researcher replies to No More Survey Sugging Calls
Not sure why you posted that link or what statement you're referring to. You seem a bit confused, especially as you keep changing your name. I will try one more time to get the message through: You're entitled to your opinion about my motives, even though it's wrong. All the same, you're entitled to have opinions, just as I'm entitled to ask you for them. On the phone, in the street, wherever. You are just as entitled to say no and be left alone. It's a pity you are unable to grasp this simple concept. But it's not about that for you, is it ? I think you're here just here for the mischief.

01313012940 - called today Sunday at 5.15 - girl with Scottish accent. Told her to get lost - put the phone down and disconnected it from the wall.
Looks like this is an Edinborough Number.
She would not give the company name.
Do not engage in conversation with these people as one gets charged for being on line.

On a point of accuracy: 1) If the call was from Ipsos MORI they would have said so right at the start. All interviewers are monitored and deviation from the rules is immediately challenged. 2) I assume by "Do not engage in conversation with these people as one gets charged for being on line" you mean that answering the telephone to a request to take part in the survey results in a charge to your phone bill. This is absolute cobblers - where did you get that idea ?

You are right that you are not breaking the law however if individuals register with TPS its to stop unwanted calls. Yes we can say remove me from your list but by that time we have had the call. What is needed is the ability to be removed from marketing and market research calls in one place [TPS] then all we have to put up with is the scammers that makeup the majority of unwanted calls.
I treat market research calls differently from marketing calls unless the same market researcher calls again after being told not to then they are reported and a complaint is sent direct to the company inquestion.

Note I arrived here after checking up on a number of scam call numbers and noticed the number of posters had reached 47 pages  so clearly it was a phone number worth investigating. I will be registering with MORI to block another avenue of interuptions.

Glad to see someone at last differentiating between legitimate market research calls and the sales/scam lot. Regarding why market research is exempt from TPS, you will find the reason has been posted several times in this thread. I wish you the best and hope you are not bothered in the future.

This number rang me and said they were doing a survey on behalf of the people who monitor what TV you are watching or something similar (can't remember the name she gave me of it) and wanted to do a survey.  she was only looking for people age 16-24 though.

Sorry, but you are not correct about the statement that they are not covered by the TPS. ALL calls to your number if they are unsolicited are against the rules. Please report it to the TPS.

Have had 2 calls from this number both at the same time the last 2 days haven't picked up due to being at work. Thought it was odd that they had rang at the same time each day.

Have been called 4 times now  and I am now getting fed up with unsolicited calls ,we are with the TPS but this does not deter them. When asked how they got my number was told that it was from automated calling.

If you check the TPS website, it does not cover Market Research.  If you want to stop these calls, go to the IPSOS/MORI website and use the "Contact Us" facility.  Tell them to remove your number from ALL their data bases.  The ALL is important as different groups of researchers use different data bases for different surveys. The ALL will stop any other groups 'phoning you for different surveys.

You're safe enough giving details to Ipsos Mori. Them and GFK are probably the most genuine market research companies out there. Be wary of Marketprobe.

Received a call from this number this afternoon. First time receiver. I ignore all numbers I don't recognise. I await with interest to see if they persist. The old trusty thunderer is always on standby beside the phone. ;)
