KAY - 17 Jul 2011
My mother was approach by a legal firm called Minster Legal Associates, York; she paid £1200 up front for an advanced directive, will and tranfer of house deeds. This was 2 and a half months ago, so far she has received nothing. What greatly concerns me is that she handed over the deeds to her house. Not sure what to do next, she has just informed me of what she has done and is very concerned. Should we be concerned? They do not appear to be registered with the law society. She has found it difficult to make contact with them.Caller: Minster Legal Associates LLP

I would be very concened this is the company owned by con man Gerald Barton who was exposed last week in The Daily Mirror as Britain's biggest con man. He has already received a jail sentence for fraud with wills in 2008. Go to the police.

Its all a con im afraid, i use to work for Gerry 4 years ago and i was very naive and didnt know it was a scam so i got out when i found out. The people you need to watch out for are
: Gerry Barton
: Mike Wilde
: Johnty Trotter
: Martin Smith
: Samuel Dodds
: Gary Jones
Stay away from all of them, they will take your money and you will never see them again!!

KW - Minster Law replies to K WWe have just had a client on the telephone informing us that we are a scam and directing us to this website.
Please remove any comments regarding Minster Law, Alexander House, Hospital Fields Road, York, North Yorkshire, YO10 4DZ from your thread with immediate effect.
We have no association with any of the companies mention herein. - Another victim of Express Law| 12 repliesMy elderly mother had a call which she thought was her local social services telling her that her house would be taken and sold to pay for her care. The caller said someone would visit to help her avoid this and gave her his details so that she could confirm identity on arrival. Sure enough the guy arrived and started selling legal services to her, some of which she didn't want. She said the man was very insistent and I get the impression she felt threatened and only signed up to get him out of the house. She handed over a cheque for about £2000. She does not know what she has paid for and only has a retrospectively issued invoice/receipt from Express Law breaking down the full amount into three items - a will (which she doesn't need), lasting power of attorney and transfer of equity. She has received the will which is a bog standard £10 W H Smith item which does not reflect her wishes and has most names spelled incorrectly. The power of attorney is the partially filled standard form from the internet which does not reflect her wishes and also has most names spelled incorrectly but not the same errors as the will. There is nothing relating to the transfer of equity.
I only found out about this when I visited at New Year. She has very poor eye sight and wanted me to read the documents for her. She has no idea what she has paid for other than she doesn't need another will. I forgot to mention she has the telephone preference thing.
Her local social services have confirmed that the call did not come from them, all outgoing calls are logged. I've tried calling Express Law many times but all numbers I have go to answer machines. Given she has no idea what she has done I'm worried she has signed over her house to them.
What I feel like doing is going to the Doncaster office and being uncharacteristically violent until everything is put right.
Please can someone advise me of a more sensible and legal option.- Caller: Express Law
- Troubleshooter replies to Another victim of Express Law| 2 repliesI am sure that if you contact the firm they will allay your fears and I am positive they will NOT have signed over your mothers house to them. They are members of The Society of Willwriters and despite what you may be led to believe on here (KW is a former employee of Gerry Barton who became disgruntled and bitter after being sacked - you may even be her, for she is fond of providing many false stories using various alias'). They have many satisfied customers who appreciate their advice and help.
- deepthroat replies to TroubleshooterTry to refrain from talking blx pls.
And 'Lee', threats, overt or not, will not be tolerated. - deepthroat
- Another Victim? replies to TroubleshooterI hope you are correct although the my suspicions were raised by their actions and subsequently appear confirmed by what I have read here, ignoring the name calling episodes. The things that worried me were cold calling a TPS registered number, giving the impression they were from social services, aggressive selling to a vulnerable person, demanding payment up front and the poor quality of work done so far.
I concede that it may be in some part down to the bloke that visited rather than the company as a whole but he acted as their representative so they have some responsibility.
I would be more optimistic if they would answer their phone... - K WTo all Readers, the below comment about Minster Legal Associates LLP based in York is from: https://whocallsme.com/Phone-Number.aspx/01904289396

I am keen to find out why you have moved your attention off the normal site and are posting on here today Christine???
I notice that Minster Law (reputable law firm in York and on the Law Society website) have commented about you on the other MInster/Barton page you are always trolling and they have had customers calling them a scam thanks to you.
Is that why your on here? Hiding away and trying to stir up new lies and scandal about another firm without any proof or reason the way you did to us.
Haven't you caused enough trouble for decent hardworking people in this industry already???

I spoke to martin smith and told him i wuld be back every day until we gt the refund,he arrogantly replied hat i was wasting my time.
I told him i had plenty of time to waste and if the refund was not credited back to my parents within 7 days then i would b conacting the police, trading standards and rogue traders.
The refund was credited back o my parents account within 7 days.
Hope this helps
 - Voice of reason replies to nutsDid you go to the office every day? Or did the refund get done in the course of normal business practice as they had agreed?
