For those who are not aware who DA is, we found him as he states, we traced him to this forum http://pub26.bravenet.com/forum/static/show.p ... 598883&cmd=show  that was discussing a previous Will Writing Company (NLS), who Martin Smith of Express Law used to work for with Gerald Barton, where consultants were taken for Thousands of pounds with the promise of support with their franchises that did not materialise.

We appreciate that you have confirmed, with the below comments, the lengths these people will go to and the tactics that they’re using are to merely elude newcomers.

Sorry if I caused you any confusion.

My last post was some what disjointed. Sometimes I let my anger get in the way of plain English.

When these people come on here to attack the aims of the site it just makes my blood boil.

Cath, I have nothing but praise for KW without their advice I would not have known where to start, this has been a difficult 6 months for us & I only continued fighting as it was my Brothers request before he died.  On KW's advice we contacted  the Wills Society (which Express Law was a member), this action resulted in us getting a full refund.

To all Readers, How to avoid scams:

Within the Will-writing industry it is sadly all too easy for Elderly and Vulnerable members of the public to fall victim to those who would prey on them for easy profits. Rip-off companies and con-men can flourish in what is sadly an unregulated industry.

There is a call for industry standards and regulations to be introduced so that “cowboy” companies can no longer trade and blacken the good names of those shriving to offer the highest possible standards of service.

Always do some research and get in contact with a company before deciding to invest a large amount of money.

We are proud to be leading the fight against the “rip-off” culture that can harm those most vulnerable people within our society.

Having read your message you say that Express Law "was" a member of the Society of Will Writers.I have just looked at Express Law website and there is no mention of membership which there used to be and there is no Society of Will Writers logo.

Called 12.20pm 20/02/2012 by "Alec" offering "Advice on future health care costs" I was handed over to "Matthew" when I asked for details of the database on which my number was held. Matthew was unable to provide the details but will "Call me back"!!

I can assure you they are a member of the The Society of Will Writers & Estate Planning Practitioners in Lincoln, we involved these after advise from KW within 4 weeks of contacting them we had the refund. If you want more information contact KW & I am sure they will help.

Just received a cold call from Express Law stating that "Councils are taking away peoples homes to pay for their care", told the telesales girl that I was not interested but she said that a representative would be in my area (Orpington/Bromley) at 2pm on Monday 27th February. Again I declined this meeting!

Watch out London Borough of Bromley area, Express Law are about!!

Robert Holly now works for Minster Legal Associates based in York alon with Samuel Dodds and Gary Jones. Stay clear of this company!

Robin H Thankyou for your comments. Did Matthew call you back? We assume that he didn't tell you that they gained your details out of the Telephone Directory. They do not pay for the data they use, hense why people that are on the Telehone Preference Service (TPS) still receive unsolicited calls.

Layla Thankyou for your comments. When people catch on to what they are doing, they move on and target new areas, even to the extent of setting up new firms under different names when they do get closed down. So we need the word to be spread more widely.

We also need more people that have had work done by IPS to go and get it checked with a Solicitor to make sure they have received what they have paid for, if not, they then need to report it to Trading Standards and their local Police. The more people that come forward, the more evidence there is and bigger the case against them.

I'm in Kent, and I just got a call from someone claiming to be calling from "IPS Legal Services". She asked me if I'd heard of some community care law or something, and was I interested in Asset Protection.


Me: “And what kind of a firm is that?”
Her: *Stunned silence* “We’re a private legal firm specialising in asset protection.“
Me: “And what is “asset protection?”
Her: *Another stunned silence* “Um, well, what it says really...”
Me: “Look, asset protection could be insurance, or it could be wrapping things up in foam and newspaper so they don’t get broken; it could be risk amelioration in portfolio management. Which is it?”
Her: “It’s Insurance.”
Me: “So why didn’t you say that in the first place?”
Her: *Silence*
Me: “No, answer the question - why didn’t you say in the first place that it’s insurance?”
Her: “Well, I’ve never had to explain it before. It’s obvious, everyone else knows.”
Me: “Terrific, so I’m more stupid than everyone else you’ve ever spoken to. Fantastic. So, what are you trying to sell me? [Meaning of course, what exactly are you trying to get me to insure?]
Her: *Stunned silence, then a giggle* “Um, handbags, t-shirts?”
Me: “Are you taking the piss, madam?
Her: “What?!?”
Me: “How much more of my time are you going to waste?”
Her: *Giggling* “Why, don’t you want to buy a handbag?” *Giggling*
Me: “Right, tell me your name.”
Her: *She puts the phone down*

I can’t help but feel they won’t get too far if they’re reduced to using inexperienced giggly teenagers to make their cold calls.
