Got call today asking about a neighbour.  They obviously get name from electoral role I would think then look number up.  I did not give any information out as it is none of my business what my neighbours do, and I certainly would not tell a complete stranger/cold caller anything.

My elderly neighbour got a call from 01482483251 asking for a name, that happens to be my first name. They then asked if I was living at such and such.  He took the number and when I rang back, the number was a recorded message from some telemarketing firm. tHaving found many websites whith numerous complaints about WESTCOT, when they answered they had no idea who or what I was on about.  It then got nasty with the phonecaller getting very shirty and started swearing. I hung up. I re-rang another number I found and was not surprised they wanted my full details and tel number to find out.I refused giving only my first name and postcode.

No surprise again, they couldn't go any further unless I supplied everything. Having stated I had no debts so why were they referring to strangers that happend to live in the same street as me that I had, there was no answer and then I was put through to another department.  They then tried to put me through to another which I stopped and again was asked to give my full details. When I said no as I was not going to give anything more out to a company that abuses people down the phone and calls up asking every neighbour in the street about me without actually contacting me first that this is unprofessional and againt the law. They hung up.

It is about time the powers that be stopped Westcot from doing this.

Try the above link, and also bear in mind that Westcot were one of four companies named in the death of Beryl Brazier.  For that reason alone, do not pay Westcot, do not call Westcot, and thus do not give Westcot any reason to continue to function.  Job cuts are on the cards there anyway.

I got a call from this number asking if a neighbour still lived next door

I have received a letter from Westcott credit services instructing me to call them, and if I didn't by the 02 July they would assume that I lived at the address. I called them up and told them that I did'nt know who they were after and how did they get this address. They told me that they would delete this address and the company that supplied it to them was called experiun. I am reluctant to call them but I am concerned that they might blacklist this address for any future credit. Can they do this??

I just received my first call at 8:30am this morning is this the start.....
What I have just done is report it to Watchdog(bbc)
If more of us do this then hopefully they will run a story on it.
and then help get it stopped

Received call from this number asking about a neighbour who has moved away, this is second time they have phoned me about 2 different neighbours i didnt give any information just pretended i didnt know who they were talking about!  This is disgraceful, i would be mortified if i found out someone was phoning my neighbours about me.  Can anyone tell me how to stop them calling me, Im registered on TPS.

these people keep sending letters to my address and sent them back on MANY occaisions after telling them this person doesnt live at my address & now im gettin phone calls asking if they live at my address....this is getting to be a pain the backside

I've just had a 2nd call in a week from this number. The first caller, a woman, and this second caller, too, sounded Scottish - perhaps I'm just hopeless at recognising regional accents - and both asked about a neighbour three doors away from me. Fortunately I know nothing about them and said so.

Received call at 8.10am this morning asking about neighbours who lived 3 doors away.  Advised caller I didnt know the people so couldnt help.  Did 1471 and the number was 01482-483251.  The worrying thing is the caller referred to me by name.

This number showed up on my caller ID when I returned from being out. No message was left on my answering machine.

It is the number for Wescot Credit Services, a firm of debt collectors. The phone number is in Hull and the company has offices in Hull and Saltcoats (western Scotland). The do have a web site, http://www.wescotcreditservices.org/contact.html

As to why they were calling me, I suspect it is because of some former neighbours in my block of flats who left a trail of unpaid bills some 3 years ago.

Time will tell if they try to call me again, but if so, I will leave them in no doubt of my disapproval of their intrusion.

I have had calls from 01482483251 requesting me to walk down the street and see if a particular neighbour ( she gave their address and name ) still lived there!

I asked where they got my number from and the woman said the electoral roll.

She then apologised and hung up fast.

Calling back the number the line is dead. So I looked it up online and called up their office number, the man I spoke to put me on hold "put you through to the correct depertment" and then killed the call.

Anyone who works under these conditions should be ashamed of themselves. It's despicable and harassment. What kind of person would report a neighbour? And what kind of people ask them to? It's repulsive.

We've been getting calls regularly asking about neighbours 2 doors away on both sides.
I always say I'm not telling them anything so they're wasting their time.
Today I picked up the phone and there was a man with a Scottish accent asking about one of those neighbours. I asked the caller if they were a debt collection agency and he said no, I then asked what the company name was and he said Wescot, I then asked what the company's business was and he said he couldn't tell me due to the data protection act, so I said I wouldn't give any information to someone who called me and wouldn't tell me who they were. He was very polite and said goodbye.
We've now registered with TPS, and next time they call I will specifically say not to call us again and mention the director Clare McCaffery's name.

had a call regarding if a neighbour still lived at a certain address,who do this people think there are calling me on a bank holiday & hoping i'll do their leg work for them.

I had a call on the 3rd from Wescot and after receiving it i sent an email to them to which i got an automatic response.
Today i received a reply from a Stephanie Chapman to say that i was contacted as part of a trace procedure in an attempt to contact an account holder.
She further said that they use publicy available information such as telephone data,electoral roll and information from Credit reference Agencies.
Further she said that i had contacted them previously but it was a different account.
I have been assured that my number will be removed to prevent receipt of any future calls but she is lying as another call was received by my wife at 6.30pm asking for someone by name at an address in our road so i plan on taking them to task via the Police,British Telecom,OFT and anyone else i can pester as well as posting all the information on consumer forums.
In addition i'll be sending their Managing Director and Head Office a nice letter of complaint by Special Delivery.

well they are still doing this! just had a call from a man with a scottish accent asking for someone who they say is living two doors up from me. i find this quite alarming! told them i had no idea who lived there and they hung up!

Just had a phone call at 8.00pm of a lady/woman asking about my neighbour if they still lived at there address etc, i will be ringing them tomorrow telling them to remove my number from there system..... what a very professional bussiness westcot must be  trying to get neighbours to do there work for them!!!
