Had a call from this number just about an hour ago asking about someone that lives a few doors away. They were trying to make out they had lost touch with them. I told them to sod off as they wasn't making much sense at all. Googled the number and here I am!  Found their website so I emailed them telling them that they should not be cold calling neighbours etc. Told them I had reported them to my local Police beat officer and to the telephone Ombudsman. Scumbags trying to get us to do their dirty work for them. (contactus@westcot.co.uk) Just had an automated reply that the email has been received. I'll let you know what they say later.

Below is a email I received from Westcot after I complained about a searching phone call:

    Dear Sir/Madam,

We are in receipt of your email dated 22 September 2010, regarding a telephone call you have received.

I can advise in accordance with The Office Of Fair Trading Debt Collection Guidance, it is deemed fair to make speculative contact and discreet enquiries with a third party to try and determine a forwarding address for an account holder. Usually this occurs if attempts to contact the person concerned by telephone have failed, this seems to be what has happened in this case. Such enquiries are not a breach of the Data Protection Act.

It would be helpful if you could provide the telephone number that has been contacted, and I will ensure our records are updated to prevent any further calls to your number.

I apologise for any concern which may have been caused and I hope this concludes the issue to your satisfaction. If you require any further information then please do not hesitate to contact me.        Yours faithfully
    Mrs J Munro

So I get a call from this number at 1.07pm today,I realised it wasn't a local number. The bloke on the other end sounded like he had a slight Northern accent(as found out later it was a Hull number) he asked about the name of a resident two doors up.I honestly didn't know(at the time) if they lived there any more so I said I wasn't sure.He didn't even mention the name of the street only the number so I asked him what street he meant to make sure, not actually telling him the street we live on.
Firstly how did he get our number when we've had it removed by BT preference services because of previous nuisance calls?
Secondly how did he get our number as numbers are ordered alphabetically by the resident's surname in the phone book and not by street-I can't imagine them sitting there for years looking through the book until they find a number of someone who just so happens to live on the same street.
Then again the resident in question hasn't lived there for a few years, perhaps she did when they started looking for the said other numbers!
Thirdly what do they actually want to get out of us by ringing us? We don't ring back because we know who they are,if they think they live in that house anyway wouldn't we just be confirming it? Bizarre!

you should inform your neighbour. debt collection agencies are not permitted to do anything that would cause embarrassment, e.g. leaving letters on doorstops in public view, etc.

This number called us a few weeks ago and we reported it then.  I've come home from work and they've called again but I didn't answer the phone. I just wish they'd go away.

01482483251   called me also. asked me if i lived at such n such and i said no and that i have never lived there..........  asked the girl on the phone what it was about and she said she couldnt tell me, mmm then why call a number noone has been given. which brings me to how the hell did these [***] get it in the first place.  the girl got all defensive when i asked her what her company was, she couldnt speak fast enough to make sure i couldnt understand. i said what does your company do and she told me trade. told her that no way am i discussing my business over a phone when i dont know who or what the hell she is phoning me about.

Received a telephone call from this number this morning asking to talk to my son.  When I said he wasn't in the man asked when he could get him. I didn't want to give info so said it was difficult to get him as he worked shifts. I asked if my son could phone the man. He said yes and gave me an address he thought my son lived at. The address is about 200 miles away from where we live and we have never lived at the address the man gave. The man apologised because he'd got the wrong person!

Think he should have checked his facts before phoning!

Hi, my parents who are in their eighties have just received there fourth call from these Wescot neanderthalls regarding a neighbour who has moved away.  Each time they have given them all the info they know yet Wescot still harrass them.  I have just spoken to Wescot, informing them of the distress they are causing my elderly parents and that what they are doing is illegal. I have been assured that my parents phone number will be removed tomorrow.  If they get another call from them I can speak to a supervisor.  I informed the man that he obviously has no faith in his companies procedures to already inform me of what to do if they receive another call.  I won't hold my breath.

They called today (about the third time this has happened) asking where my neighbour has moved to. I shall certainly give them short shrift if they call again.

I received a call on from a woman at the weekend telling me she was tryiong to get back in touch with a Mr. McGonagle & his address was one number down from mine. I told her I didn't know anyone of that name. She apologised & hung up. I rang 1471 & the number was withheld.

A few minutes ago I received another call from a man with a Glasgow accent asking me the same question. I told him someone had already rung me & I didn't know the gentleman anyway, I wouldn't have told him if I did know him. I don't.

I asked who was calling & he just said that he was tring to get back in touch & the addtres he gave me was the one he had for him.

When he hung up, I tried 1471 again & found the number 01482 483251.
I rang the number & a pre recorded message told me I had received a call from Westcott Credit Services & if they needed to speak to me again they would ring. They'd better not otherwise they'll get an earful.

I work from home & am sick of receiving this type of call & the ones where there is either nothing there or music just before an Asian voice comes on & says "Good morning, my name is Jason" or other such name.
    If this

I have received at least 1 call a day to my mobile over the last 3 weeks. Not answered once due to being in work. Don't know what they want so I got fed up googled the number and got this site. I don't know what they want because I don't have any outstanding debts. Next time they call (tomorrow) I am going to tell them exactly what I think of them. I'm also going to inform watchdog. If the calls continue I'll send one of my own field agents to them.

Oh good lord this is awful. I moved into my house last month, and have just had a brand new telephone line fitted. The line was connected yesterday (1st December 2010) and who do you think my first call was from? You guessed it, 01482483251 - Westcot Credit Services. The best part about this is, my number is ex-directory, so not 'publicly available' as they put it, and I am also on TPS, so even if it wasn't XD they shouldn't be ringing me anyway!

I, of course, didn't answer because I knew that nobody even had my phone number yet, and I didn't even know the line was connected until the phone rung!

When I did a google search, I was brought here, read a few of the messages and so decided to try ringing the number back... "The call you received from 01482483251 was from Westcot Credit Services. We are sorry you missed our call. If we need to speak to you we try again at a later date. Thankyou" was the recorded message I was greeted with. I can't seem to get through on their office numbers, it either just rings and rings, or they pick up and don't speak.
