My contract isn't for renewal for another 16 months and i'm getting calls! My brother works for the Carphone Warehouse and has had people coming in to the store asking - it is a scam! Hand over your personal details at your own peril!

They have called me 4 times now quite late in the evening - I wont be renewing!

Like **Lianne - 2 Sep 2010** I have had a number of calls this week, in fact in the last 2 days I have had 10 calls from 01612168911 and 01925555601, out of those calls 7 were from 01612168911 and 3 of them so far today.

The calls vary ranging from 8.30am to 9.15pm, companies aren't supposed to contact you after 9.00pm but I am sure I read somewhere they have lowered that time due to complaints.

Apart from once I have ignored the calls, the one time I did answer the 01612168911 they just hung up on me.

I have 2 phones, both on PAYG so no contracts involved but I seem to at present only get the calls on the cheap Samsung I purchased from Asda which I use on my motorcycle if it is raining or go out in the rain as I don't want my main expensive phone ruined, plus I use the cheap one for giving the number to people I don't know as if I have problems.

I'm not sure what other phones, or if it is Sim based but I have blocked both numbers on both my phones so as of 5 minutes ago all calls from those 2 numbers are rejected. I expected that on my expensive phone but didn't realise my cheap £10, well £5 as it had £5 of airtime Samsung from Asda had the reject setting on it so I'm happy now.

One of many numbers claiming to be the Carphone Warehouse trying to get me to upgrade my phone/contract to a newer, more expensive, shinier version of what I already have.  I think these people are working on commission because once told that you're not interested, they get all huffy and then continue to pester you anyway.  CPW has obviously outsourced their telesales people... so other numbers to watch out for are 01925555601 and 02086175910.  These are all automated numbers so a computer will call a random number from the list and, when answered by you, will connect to an agent... that's why sometimes they call at weird times or several times a day, and why sometimes there is no answer.  Just ask them politely to remove you from their list and you shouldn't get any more trouble.  If they call you again after you've asked them to remove you, you can tell them you will report them to Ofcom.  That should soon stop it!

This is the 1st time i have been rang by this number it's usually the 01925555601 that keeps ringing everyday do I ignore it or not

I used to have a contract with them 2 years ago - contrac expired in June and since then they call me on a regular basis - I haev asked them (since June) to take me off their list - they go quiet for a while then they get back on calling .....

how can I get rid of them?

Carphone Warehouse warned me about this when I got a contract phone a couple of weeks ago.It isn't them - it's a scam. They just phoned me and I politely declined to speak to them. OK the "politely" is a lie.

I have had the exact same 3 numbers trying to call me which I have not been answering as unsure who they all were so thank you for this answer has now helped!

14 calls in last seven days from three numbers - all Carphone Warehouse.  01925 555601; 020 8617 5910; 0161 216 8911.  

Speaking to operators is a waste of time, they don't remove your details.  

A polite email to ir@cwplc.com will work, it's the department that deals with investor relations and you'll be handled by the office that handles complaints to the CEO of Carphone Warehouse.  

Removal of details from their database will follow in 5-7 days.

Hello, I have just missed a call from this number. Should I answer? The comments below suggest not, and in fact I renewed my contract with Carphone warehouse last week so it ought not to be for that reason. It does seem odd therefore.

Hi, had 2 calls from this number (01612168911) today. It doesn't seem as bad as some of you, but is still worrying. I plan to block the number especially if as most of you are saying its a fraudulent company.
DON'T ANSWER! Or just tell them to p*** off!

My phone is on o2 from CPW... and I have only had a contract with them for 3 weeks now, so my contract certainly is not up for renewal.

Additional to my above comment - it almost certainly must be related to Carphone Whorehouse, as this is a new number, and I have not given it out to ANYBODY, as I am planning to migrate my old number to my new contract.

I repeat - the only people with my current number are o2 and Carphone Warehouse.

They keep calling asking for a number of people - none of whom is myself. I have asked and asked and asked for them to delete my number from their list, last time the not-so-nice lady said she could only do it if I gave her my correct name and address - yeah right!

These calls are from the "Out reach" centre of Carphone warehouse in South Africa. The staff are working with a system that appears to generate duplicate calls and confusion.

The UK format numbers have been sold by OFCOM and the traditional STD code is no longer any indication of the callers location. They are just as likely to be non geographic phone numbers.

01612 was the " area code for manchester" the center also uses 01925 traditionally associated with "Warrington" where Carphone warehouse do have premises

This number keeps on calling me and then hangs up.

The people who have this number, presumably Carphonewarehouse, don't deserve to get any business. They are pests, verging on vermin, out to get any little piece of money out of you that they can by trying to keep you and sell you another contract. They refuse to leave me alone even though I've told them to go away! I have now dumped CarphoneWarehouse and will NEVER NEVER NEVER EVER deal with them again.

Got 3 calls from them today in the last two hours and however I'm with Carphone Warehouse, my contract is not up for renewal untill maybe anothe 6-8 monts. When I pick up, they hung up - I think this is their way of checking that the number is live (in use). As with all previous comments - be carefull and do not give up your details to anyone cold calling.
