I've been receiving calls on my mobile from 0161 249 4490 for a few months now and it's really annoying me! If I answer they cut off, if I don't answer, they leave a silent message on my voicemail. What is this all about? If this continues I will be reporting this as harassment!

Carefull when calling numbers back. Some companies charge stupid money to call them back. They put you on hold then say sorry. Then you get the phone bill for £25 for calling them back.

This number and similar associated numbers try calling our house number on a regular basis.  The first time I answered the phone a cheeky young madam asked to speak to my husband about an insurance claim he had made in the past.  Despite telling her that he was not interested, she ended the call saying she would call him later.  

Luckily our phone lets us block numbers and each time an unknown one from the same area appears, I google it to check the caller and usually find a forum like this complaining about a telesales company of some sort, so its blocked.

I can check the missed calls feature and despite finding a long list of numbers with X's next to them, weirdly I find it very satisfying from my end, because I know that their attempts to call have failed!

Listen the minute you answer the call these people can trace your details.

It is all a scam.
NEVER give out any details, it is shockingly easy to do fraud with just your name and number.

Please everyone be aware. Never answer the call and remember, if it is important and legit they will always leave a msg!

Oh and NEVER ring back. NEVER! They will charge you your wages in bills.

Had loads of calls from this number which i was finally able to answer today as not driving when they rang!  the foreign gentleman (and yes i use this term loosely!) informed me that I had recently requested a quote for my vehicle and that it was showing that I had had an accident in said vehicle two years previous, which i found hilarious for many reasons such as I am a professional driver and have never been involved in ANY accident at all and also that I had only purchased the vehicle that he said Id had an accident in three weeks prior to his calls!!

So how they reckon that I was driving it 2 years ago when i didnt even own it i have no idea!

it costs money to ring em back numbnuts

It is true, I called 01612494490 back and there is an automated service.  One can dial 9 to have one's number added to the "do not call list."  They have even updated the voice prompt to refer to the "hash" sign.

This number used to ring my home phone at least 3 times a day.  leaves no message on answer phone, when I've answered it it either hangs up or they are trying to sell PPI etc.  can't remember if they said name of company or not,  after telling them to take my number off their sales list...... i now get it calling 6-8 times a day..  its 1pm now, they have already called 3 times?????

going to have to find out who to complain to... I'm already registered with TPS and that's not stopping it.


It is really very very annoying.

Keep receiving calls of this number daily - for the past week. I never answer though. Stops them thinking the number is manned.

Why! Why ring back did not want this call in the first place

Keep getting calls from 01612494490 Called it back and answer phone says "Cameleon Telesales, sister company of Action Claims". One of those "been in an accident? Want to pretend you got hurt and stitch someone up?" calls...... I am asuming....

This number belongs to a company called Cameleon Insurance, a known telepest. The caller will have info about a driving incident you've been involved in and my guess is that he/she will try to rope you into a compensation claim. I screened a call from this company and the caller happily lied like fury to try to get to speak to one of my colleagues.

Immediately I signed up with an o2 account - in minutes - I was getting these calls and the phone is always put down 0161 249 4490.

Nasty tactic ugh
