- Big sisYes this is Moorcroft. As I did receive a letter from them giving all the details of my debt, I was happy to deal with them over the phone. I explained that my husband has been self employed and now has very little work, I found the girl that I dealt with to be very understanding and helpful. She helped me to set up a repayment plan that was affordable for us, sent an email to confirm the details and followed this with copies in the post.

- davewell if its a debt collection they've got the wrong person i don't owe any money but i'm having trouble getting money owed to me by a credit card company. it went through the ombudsman thecard people said if i give them my bank details they'll credit me and close the account. as i've been trying since may 2010 i want some sort of goodwill payment on top. the next step if they don't want to pay any extra will be court action. they basically said they forgot to send it (a cheque) i said they wouldn't except that from a customer so i wanted extra.

I had a call from this Moorcroft last night at 8:15pm, on my mobile. How they got my number i dont know. They new my name and asked if this is who was speaking when i answered, i replied yes. They then asked to confirm my post code to and old road address my business used to be at, i refused and asked the girl who they were. She said morecroft. I replied that i had never heard of them and that any such phone call should be made during office hours and not when im at home relaxing. She rudely insisted she couldnt talk to me until i confirmed the postcode - which i refused. She then advised me that I have a very serious debt??????????????? Nice!!!
Anyway she then said are you refusing to talk to me over the phone, i said yes, and she hung up!!
Googled straight away and ended up here. I have done some more research and here's what i've found:

Although i found it all a bit unsettling, and It played on my mind last night, as i've watched the tv so im aware of what these bullies are like, they only have my mobile number..... so this so called debt should be hard for them to chase!!

- Fedup2 calls that I answered, asking for someone whose name I had never heard of. Both times I explained they had got a wrong number; second call seemed they didn't believe me: "Did I know this person?", I was asked suspiciously... "No, it's completely the wrong number", I reiterated (somewhat spooked!). Today, a message on my landline answering service, asking me to ring 01614752861 (MDR) as a matter of urgency - same name referred to that I had never heard of. Now it would appear that this person has given a false telephone number, that happens to be mine, and I am now going to be pestered by these wretched people. What on earth do I do? I certainly haven't telephoned them (don't want to enter into a dialogue as they seem to be ruthless and unethical). I have never owed anyone a penny in my life (quite a long one!), if this is what it's about, and I'm infuriated. A member of the family has just suggested that I get my phone provider to block their calls, as it amounts to harassment.

- HoundedI have been receiving daily calls from this number for over a month, Im always skeptical when receiving calls from a number I am unfamiliar with so I let it go and thought whoever it is if they want to get a hold of me that badly they will leave a message. No message has ever been left so when they called a few days ago I finally picked up to sate my curiosity. A gruff unpleasant male voice introduced himself but slurred the words 'Moorcroft' so I had to ask again to which he didn't seem too pleased. I immediately asked what it was in regards to and what his business was about. He said he couldn't tell me until I gave him my information just that it was a personal matter. I replied that I was not going to give any of my personal information to anyone over the phone to which he simply replied 'OK' and hung up on me. It was very mysterious and thinking this would be the end of it, its not, I still receive daily calls from them all of which I have not answered. I am in some debt but have sought professional advice for that and it is under control there is absolutely nothing else that I am aware of and all this smells of a bad rat to me.

- susi qWe are constantly being hounded by this company despite the fact we have a DMP in place, they think if they contact us direct we will pay them more to stop them hounding us. They say we can give them a payment by debit or credit card when you say you haven't got one they ask can't you borrow one!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

- Growler20For those of you who do owe money this is an unfortunate way some cheap skate companies have chosen to collect debt. IF however you do not owe the debt they're chasing or they have the wrong person there is something you can do.
Under the Data Protection Act all persons that process data (if you have a computer, then you're processing data - trust me) from which an individual can be identified (your email address book?) then the company HAS to ensure that the data is correct and relevant. If you advise them that whoever they're calling for does not live there / has moved out / you dont know who he is etc then they are obliged by law to update their records. Then register with the telephone preference service (its free).

- JoolzJust laugh at them , they these people bought an old (very old )debt.they are chancers hopeing to get you to sign up to a new agreement , once you do that your in there hands. If they could prove the debt do you really think your bank or credit card company would have passed it on . You have no debt to these rouges until you sign up to an arrangement.then they have you .if they can't provide you with any details now what do you think they can take to court . Any court need proof of debt , then this is disclosed to you befor court date , if they have something on you you could deal with it then , most people give in an pay to get rid of them but it won't work they will come back for more once they know you will pay them , it cost them money to go to court ,they won't do that unless they have some real proof and even then the court will help you as they are most likely to be on your side , be strong and don't play ball with them , treat them with the same respectful way the treat you , not .

- Paul S| 1 replyI recieved a phone all this morning (8am ish) asking to speak to my wife, i replied that he would have to talk to me as my wife has metal heath issues, he gave me a number (the one he ran from) and told me he was calling from MDR and to get me wife to ring them back. Unfortuantly my wife accepted a new bank account from Nat West in july 2008, the purpose of the account was she could have a cheque book to pay from a wedding dress, the adviser in NAT WEST said that we could shut the account as soon as the cheque cleared. There was no paperwork signed and was told that is was a straight forward thing. My wife did have a step account with NATWEST too but wasnt allowed a cheque book with that account. After my wife paid for the wedding dress we went in to NATWEST to close the account and they said they would only shut the account if we paid them £30 ! (to close account !) I told the girl behind the desk to leave it as i wasnt going to pay to shut an account. Over time NATWEST was charging my wife to have the account and was also providing an overdraft to pay off their own charges. We then seeked legal advice with CAB who complained on our behave to NATWEST about a miss sold account and an account that one used once and kept in the black. NATWEST crushed and closed the account later that year saying they could see it was their fault. Triton then contact me telling me i owe £545.67 for an account with RBS which i found out they are part of NATWEST. I refused to pay as i told them it had been crushed by NATWEST themselves, they replies RBS want the money. This continued until they passed it to NEWMANS, i explained the above and refused to pay, they them pass it to someone else who sent a letter which i igored. Then I get a letter and phone call this moring from MDR telling me they want the money !!
