I had a letter from these guys 3 days ago asking to pay some money straight away and every day since they have been ringing my mobile. I'm just not answering it..[***]

01706833772 has just called me for the first time. They wanted my detail and when I said who are you she said I cart give you those details until I gave my details first. I told the caller lm not giving you my details and she said put the phone down !!! WHO IS THIS COMPANY AND HOW DID THEY GET MY NUMBER ???

You are asked for your name and address to compare it to those that the company have on file for that number, they are searching for people who are usually actively trying to avoid paying debts. These are usually benefit handouts, which cost the likes of you and me in taxes every year. They can only discuss the debt with the person whose name appears on the debt, even if they are your partner, so cannot give out other personal info as it would be breaking the data protection act. Phone details are gathered from traces on public registers so if they get your phone number by mistake, it is a genuine mistake. This is the same for all debt collection companies. They dont do a nice job, but would you rather pay for people to continue scrounging handouts they are not entitled to, or refusing to pay council tax when the rest of us still have to??

I had a call from rossendales collect and they were perfectly polite about my outstanding nursery fees and even helped me come to a payment arrangement. I know they get a bad rep but they're not all bad and some actually want to help!

Used to get an odd call from these guys once every few days.  They never leave a message.  Now calling two or three times a day.  I am not in any debt and only my friends and family have this number - I NEVER give it out to anyone else so I think they are after the people who had the number before.  If I am home I just answer and immediately hang up again.  These guys should be shut down.  And given all the previous messages I don't accept the comment from the company above.  If they were up front they would say who they are and the purpose of the call.  No one with any sense would give out personal information to a stranger who calls.

"These are usually benefit handouts, which cost the likes of you and me in taxes every year." - Everyone in the UK is already a taxpayer (VAT, petrol tax, other taxes on other items, and more), and benefits are given to those who have no other means of supporting themselves.  And the benefits pot is our own money - not the government's.  If someone's abusing the process, then that's for the DWP to sort out and that's another issue entirely.

"Phone details are gathered from traces on public registers so if they get your phone number by mistake, it is a genuine mistake." - Rossendales only care about getting paid, and they don't care if it's a wrong trace if there's a chance they'll get paid.  Rossendales have one of the worst reputations in an industry that already has a rotten (justifiably so!) reputation as it is, and with good reason.

"They dont do a nice job, but would you rather pay for people to continue scrounging handouts they are not entitled to, or refusing to pay council tax when the rest of us still have to??" - No, it's not a nice job, and one you need a heart of stone to do.  Are you saying that everyone on benefits is 'scrounging'?  And what if they're actually unable to pay council tax (illness, sudden unexpected circumstances)?  

And Rossendales do not exclusively go after benefits claimants, so your post is somewhat misleading.  And I wouldn't get complacent or judgemental about the benefits system, because if you become ill, disabled or victim to sheer bad luck, you might very well have to rely on it to get by yourself.

I have reported them to Police and the Police tell me they have no powers to do anything, just to note the caller ID and times of calls.

I also called office of fair trading who told me they can't do anything to put a complaint in writing and they may be be able to address it but it is highly un likely.

I am very confused and up set at this.

I got a call from this number. The caller said he was from Rossendales but refused to tell me anything about the company. He kept asking me for my address and date of birth. In the end he hung up rather than tell me what his company was.

Hi  I get phoned at least 5 thimes a day from rossendale collect. I think they bought the debt from the electrical company I am refusing to pay as I was missold the deal they were offering. I have caller id and I have never answered it. but they always leave a message to say it was them.

Silent call!!! Annoying!!

write an email to ofcom and they investigate the number for you and and sometimes fine the companys calling!

If you are in any doubt as to this company then you need to look on Martin's Money Tips.  They cannot enforce anything at all, they have no power and even if they threaten you with the Bailiff you should just ignore the calls.  The only time you need to be worried would if you received a summons from the County Court who can enforce and who do have official Bailiffs, until then if they do ring just say hold on a minute and then go out and do your shopping, gardening, cleaning the car or whatever else you feel like doing.

Keep getting silent calls from them in the past few days.

Call received a couple of days ago at work on my mobile a for previous tenant at my address.  Worrying especially as its my personal mobile number!!!  How was it obtained????  This Company should be reported for its practices.

This company has left 2 voicemails on my phone, both 4 minutes of just silence! Annoying!! They call upto 3 times a day, but this is the first time they have left a message.
