I have been getting these calls at all hours. I never answer but it means I have to turn my ringer to silent in the night!

Keep getting calls from these idiots. This time I called them back and they started telling me they were going to report me to the police for telling them to f**k off.

Warning over mobile phone scam - BBC News website 14/3/09

A mobile phone insurance scam affecting hundreds of people across the UK is being probed by Trading Standards.

The fraudsters target people with new phones and make them believe they are getting a call from the shop or the mobile phone network.

But after the consumer gives their payment details they end up with poor quality phone insurance or none at all.

Trading Standards is investigating 10 companies in Swansea and urging people not to gave details to cold callers.

Those involved in the scam are thought to be buying phones and calling numbers similar to their own number until they find someone with a new phone.

One victim, Rebekah Swift, told BBC Radio 4's Money Box programme she was caught out when she bought an iPhone for her son's 17th birthday.

She said: "I took him to the Carphone Warehouse and bought him an iPhone and paid for some insurance.

"We came home and a few hours later his new phone rang and it was from some people who led him to believe they were from Carphone Warehouse.

"He came into the kitchen and he said they were offering a cheaper insurance deal and we thought that was great. I let him give my debit card details over the phone and thought nothing more of it.

"Then he received a text some while later from Carphone Warehouse warning him of an insurance scam going on and by that stage the money had already gone out of my account, and we'd been scammed."

Trading Standards says there has been a problem for the past 18 months, and that many of the companies are based in Swansea.

I told them my renewal was October, so he proceeded to tell me that I can renew next month, so I said that October was more than a month away. He then got very rude and said 'IF YOU LISTEN TO ME'. So I said no I won't, you are very rude and hung up!!

I was getting random calls from these people from a company calling themselves Splash UK.  I rang them back from a lane line with caller ID withheld/bloked and told them to stop calling me.  They have know took my number from there list.

Call me once a day, i dont answer, its very very annoying!!

This stupid number phoned me today. I realised I had a missed call from them, so I called them back thinking it was someone I knew. It went through to a voicemail, then phoned through to a call centre (I guess) and then I spoke to some foreign man, who said Hello. I asked why they'd called me and they said ''have you had a missed call from us'' and hung up.
Very annoying!

Calla about 2 or 3 times a day and when I answer hangs up.

i m getting call from this no. 3 times a day...its really irritating...

i got caught on the hop and in a rash moment gave some bank details as they suggested a ( slightly) cheaper deal and so I will now check with my bank.They were ok when i refused to give my card number and told me how to check them out at companies house including their registration number. However, now i've read all these complaints and comments about not many satisfied customers, i will blast them out now if they call again!!

I've had three calls today how much is this costing

I had Splash call me several minutes ago. I missed the call so rang them back thinking it was some one I knew as I used to live near Swansea. The chap on the phone started to explain I was being moved on to the three network as my contract was soon to end. I explained that I was with Orange and not three. He said he was going to move me onto a 3 contract with more minutes for cheaper. When I said I was not looking for a new phone he just said "Right, bye then" and hung up. I felt very hard done by as I thought this was very rude. But by the looks of things on this forum I got off lightly! Surely this company can be stoppped from doing this cold calling. This scam could easily trick people who don't keep as closer eye on their contract as I do!

Didn't call it back incase it was one of those ones who keep you on the line and charge a fortune - be careful of that.

This company are calling me several times a day, its getting really annoying.  My boyfriend works for a mobile phone company and he told me they are most likely using an autodialler as soon as they find a number that rings they will just keep calling it, they dont get our numbers from our actual phone company i dont think, something needs to be done about these people 33 pages of people complaing about them!!

My wife has just missed a call from 01792761030 on her mobile. We did not recognise the number and looked up the STD code on the Internet, indicating the call originated in Swansea. We do not know anyone in Swansea. I then searched for the number on the INternet and found this web page.

So, first, a thank you to whoever identified the source.

Second, since we are registered with teh TPS, should we not be able to claim financial compensation for being bothered with unsolicited calls such as this? Perhaps if everyone registered with TPS who received a nuisance cll from such companies sent them a bill for £50 for their trouble and folowed up the claim in the small claims court, these companies would cease their annoying practices.

I have had several calls from this number. Spoke to them once, Splash!! Assumed I was nearing the end of my mobile phone contract!! Was very abrupt and felt like I was just on a list a calls that had to be made and ready from a poor script. Who on earth would buy from these clowns? Extremely poor telephone manner and arrogant caller. Who releases such private data to rude monkeys???
