Had numerous calls from this number. Checked on here and decided to pick up the next time they called. Lady asked to speak to my husband, I asked 'who was calling' and she said HomeServe. I told her I was uninterested and thanked her for call. She said 'I need to deal with Mr X, not you, so I will call back when he is in'. I said ' no you wont, we are not interested. We do not buy from unsolicited sales calls and are registered on TPS, so you shouldnt be calling us anyway' She said 'I will ring and speak to Mr X when he is home'. I replied ' I am his wife and can categorically tell you that we will not be interested, so please take our details off your list. You will do this now, yes?' She said ' I will just keep calling until I speak to your husband then, good bye' and put the phone down. !!!!!

(sorry for the huge ramble, but its just happened and wanted to write it down when it was still fresh in my mind)

Was insensed by this, so found the telephone number for the complaints dept. Very confusing website, they only like you to email complaints, so rung a telephone number on their site and an admittedly nice man there dealt with it all. I told him what happened and they promised to investigate and call me back within the next week to let me know what they have found out.

If anyone else has a bad experience with them telephone number I used is 0800 783 0951.

    Terrible!

If they call you and you are already registered with the telephone preference service you can report them.  There is an online complaint form: http://complaints.tpsonline.org.uk/Consumer/Default.aspx

They are always trying to sell me underground pipe insurance. They keep phoning, despite my insistence every single time that they remove me from their list. They also send me mail. They have my first name and my surname mixed up, so I know who it is when they ask for me by the wrong name. They phone about 1-2 times per month. I even know the script that they use.

When you say "I'm not interested", or the equivalent they have to reply:

"So your pipes are covered are they?"

Which of course is a loaded question.

I wouldn't buy a thing off Homeserve, if only because they can't even get my name right. The call centre staff are surly and pushy and pretend to not understand what you are telling them!

    Dear 'Adam',

Asking people, however nicely, to stop doing something that provides them with a living would be like asking cattle-flies to stop biting cattle.  The way your post turns unpleasant towards the end suggests to me that you hate your job.

Please ring all you want if it helps.  I wil be cancelling my Homeserve DD tomorrow.

I have so far read two responses from Homeserve employees.  Both have been unpleasant.  With the unpleasantness taken out, what I understand from both responses is that we all have to follow your Homeserve's rules

    a) to keep you in work and
    b) or it will continue to harass us.

    Yeah.  Right.

As for empty lives & minds - all I can say is I don't have to work in a call centre.

    Dear Adam

As you can probably see I have made three or four posts on here about your company, from which I am still receiving 2 to 3 calls per day, in fact my phone shows 96 calls over the last 8 weeks alone.

"we're not intentionally intruding your day, and getting this wound up about something that can be resolved so simply and isn't really that much of an issue is pretty pathetic."

Resolved so Simply? are you having a laugh...

Since November 2009 I have been politely answering your agents calls and politely informing them I'm not interested and would like to be removed from whatever list I'm on, only to come home the next day to find 3/4 missed calls! - even though the agent says I have been removed and even though speaking to SIX Managers/Supervises over the last two months (and on all occasions told I have been removed)

I am now quite frankly past caring what your trying to flogg me and whom you want to speak too, I have no idea how you can justify ringing someone who has BLATANTLY stated they are not interested 96 times in 8 weeks! In fact I'm sure when I come home from work today their will be another 2 or 3 missed calls so I would make that 99.

"if you're getting a lot calls it's likely that you're not the decision making contact but keep hanging up on a caller, or avoiding confirming who you are. those calls will just get a 'callback wrong party contact' outcome."

Since your ringing me roughly 3 to 4 times a day (28 times per week) I'm not entirely sure what you would call 'a lot' however I am the decision maker in my house and I will dam right avoid confirming who I am to any cold calling half whit interrupting my day constantly as I please.

You should be personally ashamed to work in a company that uses such awful tactics, I would HATE to imagine how many elderly people you bother with these calls on a daily basis.

I was on business in Southern Ireland just before xmas and I met an Irish guy there, who was a friend of a client of ours. In general conversation the issue of nuisance call in the UK happen to come up, since I had been having the "homeserve" treatment since late 2008. This guy told me that he had developed a phone filter system, that examines all incoming calls before they actually ring the phones in his house. He went on to say that his system will only allow calls through that are on a database tied to the system, or will only allow calls from certain geographical locations, for example all international calls allowed etc. In addition he had a written simple GUI to allow him to set the parameters of rules for incoming calls, much like how you would set rules on email or a database. He said that the key to the system was not the software side, but the hardware he had developed to filter calls coming from the local exchange to his house. I was amazed and to be truthful, I did not really believe it. However, he took a couple of us back to his house and fully demonstrated the system.

We used my mobile and a colleague to try call him after he barred us. then I asked both my wife and brother in the UK to call me there also. He demonstrated how he could toggle on and off which of them got his phones to ring and which did not! I had people call us from our Dublin office and others and only the calls he allowed or met his predefined rules got through. Suffice to say, I seen him demonstrate it, to the point that I knew for 100% certain it was absolutely what he said it was.  You can imagine what I thought the commercial applications for this are. When I asked him why he was not seeking to bring it to the market, he told me that he had to break 3 different unrelated, but unavailable to him patents. He said the patients referred to a totally different use of the technology, however he had adapted them for his device. He said that the companies owning the patents would never allow him to use them without massive capital return. When I suggest that he could still achieve this by selling the system, he pointed out that the owners of the patents could easily copy his idea and leave him for dead.

He went on to say that a significant part of what he had developed was totally new and he could own the patent on that part, if he could meet the cost of getting that patent registered. Again, this would be very expensive and risky. He pointed out, what happened to Dyson when he first brought his vacuum systems to the Japanese, even if that ended well. He did not seem to care that much about it and had only done it for his own use. He was working on something totally different for his employer now anyway.

I am keeping my eye on this and hopefully it will find its way into the market, or someone else out there will do it. I think its already possible to use a computer to screen calls, however, those calls need to come through the computer system via net. The beauty of his system was that it works over standard copper wire exchanges, and is physically a small installation and cheap to produce. Once you set it you could forget it. It also recorded all call attempts by number, location. time, withheld etc etc. He mentioned that it could be further refined to allow for fuzzy logic circuits, so that an individuals system could learn and adapt to resolve 100% efficiency, meaning regardless of any future electronic trickery by people like homeserve, only wanted calls would ever get through period.

I asked very very nicely for one for my own personal use, and even offered a bribe :-) however, he would only agree to think about it. I chased him for a while, but its clear he does not want to give it to anybody right now.  He is a young guy, only 28 and works for a world leading technology company outside Dublin.  I know this problem is not going to go away and its going to get worse in the future, however, for me at least, I have great hope that we will all have a solution for this annoying problem when it hits saturation point and the big tech companies sit up and see a good bizz opportunity here.

hope that gives some of you out there hope too :-)

As suggested by one post on this forum, I politely emailed Homeserve's chief executive Richard Harpin. I got a very prompt and courteous reply from Homeserve's Senior Customer Relations Executive Ian Francis (ian.francis@homeserve.com), who has said that my number will be removed from their automated dialling system. Time will only tell if this happens, but Ian can also be phoned directly on 0800 408 9140 if anyone else has any problems. Alternatively their Customer Relations department is on 0800 408 5070.

I am on TPS and they just ignore it. My number was whored out by a magazine sub from 3 years ago, somebody got me a VIZ subscription as a christmas present and put my number down on the form. I get calls from 0700 until 2030. Best option is to get caller display or inform friends and relatives to ring once, leave a message then I call them back - as I am on Talk Talk calls are free on landlines.
