Don't be flash. Make sure you don't get too big and attract too much attention. The people who ran City Vintners and Goldman Williams, the leading claret investment companies, forgot this principle. They also ran penny share dealing operations in Barcelona and Grenada. On 23rd June 2002 the SFO raided 13 addresses in the UK, Grenada and Barcelona to gather evidence. This investigation started in March, so has moved fairly quickly. Although no arrests have yet been made, it will be surprising if the SFO does not press some charges.
Should wine investment not work out because of unfavourable publicity, then there are similar scams in art - or you could try ostriches, greyhounds, rare coins - anything that is not covered by the Financial Services Act.
Gotta stay flexible. Know wot I mean? See that brand new Ferrari over there? It's mine - and I paid cash. - Anon| 12 repliesAccounts published for upto dec 31st 2012

- another replies to Anon| 11 repliesCost of sales £10,121,491, would this include brokers fees ie sales commission of £5,259,602.
Am I right this makes cost of wine purchased for clients £4,861,889 against £19,329,380 turnover? - Anon replies to another| 10 repliesYes that's the way I read it, I have downloaded accounts from companies house and it reads:
purchases :£5,206,091
brokers fees :£5,259,602
I cant pretend to know exactly what I am looking at but this bit seems rather clear. brokers fee's are down on the year 2011 though as they were £6,308,154, - another replies to Anon| 9 repliesSo in round figures 5 million purchase x 380% = 19 million sales
Nice - anon replies to another| 8 repliesAnother way could be 5 million + 280% = 19 million
Still nice - an replies to anon| 7 replieshttp://blogs.mirror.co.uk/investigations/2013 ... nt-3-borde.html
A follow up story must be due with all this new info. - Anon replies to an| 6 repliesThere is also another poster on invest drinks.org but he has posted under the boltons investments ltd thread instead of Bordeaux fine wines, he states that he has invested with Bordeaux fine wines and has had his substantial portfolio valued by another company who have told him it will take him 15 years to make any sort of profit.
No wonder he his making 280% - anon replies to AnonThe arrogance of some one who trade marks ' the opportunist'
280% is not a suprise - Anon| 4 repliesI've bought from Berry Brothers for years, but am trying to help my brother-in-law who has got tangled with this company. It appears to me that they have completely changed their business model and website along with it:
* They now advertise themselves as Fine Wine Merchants, rather than the Investment specialists they used to be (or not be which seems more accurate)
* The refer to themselves as "primarily a wholesale company", which is very disconcerting for those who have been conned out of £50,000 or more.
* Just a few months ago, they said the only invest in 5 'First Growth Bordeaux' because of their investment potential. Now they advertise a completely different sort of wine, not intended for investment at all!
* Even now, the wines they are selling are waaay overpriced; if you're after these wines for drinking, check out wine-searcher.com; if you're after these wines for investment, you're buying the wrong wines most likely!
My brother has been ripped off and screwed over thoroughly by this company, I have little sympathy because he ignored my advice, but have experienced the high-pressure sales tactics too and it's intimidating. Stay away form these con-artists!- Caller: Bordeaux Fine Wines Ltd
- Anon replies to AnonTotally agree with everything you have said, I noticed all of this when the website changed over, the highest price case of wine on there site is £1408, a far cry from the 7 and 5 grand a case they have sold as investment to many a customer
- anon replies to Anon| 4 replies280% never, more like 70-80% then sell the same case twice? how else do you get to 19m turnover from 5m purchase. He pays his brokers 5m according to latest accounts, and that's down from the previous year.
- anon replies to anon| 3 repliesYou should try storage investment and pension release?
That's the next one. - Anon| 1 replyIf you are a customer of this company I am afraid you will shortly be recieving bad news.
They are currently being investigated by a government body and have been visited by investigators at least twice to discuss matters with Mr Gundlach. Time has run out for this company and will be closed by the court in the not too distant future, although I suspect not until after Christmas.
Not surprising given they have had their bank accounts closed twice due to suspicious activity (once by HSBC and once by Metro bank) and there is only £10million of wine purchased against over £45million of sales. Gundlach is ok though as he has personally received in excess of £10million whilst the brokers have received in excess of £12million.
Don't be shy. Go and say hello at The Lansdowne Building, 2 Lansdowne Road, Croydon, CR9 2ER. They are on the 3rd floor. The expensive cars are parked in the underground car park under the building but you will see the Range Rovers and some of the Audi's in an open air carpark on landsdowne road behind the NCP carpark.
Depending on how angry you are I am sure the drunks that hang about outside will gladly help you gain access or accompany you into the building.- Caller: Bordeaux Fine Wines
- Anon replies to anon| 2 repliesYour right that is the next attempt but don't worry, government bodies are already aware of Gundlach's attempts at diversifying. He won't be able to do it. If he attempts to put a stooge in that will be covered also. Gundlach's time is up. When the time is right I will release his location and anyone who wants to go and speak to him about the losses you have made can go do so. His twitter account is interesting to and the location of his horses.
