This is a general number used by various charities I think.  In my case this time - Barnados.

It speed dials its way through the list these people have ahead of the person making the calls who is usually still talking to their previous call so sometimes you may answer and the line goes dead.  They will just ring you back when they are ready.

They are trying to talk you into tying up with a direct debit giving them a regular sum.

I asked how they got my number and they said from the recent text santa promotion where you could text £5. to a chosen charity.  I did not text Barnados and I was a little miffed that they had decided to tug on the petticoat hoping for a share.  I had to explain to them I may have donated a small amount to a charity over christmas but that I was not well off, in fact I had no income, and therefore could not tie myself up to a regular payment to them as I was struggling to keep my own family.  Would you believe they STILL tried to talk me into it.  

I asked them please to remove me from their list and replaced my receiver.  

As I have done this several times I expect more calls tomorrow!

Exactly the same situation with me - Sadly they are cutting their noses off to spite their faces as I wont text donate again and I stopped donating by post and credit card years back because of the calls and paper mail generated.  Such a shame

They would make so much more if they stopped all the calls and door knockers (I dont answer to them either).  I know it must be very difficult but the expense of their wages and calls, this must detract from the income.

There must be many like you and I who have stepped back with our small and random donations - quite a loss I would think.

I donated to SoccerAid in May 2012 (the one with Ant and Dec and celebrities playing football at Old Trafford) and Unicef have just started to ring me asking me to set up a DD to them following my donation.  All in all they rang three times before Xmas and once today

It's a real shame.  These charities do good work but this ensures that UNICEF will not be getting any more of my money

Charity I donated money to at Christmas for deaf blind kids on 70007 via mobile ... last time I will do it!

This number is a third-party call centre that is paid by a number of different charities to call up and ask you for more money so whichever charity you have donated to, that is who they will be representing. Annoying! Something to remember is that whilst the charity is non-profit, the third-party call centre take a percentage of any donations that they raise so much better to tell them no and then donate directly to the charity.

Its a company who charities employ to make cold calls to people who have either donated or shown interest in the past.

Have had several of these as missed calls  I didnt recorgnise the number so did not ring back.Eventually i answered one and seemed to be in another conversation male voice talking about seeing you in my taxi.I spoke no answer then dead. Odd !After another missed call my husband decded to ring back  recorded message stating this was a charity if we dtd not wish these calls to continue all we had to do was ring another number give our name and phone details mentioning GEN . No way. Is it a scam at  no time was money mentioned surely no charity would be stupid enough to do this as.reading other messages an awful lot are going to lose ou by it.!

There are a lot of conspiraces arising from who calls from this number, why, how they got your number, etc.

This number is from Listen, who are a professional fundraising organisation. They raise money for various charities. The charity invests x amount of money from their fundraising budget to raise 2 to 20 times the investment. They (the company or the fundraisers themselves) don't receive any amount of the donations made, nor make a commission. The fundraisers themselves are paid to make the asks themselves, not based on the donations they receive

Phone numbers are obtained from responses to text message appeals (i.e donate £3 to such and such appeal), people who have filled in surveys and questionnaires, previous and current supporters, or from street fundraisers. If you are unsure which, just ask them where they got the number

The dialer is automatic. If someone calls and you say you are busy, a callback is made for another time (could be a specific time). Ignoring them means you get called again and this is in no control of the fundraiser. If you wish not to be called, tell the fundraiser "Do not call me again", "Take me off your list" etc.

Where does the "x amount of money from their fundraising budget" come from?  Oh! I know, it comes from donations!!  Therefore the charities are using our donations to pay these companies.  If you are going to try and spin a story, please don't treat us as idiots.  Some time ago I tried to donate anonymously to Unicef, but they wouldn't accept the donation unless they could have all my details.  After that they pestered me endlessly, until I had to lose my temper to get them to stop.  I had been donating to the Red Cross for some time when I got a 'phone call asking me to double my donation.  Even though I explained that, as pensioners, we had a limited income, the person who 'phoned would not give up.  In the end I told him that if he did not stop I would cancel my donation.  It is obviously in someones interests to harass people into increasing their donations.

Each and every charity in world sets aside a certain percentage of ALL donations to invest into fundraising - in many different forms. Whether you see an advertisement on television, on a billboard, on the train or anywhere else, that will have been paid for from that pre-allocated budget. If charities did not set aside money for fundraising, they would not raise funds. The fact is that there people out there sympathetic to the various problems of world we live in, and charities will naturally strive to make contact with these people in any way possible. As previously mentioned, these telephone campaigns are incredibly cost-effective, and it is simply not something the charities themselves are in a position to do. It is in no-ones interest to "harass" - least of all the person tasked with making the call, who often takes the brunt of the criticism and abuse of people like yourself. The fact is that a job is a job, and these people are trained to work strictly to the criteria of the charity they represent. This often means asking for money more than once, but knowing that at the end of the day, that money always goes to an incredible cause.

If you had read my post you would have seen that I was answering the post which said the money to pay these companies came from the fundraising budget, as if that budget had nothing to do with donations.  You would also have seen that I had been harassed for some time on behalf of Unicef BEFORE I lost my temper and that the person ringing on behalf of the Red Cross chose not to understand that we could not increase our donation.  If these people are trained then perhaps, in the case of my callers, some retaining is necessary.  We donate to three charities but directly and do not get cold called.  I would not think that repeated calls to people who have declined to donate was an effective use of funds provided by donations.

Regularly get calls from this number on my mobile, usually early afternoon. First time I asked not to be called back this but made no difference. Still getting calls January 2013.
Believe calls may be from charity organisation.

If you are already donating to the charity they are ringing you about, tell them you will stop your donation if they continue to ring you.  If you do not already donate, ask to be put through to a supervisor or, failing that, ask for their address.  Either way, let them know that, if they continue to harass you they will be reported to the ICO.

Cold call from AgeUK charity based on the fact that I donated to them a couple of months ago.

It's simple. I ask them if they have a note of my number. If they say yes I say 'well never never call this number again!!! One caller from this idiot company a girl was so annoyed at my response she rang back and shouted BIG HEAD down the phone at me. I couldn't stop laughing.

Probably a lie, since the callers have no control over the dialling system. And no one has a "note" of your number, it's simply in the database as a result of something you did. All you need to do is say five words - "take me off your list".

I texted a £3 donation for Unicef for blankets for children in Syria and got a thank you text from 70007 followed by several calls from 02076197597.

I checked the link Unicef sent me www.unicef.org.uk/syriainfo and it was simply a case of texting NOCALL to 70007 to stop the calls which as someone else has said are made by a third party on behalf of several different charities.

If you've texted donations or anything like that it is worth going on that charity's website to see how you can opt out of follow up calls.

They call me 10 times a day! I told them three times remove from the list as you make me regret helping your charity! What I am amazed is the advert for donation was from TV national channel!? I talked to my line provider and they said you can have call blocker App!? I did but they are so powerful and they keep calling! To me is they do the same job as the others make under age girls getting married! Why because both groups actually FORCING others to do something! How I can get rid of them?

I donated via text to 70007  £3. following a TV ad.  Seconds later I had a thank you message with the info that someone would call me soon from 02076197597 to tell me more about their aims.

Without a doubt, now they have my £3. phone donation they will try and talk me into singing up with a direct debit so I can donate on a monthly basis ........for once I thank them for letting me know so I know not to answer that number when it calls.

What a damn cheek.  Certainly puts you off donating in the first place.
