Front page of TPS website. "It is a legal requirement that all organisations (including Charities, Voluntary Organisations and Political Parties) do not make unsolicited calls to numbers registered on TPS unless they have your consent."  I take that to mean that, by registering with TPS I am removing my consent.  What is your take on it?

No problem.  You actually did me a favour as it is ages since I had read the actual wording.  My earlier post was from memory and it's fading with age!

John Delaney is NOT "making it up as he goes along", Nan - you are. Not once did he say that by "picking up your phone" and answering a call you will affect your TPS status. You DO however affect that by picking up your phone and texting an original donation without being aware of the terms and conditions - the ever present small print. Most print adverts will say directly at the bottom that by texting their number, you agree to give consent to be contact by the charity or a representative on their behalf in the future, which is what has happened to every single person on this board, whether they'll admit it or not. Beyond that fact, it isn't even anything to do with Listen (the company from whom you have received these calls) as they simply receive a long database of numbers from the charity they represent. Even if the small print didn't exist.. how could these charities know you are on TPS in the first place? As has been mentioned previously, Listen is the gold standard in that industry and if you notify the caller about being on TPS, or you simply ask them politely not to call again, you are pretty much guaranteed to have that fulfilled. That's not to say there aren't bad eggs, idiots and lazy people in every job including that one, but you can be certain that any complaints (especially if backed up by the time of call and the name of the caller) will be upheld and almost certainly dealt with by dismissal.

We are all adults. I absolutely understand that a lot of people will be irritated by the nature of these calls, and that's fair enough. What isn't fair is casually jumping onto an internet forum and casting allegations of criminality without having any understanding whatsoever of the situation you placed yourself in. At the end of the day, these companies do a good thing not only for the charities they represent but also for the employees they hire. Any grievances - unless specifically caused by a poor-quality call - should be made directly to the charity and not aimed in any way at Listen, who for all intents and purposes, are ticking every box they've been asked to. Take accountability for yourself. Kicking off on the internet isn't going to solve your problems.

If you read the TPS rules, it is the responsibility of the people making the call i.e. the company not the charity, to "scrub" their calling lists to remove TPS registered numbers. Don't try and blame the charity.  Your basic message is that people who respond to TV appeals etc.,  are laying themselves open to being harassed by these companies.

Having re-read your posts (under both names), I will make one final point.  When I donated to Unicef I was not told that I was agreeing to 'phone calls. As for giving a web link for terms and conditions, how many people go to something like that when they are donating by text?  People are touched by what they see on screen and pick up their 'phones to send their donation. When I donated to the Red Cross via a doorstep caller, no mention was made of telephone calls.  Had there been, I would have opted out. You are simply trying to wriggle out of any responsibility for these harassing 'phone calls

Well said.  According to "Vince" you are supposed to go to the website of the charity you wish to support and read their terms and conditions before you donate!!  I have seen some daft things in my time, but that takes the cake.

I made a donation to charity. They asked if it was alright to follow up and when I picked up they were professional and courteous.

The point is you were asked.  The people on here who are complaining were not asked.  They donated by text. Certainly in the two instances where I was harassed I was not asked.  The Unicef donation was by 'phone and the Red Cross was in my own home.  On both occasions no mention was made of 'phone calls.

I have just had a call from this number, didn't answer, as I don't answer if I don't know who it is, but all I will say is, if I continue to get these calls I will not be donating to charity by text message again, you give your donation but don't wish to be hassled for more!

It's a charities number, I dontated to Unicef via a text on my mobile last week after seeing an appeal on T.V. Just got a call from them, and from checking the number it seems that it's used by various charities to chase more donations.
Seems a bit underhanded though - most people give when they can, and I don't like the idea that our numbers suddenly end up on some list as possible 'donators'. If the calls continue (as it seems from peoples posts, they can do) then I'd be reluctant to ever donate by phone or text again....

I agree absolutely with the last message. I also donated to the Syria Appeal with a text. However I won't bother again if it means that I will get repeated phone calls from them (as has happened this week). They irritate me even more by not leaving a message to say why they have rung and who they are. They should leave a message and then, if we do not reply, they should be bound by the TPS  restrictions and leave us in peace.

Depends on the type of phone you have and which Service Provider you are with.      Start by talking to your Service Provider.

02076197597 keeps calling me again and again! I have to pay for their calls because I am in Europe now. I asked my provider (02) how to block this number and they say they cannot do it! I think they are not taking responsibility and are complicit in this scam.
