- Alan replies to Phone headBlah Blah......you certainly talk as much as any salesman. If my £3 isnt good enough, please have the courtesy of not asking for it in the first place. If I could afford more, Id have donated more. But there are so many with their hand outstretched that Bill Gates would be sucked dry..
- Catherine replies to Phil Short| 1 replyThey are a company called Listen raising money for UNICEF. UNICEF employs them to do this but at a price. I completely disagree with this form of fundraising. I would much rather just go straight to UNICEF website and make a donation, if everyone did this, UNICEF would not feel they had to pay companies to raise awareness and cash. Don't give these companies your details but definitely continue to give to charity, whichever one you choose. The problem is not enough people do donate to charity and that's why this companies are continuing to harass us, they are paid to do that.
- A caller. replies to CatherineI have called on an off for the last five years for numerous telephone fundraising organisations, firstly, all charity telephone fundraising is now regulated by Ofcom and the Institute of Fundraising.
The charities only afford one call per person, once the callers have done the job the charity asked them to do, they will not call again. Secondly, It is also forbidden to leave answer machine messages which would constitute harrassment.
I understand its frustrating, but please think of the need the charities have. The 125 million pounds raised over a five year period by that company suggest that this form of fundraising is absolutely essential. If charities could raise those kind of funds without using telephone fundraising, they would.
The returns on investment far outweigh the funds raised by volunteers. Giving the charities that all important regular income stream allowing them to budget more effectively so MORE of your gift goes to the work they do. There is never any obligation to give, charities pay by person spoken to, not by person who says yes, by all means complain if someone is rude, or breaks the law, however if not, there really is no need to get upset.
Callers like me could be making far more money personally in a PPI or Insurance call center, but choose to try and raise awareness and funds for Cancer, Animal Welfare, The Red Cross, UNICEF and a myriad other causes. - Maurice replies to workerWhy then did someone from listen spend 20 minutes badgering my wife for a donation for the MS Society ? All they achieved is a stop on any future donations
