I thought TPS protected us from unsolicited calls?

Unfortunately, they are correct.  TPS does not cover Market Research.  However, a reputable Market Research Company would say who they are, as the Data Protection does not prevent them from doing so.  You were probably 'phoned by one of the scam "survey" companies which ring to get personal information so that they can sell it to other scammers.

This number calls late evening now, they claim to be all sorts of people, banks (They could at least try to get my bank right), government, opinion pole people. Ofcom aren't interested, so perhaps someone should be investigating them too with a view to closing them down.

My advice is not to answer the phone as they could easily be logging when you answer so they can build up a picture of when your property is occupied and sell the information on to criminals.

This number just phoned me at 18:42 and woke my kids up. I'm not happy about this and at this time of night all this should be at hours of 9am-4:30pm

Yes after reading these posts it is defiantly  a PHISING SCAM!  A complete stranger calls and asks for you by name and then asks who or who not you bank with.  If they guess right and they proberly have a 1 in 5 chance then they are armed for the next phase.  So they have your name and properly your address. Now they know who you bank with.  Here is a warning  You will have to be very nieve  to give out that info.

got a call from 0207 8909051 saying they were from Barclaycard. I was a bit suspicious about them, so I immidiately phoned Barclaycard up and notified them about it.

GFK NOP rang me on 02078909052 at 4pm SUNDAY!!! There is no end to this companies immorality, cold calling market research on a day of rest. Its about time there was legislation protecting consumers against these unwelcome cold callers.

Called at 20:30 for "Market Research" purposes. They quickly got off the phone when I told them I don't appreciate cold calling at this time of day!!

Do you work for them? Sounds like your promoting them stating they have a 80 mil turnover and are genuine. Who cares. I just want the idiots to stop phoning me all the time.

My answerphone intercepted a call from 02078909051; no message left. I was also contacted by my bank today to inform me of a fraud on my debit card. Coincidence??

I have worked for gfk nop a couple of years ago. some surveys are directed at a named person, so we could only confirm we are doing market research, if pressed we could say it was gfknop. some surveys are done by random numbers, others were specific to a caller.

Phone call

This is the 3rd time this number has called me said they were from GFK and were doing survey on customer satisfaction for Barclays Bank.To say i was short with the caller would be an understatement and she put the phone down.A friend of mine had a similar call this week doing a survey on Lloyds customers.In my opinion he was wrong to take part and answered their questions.Time will tell.

Got a call from this number at 19.30 30th October 2012.  Didn't recognise the number so didn't pick up.  Beauty of having a phone that displays the callers number but always the possibility that it may be a genuine call from someone trying to get in touch so I check the number on Google - as I have done tonight.
