A call from something like GFL market research came up on an emergency dedicated unlisted number which is never revealed. This made me suspicious that it was bona-fide market reseach since they will often target those within known socio-economic groupings and known areas, or within a specified employment etc.

However, it could have been a random number machine which called me on this occasion but one cannot take any chances since I now receive something like 5 to 15 unsolicited calls every week. It has gone beyond a joke and beyond just a nuisance.

In the past such surveys have requested information one would prefer not to answer in any case, and the "fail-safe" condition is now for me to be less than polite and put down the phone.

Got a call @ 7pm just as I was about to have dinner.  Told them this & they asked if anyone else was available to do a survey. Then got another at 10am Saturday morning after finishing nightshift at 4am. Took me a while to answer phone & when I did I got a recorded message saying they'll try again later.

It's Sunday and this number has now called my ex-directory landline four times. Fortunately I already have it programmed in to my phone as 'ignore' but it's still a bloody cheek that they a) have my ex-directory number and b) are ringing on a Sunday. I'm sick to death of companies getting away with constant unwarranted cold calls, particularly to ex-directory numbers. TPS make no difference and are pretty much a joke. Next time it rings I might just answer it and blow a whistle down the phone.

I received a call this morning on my Blackberry and ended the call swiftly.  Having contacted Barclays I discover that although on my file have registered that I DO NOT want such calls they claim this only applied to my land line and saw fit to pass my Name and Cell number to this Third party company GFK - a market research company.  I am appalled that they can do this.  This is why TPS makes no difference.  This issue is with Barclays, who naively insist that they will ask GFK to exclude me from future surveys; but as I tried to explain – now that my number is on their database Barclays have lost control.  I will be taking action against the Bank for this breach.

Got a call from this number this morning (Saturday) at 11.00. Don't know who it was as they hung up before my answer phone message finished. 1471 showed this number. I get loads of these types of calls,so my answerphone is on 24/7. Friends and family know to leave a message and when they do, I pick up! Best advice I can offer!

A lot of the time there is no one at the other end because they use a computer/s to call hundres may be thousands of numbers at the same time, if you answer it logs the time and knows you are in at that time to receive a call.

If you do manage to speak to someone ALWAYS aks your details to be removed from their database and that they are NOT to pass your deatails on to anyone else, as selling contact details is BIG business.

Had a call from this number tonight. Lady stated that she was calling from a research company and wanted to ask me about banking.
I explained that I was on the TPS and that I should not be getting calls from them. I also asked how she got my number.
She replied that they random number call - no bought in lists.
She also said that as they are not selling, the TPS does not apply.
I then declined to answer any questions and the call was politely terminated.

This company, as identified when I called back, GFK NOP, I have caller display AND pay a little extra each month to ONLY receive calls which the caller's number is not withheld. If it IS withheld, then they cannot get through to me - the first line of defence; and yes it still annoys me that I have to pay out of my pocket in order to know what I think should be free for all anyway).
Their website is www.gfknop.com - if anyone's interested. The usual standard spiel of a marketing company; and as has already been said, they don't have to comply with cold calling legislation as they aren't marketing or selling directly. They are commissioned by the government (there you have your racketeer, wolf in sheep's clothing!) forever saying how they are 'protecting the public' with the data protection act etc. Well what a lot of cobblers that is, when data protection goes out of the window as soon as anyone offers to 'buy' information. THEN pretty well anyone can obtain anyone's phone number. Marvellous isn't it: They PRETEND to 'protect' BUT show them some money and suddenly a lot is available. That's hardly protecting anyone, is it? It's just big business looking after itself!
As has also been stated - but that the outcome is NOT as they imagine - you can certainly 'ask' to have your details removed; but I can tell you, they won't. They will STILL call you, even if you ask them not to. This REALLY sucks, doesn't it? Someone actually politely asking these imbeciles NOT to call, and just ignore it. Anyone asking NOT to be called is NOT going to change their mind or 'warm' to them, are they? They won't get any cooperation from someone who doesn't wish to be bothered; but no, they will STILL call you. What about our so-called 'human rights'? Well that doesn't come into it, when it doesn't suit THEM!
Well, I have a new telephone system now - the old one no longer functioning as we'd like - on which you can 'bar' specific numbers. Up to 50 in fact. It'll only work if you have a caller ID compatible handset AND pay your provider to 'reject' incoming calls with number withheld. But the good news is, at least if you have these things, and a suitable phone too, you CAN stop these damned scamsters and nuisance calls.
I hope this helps in some small way.
The other 'company' that calls on behalf of the government, is Kantar Operations. Again, the SAME story as here - but they too have their 2 numbers 'barred' on my phone system. Ha ha, no more from them! What a sorry state of affairs at having to go to all this trouble to stop something you simply don't want and have asked NOT to have.
