Had a phone call this morning about 11.30.  The lady (quite pleasant sounding and polite) said what company she was from (didn't really listen, but not the Met Office or a bank) and that she was doing market research or a survey.  I said I wasn't interested and hung up.

This HAS to be a scam as (judging by the comments here) they pretend to be just about anyone they want.

Asked for my husband by his full name.  Asked where he got our number and he said he was calling from some sort of market research but wasn't at liberty to say!!! Asked him to remove our number from his records as my husband wouldn't be interested in the call...he was very polite but it remains to be seen whether they'll call back!

Got phone call about 7.15pm,2/1/13, said he was doing a survey,(?) did,nt wait for no more put the phone down, 1471 to get No, googled it found this site,i have been getting quite a few of 'unwanted' calls, only answered tonight as i,m exspecting a call....

Please report these pests as i am. The only people who have my number is family and the doctors, so how they have got my number i do not know, but i am pretty sure its illegally. I am supposed to be covered by TPS and my phone provider, so this company is breaking the law!

Got a call from this number about 2030hrs on 8 Feb - no message left despite ansaphone kicking in.

19:30.  Got another call from these fools. As I had been all day, barely 30 mins between them all!

I think it's now time to file a complaint of harassment to the Metropolitan Police in the near future.

And then, once I get a crime number from them, a lawsuit for harassment and misuse of telecommunications under the Telecommunications Act 2003.

This is the Market Research company GFK/NOP.  Unfortunately, their 'phone system is programmed to 'phone repeatedly unless someone answers the 'phone.  There reason (excuse) for this is that you could be out and miss the fantastic opportunity of completing their survey!  You could answer the 'phone and tell them not to 'phone again, but there is a better way.  Go to their website and use the "contact us" facility.  Tell them to remove ALL your details from ALL their data bases.  The ALL is important as different groups do different surveys and you could be 'phoned by a different group.  I have done this with all the Market Research companies who have 'phoned and now never get  calls from legitimate MR companies.  Unfortunately nothing stops the overseas callers doing scam surveys like UK Opinion Polls and Consumer Lifestyle.  If you get calls from either of these just hang up.

Is nobody authorised to DO anything about this??? Why is this violation of our private space allowed to go on? Helloooo... Anybody Out There???

PS For clarity - That last message was ABOUT that caller number - not FROM it. (What sorry lives they lead - can they not just get a life of their own instead of invading everyone else's? Very Needy Behaviour, to say the least...)

You can be the somebody who does something about it.  If you read my post on the previous page, you can act to stop this and any other Market Research call.

I have Caller Line ID, so I answer the phone and say nothing - they  don't like it and soon stop!

I have now been advised, by a relative who is a solicitor, to send them a desist notice via the contact form on their Web page www.gfknop.com , in the format :

"You are hereby requested and required to CEASE AND DESIST from telephoning this number
020 xxxx xxxxx
Each and every call received in future will result in a charge to your company in the sum of FIFTY POUNDS (GBP 50.00)."

Put blanks in any field on the form which you don't want to fill, to ensure their system accepts the form.

this number called left no message it annoys the hell out of me does anyone know who this number belongs to

Called approx 4 x asking for my grandson who no longer lives here about car insurance when I asked which company was inquiring I didn;t get a proper answer they did however quote a reg no. that he hasn't had for a least 4 years

Wow, after 5pm on a Sunday! Ever considered an anger management course?

I am signed up with the telephone preference service for all the good it does. Yet I still get nuisance calls from so called market research companies. I am seriously considering putting an answering machine on the line to screen all incoming calls until I am satisfied that the caller is someone I actually want to talk to.
